Part 1- The First Meeting
Barbara looked around the brillently illuminated halls of the newest edition to the Gotham museum. Just in from Cairo, "the big find of the day", the tomb of a royal princess. She had been the daughter to Thutmose V, and High Priestess to Isis. The coffin hadn't arrived yet, only the treasures that had been buried with her, which in itself was fascinating. She had died at a young age but had left a son, Ma'atathor, to assume her father's throne. There was talk that the child had been that of the Pharoah's second in command and captian of the guard. There was also talk that her death had been murder- by the Royal Vizer, since she alone kept him from obtaining the throne. However, this was all in speculation. The diggers were hoping to learn more. Barbara bit her lip thoughtfully and cocked her head to the side, admiring a lifesize copy of a relief of the Princess with her father. It was a touching scene. The father giving a flower to the girl, who was in her early twenties and was showing signs of being with child. Barbara glanced nonchalantly at her own figure. Dad would kill me if I had an affair, let alone a child from it... I wonder what her father thought... She studied the princess's protrait contently, an odd chill creeping down her spine. She looks so familiar... I wish I could remember where I've seen that face... A sudden commotion caused her to turn to her left. Several armed men came out, clearing a pathway. Then, came the greatest prize of the dig- the intact mummy of Princess RahaMa'at. From her view point, Barbara would get a clear shot at the princess as she was brought to her resting place. The workers brought in the coffin and the crowd went silent. Only the footsteps of the workers could be heard.
"I am proud to present," The Curator announced, "Princess RahaMa'at... Seen for the first time in over three thousand years!"
The Crowd burst into wild cheers, and Barbara stood on her tiptoes. She couldn't wait. The workers slowly began to walk towards the glass case that would be the Princess's new tomb, taking painstakingly small steps, and using the utmost care in dealing with the precious treasure they bore. Barbara leaned over the sholders of the tall, seemingly well built man in front of her and watched anxiously as the mummy approached. This was especially exciting for her since her maternal grandmother had come from Egypt. She had always wanted to go there, but for now this would sufice. It felt like hours before the workers finally reached where she was standing. As the face of the young princess came into view, she sucked in her breath. The wait was dreadfully gutwrenching.
"Beautiful, isn't she?" The man in front of her whispered. His voice was strangely familiar... A touch of Romanian in his tone... And his outfit... Beige pants and a white shirt. Barbara could have sworen she had seen him before. Then she realized that the face was almost in view and she was going to miss her chance. She quickly turned her eyes back to the princess. However, she managed to caught the rest of what he said, though more to himself. "Master will be pleased"
At that moment, the face of the Princess came into view. Barbara's eyes widened and her jaw hung open slightly. The Princess's features looked as if they had been carved into the metal as if it had been done moments before. The years seemingly disappearing between her and the present time. Everything she had heard about this woman was true. She looked young, beautiful... and to Barbara's surprise, the princess bore an eerie resemblence to herself. Soon the princess passed and people began to move about. The man who had been standing in front of Barbara had vanished into the crowd. Barbara felt a slight chill run down her back. Her mother had once told her that her grandmother had descended from Ma'atathor's line... could it be true? The sudden beeping of her watch brought Barbara back to reality. She had to meet her father at his house in fifteen minutes. The princess would have to wait... for now. Barbara cast a swift glance to the direction the men had taken the coffin.
"We'll meet again Princess" Barbara muttered softly. She adjusted the purse on her arm and headed for the door. She was unaware of the stranger watching her.
"Master, I believe I have found her..."
To be continued...
So, what do y'all think? Don't worry, it'll get better.

Barbara screeched into her father's driveway half an hour late, almost rear ending a fine looking Jaguar in her normal spot. Her face went from a lovely peach color to death white in point three seconds. Several moments later her father and another man appeared at the door.
"My car!" He cried out, and quickly scampered down the sidewalk to inspect the damage. Her father put a hand over his eyes and shook his head. Obviously this wasn't a good time to run late. Barbara turned off the ignition and jumped out.
"I'm so sorry- I didn't- I'm so sorry" Barbara grappled with the words, trying to figure out what exactly to say. Her entire body was shaking. The older man, who had just finished the inspection, stood up and smiled.
"S'ok Missy. Not a scratch, very impressive driving indeed! Where'd you learn how to do that?" The man had pleasant brown eyes and a somewhat tattered suit on. His hair was now a a fine mixture of brown and snowy sugar. There were several wrinkles forming on his face, but a kind, almost boyish smile draping across his face. His tone was light hearted and held a soothing accent to it... much like that of a butler she knew. He was slightly taller then she, and had a slender frame, still in pretty good shape considering his age. Barbara opened and closed her mouth several times, still not quite sure what was going on. He chuckled and grinned at her. "What's the matter? Ya look like a seen a ghost!... or maybe it was- a mummy?"
Again the old man laughed, realizing that the car was fine, Barbara joined in. The man's laugh had a delicate, somewhat contagious ring to it. It seemed to fit his personality, a care free entertaining type of fellow. One, that in his younger years must have given any and everyone he knew a run for their money. Figuratively and literally. Jim let out a sigh of relief and joined his daughter and the visitor by the cars. The old man seemed delighted by this.
"Ah Jim, she's a cute one. So this is the niece my sister always bragged about? I can certainly see why. Pity, yer mum never got ta see you grown up..." A sorrowful shadow cast over the man's face, and his gentle smile turned bittersweet. "Yer mum would be proud of ya"
"Thank you-" Barbara blushed at the compliment and then looked up in shock. Niece? What was this guy talking about? ''Excuse me sir, but did you say Niece?"
"That's right Missy! Niece. Didn't know that ya still ha an uncle now, did ye?" A soft chuckle came from the man's throat. Barbara looked at her father questioningly, and he smiled.
"Barbara, remember when I told you that there was someone I wanted you to meet? Well-"
"This is him?" Barbara finished, her voice sweet but puzzled.
"Yes..." Her father seemed a little uncomfortable at the moment. He smiled again and waved his hand to the older gentleman. "Barbara, this is your Uncle Jonathan Carnell"
"Uncle Jon if you please"
"Dad... I thought you said that I didn't have any living relatives?" Barbara smiled and shook 'Uncle Jon's' hand, while at the same time keeping a questioning eye on her father. He shifted uneasily.
"I did"
"Then-"
"Well Barbara dear- I must know, do you have a nick name? Your mother used to go by Evy... Of course, if you want-"
"Evy? Dad! I thought mom's name was Alexas?!" Barbara stared at her father, her dismay now openly present. "Dad?!? Is there something you... I dunno... maybe, FORGOT TO TELL ME?"
"Well it was" Barbara turned to her uncle, her expression clearly asking for an explanation. "Evelyn Alexas Carnell... Mother adored Shakespeare... Especially Anthony and Cleopatra. Maybe 'cuz she herself was 'alf British and Egyptian. After sis moved to America, she changed her name and I lost contact. Spend a bloody good deal of money trying to find her... Finally did. Then... well, yer mum got awful sick and... well, you know well as I do what happened. And that's how yer mum was known as Alexas"
"She- she changed her name? But why?" Barbara felt lost. Several moments before she had know, or at least felt confident about who she was. Now she wasn't so sure. Her father sighed heavily.
"Barbara, there's a lot about your mother's... 'family' you don't know. I tried to protect you from it- but now your old enough to know... But- later... we'll talk later" Jim's voice drifted off, and his eyes became distant. Barbara whined softly. What was going on? Her uncle gently put his arm around her shoulder.
"Um... yes... we'll talk about that later... but right now we got some catchin' up to do... Oh! And I brought you a gift!" Jonathan said, his voice electrified with excitement. "It used to be your mum's!"
"A gift?" Barbara asked, her voice suddenly shy. "For me?"
"Yes! It's inside... Come now, I'll show you.... It's a pretty little thing..." And with that the trio headed back up the steps. Jim stopped at the door a moment and looked out at the sunny sky, a somber expression on his face. He had hoped to protect his little girl, but he couldn't hide her forever. Especially from an Uncle who had adored her. Jim closed the door and watched his daughter and brother in law enter the kitchen. He was sure that Barbara didn't remember her uncle, though they had met several times before, all when she was little. Though somewhat free loading and at times down right annoying, Jonathan always had a good heart and loved his sister dearly. Jim had kept in contact since his wife's death, but after that Jonathan had preferred to stay in England. Perhaps he too feared something would happen to this little girl, whom he adored. Jim could hear the two moving about in the kitchen and Barbara's delighted squeal as Jonathan pulled the package from his bag. She sounded much like when she had been a little girl- every time her mother would bring home a treasure that was undoubtably from her uncle, though unknown to Barbara at the time. A half smile crossed Jim's face. It had been long enough, he decided, and it was time for Barbara to meet her Uncle Jon.

Barbara couldn't help but feel excited. Here she just found out that she had an uncle and he had brought a gift for here... that had belonged to her mother! The fact that she had an uncle and that her family clearly had more secrets really didn't seem to matter... She had always been a little girl when it came to receiving presents. Her Uncle Jon took great care in removing a large object covered in gold wrapping paper. With a knowing grin on his face he handed it to her, and was promptly rewarded with a squeal of delight. Barbara dropped to her knees and carefully unwrapped the package. Her eyes widened and she held her prize up with a great reverence.
It was a beautiful jewelry box... inlaid with solid gold. A beautiful relief was on the oval shaped lid, hieroglyphics covering the sides. It stood on four small legs. The relied showed a picture of the Egyptian god Anubis, along side a giant scarab. It shined like the sun, but she knew it was old, possibly over a hundred years. It sent chills down her spine.
"Well, aren't ya goin' to open it?" Jon was grinning ear to ear. Barbara nodded. She slowly slipped her fingers under the lid and pulled gently. The top opened with a soft pop and rose. Barbara gasped softly.
"Oh, Uncle Jon!... It's... it's beautiful!" She laughed softly and gingerly placed the box on the floor. Then she slipped her fingers around the thin golden chain and lifted it. A large scarab shaped amulet glistened in the light. It was about the size of her palm. It was made of Jade, and seemed to glow. Jon's smile matched the scarab.
"Glad ya like it! Of course, knew ya would!"
"Oh Uncle Jon! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
"Nothing at all my dear! Now, as you can tell, it's very old... It belonged to Seris... High Priest of Anubis, uncle of Princess and High Priestess Rahama'at" Uncle Jon's grin widened. Barbara looked up at him, eyes as large as almonds, breathless. He nodded. "That's right my dear! It's real"
"Oh Uncle Jon..." Barbara whispered reverently. She gingerly placed the scarab back into the box and closed it. "I'll keep near me always! I promise!"
"Good!... now child... there is something I must tell you" Jon became serious, a frown replacing his wily grin. Barbara tipped her head to the side.
"What's that?"
"Barbara dear, you must never EVER lose the amulet. Keep it with you at all times... the thing has a rich history... and- well, I'll tell you later. But promise me it will never leave your side" Jon was looking her straight in the eyes, dead serious. Barbara was silent a moment.
"I promise"
"Splendid!" The boyish, mischievous look reappeared and Barbara smiled warmly. She didn't like to see her uncle unhappy. "Then let's go!"
"Go where?" Barbara shot her father an amused, yet puzzled look. He grinned.
"Well, your dad invited me to the big Halloween bash next Saturday! And we're going to need costumes!" Jon chuckled softly as Barbara's eyes lit up like a pin ball machine. "You up to it?"
"What are we waiting for?! Let's go!" Barbara leapt to her feet and threw her arms around her uncle's neck in a bear hug. He laughed gleefully and spun her around. Her father picked up the keys and the trio was off. Before leaving, Barbara placed the box in a hidden compartment above the fireplace. Then she closed the front door, making sure the lock clicked into place.

And which, pray tell, costume party is Jon alluding too? This is going to be very interesting... I'm surprized, considering the concept the whole Batman idea is based on, that the Halloween theme, or at least costume party idea, hasn't been used more. Can't wait for more!

Barbara turned the key in the lock and laughed at her uncle, who was half drunk and ranting wildly about his adventures in Egypt, all the while using exaggerated gestures. Barbara helped him inside, a little tipsy herself. Jim sighed, a bemused grin in his face, and slipped past the two, flipping on the light. Jon stopped laughing, Jim's eyes widened in shock, and a soft gasp escaped Barbara's lips. Their eyes scanned the room.
"Wha- what happened?" A tiny voice came from Barbara's throat. The entire house looked as if a tornado had ripped through it. Jon's eyes grew large and he looked about frantically.
"Barbara! The Chest! Where did you put it? Where is it?" Jon's face was pale, and a desperate sense of urgency in his voice. Barbara looked around, her mind whirling.
"I- I don't know!"
"You don't know?!"
"I- I put it away before we left! I can't remember!" Barbara sank to her knees and began to sob. Here she had just found out she had an uncle and she had let him down already... not good for a first impression.
"Put it away?... Why, dear, that's brilliant! Then it could still be here!" Jon began to rummage through the scattered debris that was once Jim Gordon's living room. Jim and Barbara looked at each other, then joined him. After twenty minutes a soft knock at the door gained the attention of all present.
"Hey... any one home?" Dick peeked in the door, decked out in beige khakis, a dark brown shirt, covered by his black leather jacket. Barbara looked up and winced. She knew there was something she had forgotten...
"Richard? Is that you?" Jim stood up, looking towards the door.
"Hey Commish... is- so this is where you were hiding" Dick spotted Barbara, cowering behind the overturned couch. She smiled weakly. Jim stepped over several fallen items and greeted their visitor. "Gee Commish, didn't know you threw such great parties, can I come next time?"
"Very funny Dick" Jim smiled at the boy's sense of humor. He shook the young man's hand and inspected him. "My you've certainly grown... Looks like you've done well young man... Babs can't stop talking about you"
"Oh really?" Dick arched an eyebrow and grinned at Barbara, who shrank behind the couch even further. Jim chuckled quietly. "So, what's the excuse?"
"I'm sorry Dick... I got side tracked" Barbara stood and started to climb across the giant hurdle, but slipped. Dick caught her just in time, pulling her close.
"I bet... and what was that?" He asked, leaning closer to her. Barbara giggled and looked away, her cheeks a light pink. Dick's eyebrow went up again, this time in surprise. "Are you... Babs, have you been drinking?"
"Uh..." Barbara turned to face him, eyes wide. A grin tugged at the corners of his mouth. Her face turned a lovely shade of rose. Dick grinned.
"Barbara!"
"Well, I- I can explain!" She stuttered quickly. Dick began to laugh and kissed her soft lips. Jim smiled warmly. Jon peered out from behind an object, keeping hidden.
"That's ok, you don't need to...I just can't see you-" He broke out laughing again.
"No need for what?" Uncle Jon popped his head up. Dick stepped back, surprised by the visitor. Jon looked up at him and grinned. "Oh... hullo there... and who might you be?"
"Funny... I was about to ask the same question" Dick growled defensively. He reached out and pulled Jonathan up by the collar, his eyes flashing menacingly. Jon chuckled uncomfortably and squirmed.
"Oh no one important... Now put me down like a nice chap would you? Please?" Jonathan asked in an uneasy voice, a pleading grin shining on his face. He was scared to death of this young man, who in his humble opinion could tear him to pieces in minutes.
"Now why would I do that?" Dick asked coyly, his grip tightening. Jonathan gulped. He had been in situation's like this before, one's he didn't particularly like.
"It's ok Dick! He's family!" Barbara grabbed onto his shoulder.
"He's what?!?!" Dick eyes widened and he turned to face Barbara, releasing his captive, who hit the floor with a loud grunt. Barbara smiled weakly.
"Bloody good grip there... I'd hate to be the sucker that picks a fight with you" Jonathan said while getting to his feet. Jim snickered at his brother-in-law. He knew that Jon had seen and been in his fair share of fights... In his younger years he never quite knew how to stay out of debt or which women to stay away from or how to stop that nasty habit of chronic lying. Eventually, and thankfully, Jon out grew most of his pesky habits, though he still had an itch for shiny things.
"Dick, this is my uncle, Jonathan Carnell... Uncle Jon, my best friend, Dick Grayson" Barbara nodded to Jon, who extended a warm welcome.
"Hullo there chap, nice to meet ya" Dick shook the man's hand, surprised at the grip. For looking as old as this guy did, the grip was still strong.
"Oh, hi... sorry... I-"
"It's all right... just protectin' my niece. I admire that"
"Thank you sir"
"So Dick... what are you doing here?" Jim joined the small crowd.
"Well, Babs- Barbara and I were going to see a movie... but she got side tracked. So I decided to stop by and see if she was here"
"I'm sorry Dick, it slipped my mind with Uncle Jon being here and all... I promise I'll make it up to you" Barbara sighed. Of all the things to forget... Dick smiled at her, a small flicker of light in the night sky catching his eye.
"Well, l gotta go. I work the late shift tonight. I'll call you when I get back or so, okay?" Dick slipped his hand under Barbara's chin and raise it. She smiled and nodded. "Oh, and by the way... these are for you"
"Oh Dick! There're beautiful!" A dozen red roses materialized out of nowhere. He smiled and handed them to Barbara, who leaned forward and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. He blushed.
"No problem... I'll see you later" Dick stumbled around the fallen furniture to the door. Jim and Jon chuckled softly. "Bye Commish! Nice meeting you Jon"
"Yes, nice meeting you!" Jon smiled adoringly at his niece, who was inhaling the gentle scent of her flowers. "Nice chap... I want to attend the wedding"
"Oh Uncle Jon!"
"I'll let you know, don't worry Jon" Jim countered smartly.
"Daaad" Barbara shook her head and sighed. Then she let out a loud cry and threw the roses in the air, heading for the fireplace. Jon looked at her oddly.
"Aw, those pretty roses! And after all you put that chap through too!" Jon shook his head, then looked at Jim, with a puzzled expression. "Now what do you suppose got into her?"
"I don't-" Jim sighed and shook his head.
"HERE! It's here!" Barbara pulled the golden box from the hidden compartment. Jon leapt to his feet, dashing toward the girl. Jim following closely.
"Excellent work child!" Jon patted the jubilant girl on the back and took the box from her trembling hands. "Jim, close the door"
"What is it Uncle Jon?" Barbara looked at her uncle with wide eyes. The door slide shut with a soft click. Jon opened the box and removed the amulet, holding it to the light, causing it to shine.
"Well, let me put it this way... An ancient proverb of Egypt says that a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step... This Barbara dear, is the first step..."

Excellant!!!
I could hardly stop giggling throughout the whole thing. I can so picture Dick ready to beat up Uncle Jon. (He's so sweet in a knight in shining armour type way!) I think you might be the first writer ever in comic book, cartoon, movie, and fanfiction history to make Babs (slightly) drunk. Congratulations. Superheroes are usually such teatottlers, this was a nice comic relief.
I wonder who trashed the house, I wonder what's the deal with the amulet - I wonder when your going to post again!

"You see my dear, this amulet was a gift from Seris to RahaMa'at. After her death, he took it from her neck and hide it away. Seris was captured and tortured by the treacherous Ra'Amon. He almost died protecting this... but his death was interrupted by the Pharaoh himself. From that day on, the amulet was passed down through the generations through the Princess's line and ended with your mother. It is now your turn to protect it" Jon explained quietly.
"Protect it from what?" Barbara asked, not comprehending what was wrong.
"Child, this amulet is a key... it opens only one thing..."
"What's that Uncle Jon?" Barbara asked softly, eyes wide with curiosity. Jon took a deep breath and paused a moment before answering, as if debating what to say.
"Child, this amulet is the key to the Book of the Dead" The room filled with a deafening silence. Barbara caught her breath.
"The- the-" Barbara shook her head and looked away. "Oh Uncle Jon... it's just a myth..." The young woman looked disappointed. "The Book of the Dead doesn't really exist, it's just a legend..."
"Yea... and so is Batman" Again the room was silent. Barbara glanced at her uncle and sighed heavily. If he only knew...
"Ok, so what if it does exist? What's it got to do with me?"
"The book can never be opened, it contains great powers. If it fell into the wrong hands... it could be disastrous. Please Barbara-"
"So if the book's so important, why don't I just protect the book?" Barbara eyed her uncle curiously. Nothing seemed to make sense at the moment... of course, when one has a little alcohol, nothing does. Jon sighed and shook his head.
"Because the book has been hidden!"
"If the book's hidden, why do we have to protect the key?" Now Barbara was thoroughly confused. Jon threw his hands in the air and moaned.
"Because the book was buried with the Princess! That's why!" The poor old man was at wit's end. He knew that he never should have brought his darling- not to mention only- niece into it. He decided to give up on explaining the unexplainable. "Oh nevermind... You'll know soon enough... well, look at the time. It's terribly late and I'm beat! See you in the morning"
"Good night Uncle Jon" Barbara said quietly. She was thinking that trying to decipher the mystery of the sphinx would be easier then trying to figure this out.
"Good night Jon... Remember your appointment tomorrow" Jim smiled at his brother in law. The old man was used to life in the fast lane and knew a great deal about Egyptian artifacts. The Curator of Gotham Public Museum had asked for help unloading and naming the treasures. Jon had readily agreed.
"Night Jim" Jon disappeared up the stairs. Barbara and Jim sat for a few moments in the wreck quietly, trying to pick up some of the debris. A soft, persistent beep sounded. Barbara looked at him, an amused grin on her face.
"Dad you're being paged" She giggled softly. Her father shook his head.
"I know... That means I have to go in"
"It's ok, we'll finish this in the morning... I'm kinda tired myself" Barbara yawned.
"You don't want to come with? You never know who you might see" Jim teased with a grin. Barbara smiled and stretched out.
"Not tonight... I'm exhausted" Barbara got up and started towards the stairs. Jim grabbed his keys and headed out the door.
"See you in the morning Barbara"
"See ya" Barbara watched the door close and turned to the top of the stairs. She paused a moment and then whirled around. "Almost forgot... We don't want anything to happen to you now do we?"
Barbara picked up the small chest containing the precious amulet. She placed the chest into the hidden compartment- but with one difference this time. In case their 'visitors' decided to return, she slipped the amulet into her pocket. After making sure everything was secure, Barbara trotted upstairs and changed. She slipped the amulet's chain between her fingers, thinking of all the places it could be hidden. A large yawn distracted her and sleep clouded her mind and she slipped it between the mattresses. Then Barbara slide under the covers and closed her eyes. She felt herself relaxing, her body becoming lighter and lighter until it was leisurely drifting down the river of sleep. A smile crossed the woman's face and she snuggled against her pillow. A warm breeze slipped through the room, and the sound of a lazy river passing by lighted on the air to her ears. Barbara frowned. A river? There weren't any rivers near...
The young woman sat up and found herself sitting on a stone bench that looked like a hippo, on a moderately high balcony. Barbara stood abruptly, her eyes wide. She scanned her surrounding and discovered that she had no idea where she was- or even what time she was. The young woman spun around- her eyes beholding a grand Egyptian palace. It was everything she had ever dreamed and much much more. Colorful relief's depicted scenes of a beautiful princess, accompanied by two women. The goddesses Isis and Hathor... Barbara momentarily wondered how she knew this, since it had been years since she had taken the half semester course on Egypt. She shrugged and turned to the river. Maybe she had a good memory... The river flowed with life. Children played along the banks, women were drawing water to bring home, and men were drawing nets full of fish into their boats. It was the life of the common folk that had always fascinated her. The woman sighed, envying those who could walk about and do as they pleased. The young woman frowned slightly. It must be a grand pleasure to be free... To not be held back by the 'responsibility of being a princess' or 'the duties as the heir to the throne.' The scenes of domestic life would keep her entertained for hours. Barbara looked up a moment. What was she thinking? The sound of a person entering the room caught the woman's attention. For some odd reason, Barbara felt a strange thrill run through her. She turned to see a handsome, well built young man coming towards her.
She grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. The man was tall, his long black hair tied back neatly. His bare chest glistening in the sun. He wore the typical royal dress, a white lion cloth wrapped around his waist to just above his knees, a golden belt fastened above it. Brightly colored sandals adored his feet, and thick plates of gold circled his neck. He had a light tan and an amazing smile. He remotely resembled... The young woman blinked. What was that man's name again? Barbara shook her head. Of course, it was Dick. That's who this man reminded her of. Barbara wondered what was happening to her. First she started to think weird things and now she had forgotten her best friend's name. The young woman realized with horror that she didn't know the man that was rapidly approaching her... yet... she did. Barbara looked down and her jaw dropped slightly. Long black hair flowed over her shoulders. Blue linen crisscrossed over her chest, covering all that needed to be covered. A thin gold belt held another cloth that slipped down her attractive figure to her ankles. She wore two gold manacles on her wrists, a massive golden necklace, two ankle bracelets and variety of precious stone rings. She looked down at her reflection, surprised to see that her shining blue eyes were now a dark, earthy brown, her soft peach now a lovely shade of pale chestnut. Barbara sucked in her breath, terrified and mystified by what was happening. An odd feeling of familiarity began to wash over her and slowly Barbara gave into it...
The young woman smiled at her reflection, the river splashing softly, as if pleased by her delight. The footsteps of the handsome young man grew closer and a shiver of excitement ran down her spine. Several moments passed, then his reflection appeared beside hers. For a few minutes they silently watched the river, then he turned to face her, a sly grin on his face. She ignored him for a moment more, before turning to face him. Their eyes met and the young woman felt her heart begin to pound wildly. The young man gently caressed her face. She moved closer to him, until she could feel the warm rays of the sun radiating off his skin. She slipped one arm around him and joined his free hand with hers. Finally the silence was broken.
"Princess" He spoke softly, his voice holding great reverence. Although the modern woman had never spoken this strange tongue, it came to her plain as day. The memories of who she was and what he meant streamed into her mind, like the Nile flooding it's banks.
"Captain" She cooed softly, her voice sharing the same respect. The young man leaned down and kissed her soft lips, cupping her chin his palm. She wrapped her arms around him, the two embracing in a passionate kiss... until the sound of distant footsteps drifted through the halls. The two pulled back instantly and spun towards the door. It opened seconds later, revealing a middle aged man. He was dressed like the Captain, except he was bald and wore a black cloth over his head. It was held in place by a solid gold band, with the torso of a human with a jackal's head- a symbol of the god Anubis. The Princess let out a slow breath and smiled... relieved that it hadn't been her father. She started towards the newcomer, arms wide open.
"Uncle Seris! It's so nice to see you" The older man frowned. The two stopped, a couple of feet between them. The Princess looked at him curiously. "Why uncle, what seems to be the matter?"
"RahaMa'at" The older man said sternly. "You know what's the matter" The smile faded from the woman's face, replaced by a grim look. The Captain shifted uncomfortably from his spot on the balcony. "He should not be here"
"Uncle-"
"Don't uncle me RahaMa'at! Your father may not see what is going on but I do! And I will not allow it!" The Captain started towards the two, stopping beside the lovely Princess.
"Allow what Seris?" The Captain snapped irritably. Seris glowered angrily.
"I know that you've spent more then one night in my niece's quarters. Do you think I'm going to let you treat her like a-"
"SILENCE!" RahaMa'at ran her hand across the face of the elder gentleman, the sound of a sharp whip cracking ringing in their ears. Seris closed his eyes, trying to control his anger. "I will not have you slandering my name!"
"You have slandered your own name!" Seris turned and threw open the door. The Princess grabbed his arm, her eyes wide with panic.
"Seris please wait! My temper..." RahaMa'at pleaded softly, a weak smile on her face. Seris scowled and pulled away from her in disgust.
"I will not tell your father- it is not for me to tell. But I give you both a warning. Do not think that because you are at the Pharaoh's right hand you will escape punishment if you are found out. Justice is always served on the scales of Ma'at" Seris turned his back on the pair and began down the hall. The Princess looked down.
"Uncle" The Princess's voice was soft and gentle, sounding like she did when she was a child. Seris stopped and sighed heavily, shaking his head. When she sounded like that he could never stay angry with her. He kept his back to her.
"Yes child?"
"I'm sorry"
"I know" He turned, seeing the young woman's face full of guilt and repentance. "I still love you child. I always will"
"Thank you Uncle" The Princess wrapped her arms around the man's neck lovingly. He chuckled softly with delight.
"I must go. An old General has died, he must be prepared for the after life. Your father will soon hold a great feast to appoint another to his rank... until then, I must attend my duties. I will see you later niece" Seris turned and proceeded down the hall. The Princess and her lover watched him leave. Then she turned to him, her face solemn.
"It's not safe for us to be seen like this Rahorus"
"Nothing can keep me from you Princess"
"But if my father-"
"Your father trusts me. He knows that my loyalty lies only with him. I would rather die then betray my lord" Rahorus slipped his hand under her chin. "I love you"
"And I you" RahaMa'at looked up into his deep, earthy eyes and sighed heavily, a look of fear on her normally calm features. "But our love will be seen as treason"
"Not if I ask for it..." Rahorus grinned mischievously. "Tonight, there will be a great feast to honor Isis. After your father makes his speech, I will stand and as always, comment on our Pharaoh's wise and benevolent rule. Then, I will ask for your hand... He will not refuse"
"Of course!" Light once again shone in the dark eyes of the Princess and she clapped her hands with delight. "He will finally have a male heir to the throne! And we can be together! It's an excellent plan!"
"I will not fail you Princess" He leaned in close and their lips met. They pulled back and looked into her eyes, his face serious. He spoke softly. "Not even the gods can keep us apart"
"RAHORUS!" The lovers turned, startled by the sound of distant steps. The Princess's face turned white. "RAHORUS!"
"Father!" She turned to the Captain, who was slowly moving backwards. "Leave! Hurry! He will give you what you ask but not if he sees us together!"
"Until tonight my love" Rahorus muttered softly. Then he disappeared into the shadows. The Princess nodded and raised her hand slightly.
"Until tonight"
"RAHORUS!" The voice was closer now, and the Princess decided to act. She slipped into the long, elaborate corridor and went to meet her father. She slinked up behind him and smiled. "RAHORUS!"
"Father, what on earth are you making all that noise for? Your bound to wake the dead!" The Pharaoh jumped and spun around. The Princess giggled and hugged her father warmly. "Hello Father"
"Hello my daughter" The Pharaoh chuckled softly. "It is good to see you"
"Thank you father... who are you looking for?"
"My esteemed Captain of the Guard, Rahorus. You've met have you not?" The Pharaoh pulled back and looked at his daughter curiously. She almost blushed at his question.
"Yes father, I know him well"
"Good, good" RahaMa'at tilted her head to the side slightly. He almost seemed pleased... "Come, we have many matters to talk of before the Feast of Isis"
The father and daughter walked down the corridors, deep in conversation. As they disappeared, a tall, dark figure stepped out from the shadows, accompanied by a slender young female, several years older then the Princess. His eyes were dark had a storm was raging in them. The female looked up at him curiously.
"Father, he must never have the Princess as his bride, it will destroy all you've worked for!" Her voice was as cool as a serpent's, but as sweet as honey... and it was filled with concern.
"He will not... there is no reason to worry daughter" A dark smile crossed the man's lips. "I have already taken care of it... Tonight a new High Priestess of Isis will be appointed... I would hate to see the Pharaoh's daughter turn it down"
"I agree"
"And soon, Egypt will have a new Queen" The man turned and smiled at the young woman, she nodded in understanding. Then two began to laugh and turned down the opposite way. The Visor and his daughter were second only to the Captain and the Princess... but soon that would change.... BBBBRRRRRIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGG!
"AH!" Barbara shot up in bed, her heart racing. She shook her head to clear the fog inside it. What was going on with her? "Man, that was a weird dream"
"Barbara dear! You're going to be late for work!" A thickly accented voice floated up the stairs into her ears. Barbara glanced at her watch and yelped. Twenty-five minutes to shower, dress and still make it to work on time.
"No problem..." Barbara threw the covers off and sprinted for her dresser. She hollered down the stairs. "THANKS UNCLE JON!" She pulled out a pair of black khakis and a gray, long sleeved shirt, then stumbled out the door towards the bathroom. She shook her head. "That's the last time I ever get drunk..."

You astound me Batgirl! You're developing a very creative plot. I think I have an idea of who is after the amulet now.:) I definitely wasn't prepared for that flashback, expecially with Dick in that role. It's all starting to fit together very nicely now. So, basically past-life Babs was knocked up by past-life Dick:p...oooh, this is so intriguing!:D Hehe, write on!!

Barbara sighed heavily and joyfully clicked the shut down button. It had been a long day of deleting old files and typing in new ones. She had heard from Rene that Batman was talking to her father, but at the moment she was too tired to care. It was finally time to go home.
"Hey Rene, I'll see you tomorrow. Tell dad I'll stop by a little later kay?"
"Got it... Bullock, Commish wants us to take a ride to the museum... seems like they had some trouble last night... Man, every time Gotham gets a new exhibit thugs try to take it..." Rene and Bullock grabbed their coats and disappeared. Rene stopped a moment, as an afterthought came into her head. "Oh, Barbara? Honey, your uncle called. He said he'd be working later tonight"
"Late? Work? Whatever... That's Rene" Barbara chimed sweetly. She bit her lip and frowned. She would probably be needed tonight, might as well be ready. She took the stairs to the parking lot and grabbed her duffle bag that held her "night" attire. She figured that she'd get an early start...
* * *
A dark shadow slide over the exhibits at the museum. The halls were dark and deserted... save that of the new attraction. There a lone figure stood. She ran her hands over the coffin of the deceased princess and sighed. What could this woman have been had she finished her life? A Queen? A Pharaoh? The figure shook it's head. So many thoughts... The half moon shed it's light over several other treasures, touching everything but a large, block like item in a glass case. Though the night was still, the young woman felt a breeze pass by her... beckoning her to the case. The woman followed the subtle urge, almost in a trance like state, and the dreams began to flood back, like memories from another lifetime, but this time, she was awake. In seconds the visions had engulfed her consciousness and she was the Princess once more...
The halls were decked with dazzling fabrics. Colors of all shades and tints accented the carved walls that told of her linage and all the great deeds her father had done. Torch flames danced along the walls, guiding her to the room where the Feast of Isis was taking place. She could hear laughter and other sounds of merriment. A half smile crossed the woman's face as she heard his voice.
"Your daughter is like the Nile, great and wise Pharaoh- Lovely, strong and life giving... She will one day make a great Queen"
"If that is what is ordained Rahorus, then it shall be so" The Pharaoh had a troubled look on his face. The Captain grew solemn.
"What is it sir?"
"Tonight I shall appoint a new High Priestess..."
"Yes, and whom ever you choose will take that role with honor" The Captain replied with a smile. "So what troubles you so?"
"I will take a new wife tonight and give one to you also" The Captain's jaw dropped. It wasn't possible... was it? Could it really be that easy?
"That is wonderful news-"
"I have not told my daughter" The Pharaoh looked towards the corridor where his dearly beloved daughter would soon come. His eyes were full of concern. "I hope she does not feel... angry"
"I'm sure your daughter will be pleased with your ruling sir"
"Thank you Rahorus"
"With great esteem," Seris stood and turned to the hall. "I announce the arrival of our Princess, RahaMa'at!"
The woman entered and the hall filled with applause. She smiled and nodded to her uncle, who took his seat. The Princess glided to her seat and smiled at her father. The visor and his daughter were seated next to the Captain, whose eyes were locked on her. RahaMa'at gave him a sensual grin. The visor's daughter made a face. Her father stood, ready to hand down the honor of a High Priestess to someone. The Pharaoh rose to his feet.
"Tonight a great honor shall be bestowed upon a young lady of the court..." The Captain smiled at RahaMa'at, who gazed back. "Captain, please stand," Rahorus stood. "But first, I shall gladly announce that tonight, in the presence of Isis, the great and loving mother goddess- I, Pharaoh, ruler of the two lands, join together" RahaMa'at sucked in her breath sharply, this was it- "My ever loyal Captain of the Guard, Rahoru, and..." A smile crossed the face of the Pharaoh. "The daughter of my trusted Visor, Anukselket-"
A look of shock crossed the face of Princess RahaMa'at and the Captain, who quickly recovered. The vizier's daughter smiled sly and slide next to the Captain. The dining hall, filled with the officials of Pharaoh's court, rang with applause. The Pharaoh continued.
"And tonight, Pharaoh appoints a new Queen of the two Lands," RahaMa'at turned to her father in horror. The lady seated several seats down looked at him and grinned. "Basamut, come to my side" The lady rose and obeyed the command of her ruler. RahaMa'at felt her blood began to rise, this wasn't supposed to happen... Her trainer with the Captain, a new queen... Tears began to form and the princess clenched her fits in anger. Seris spied his niece's feelings and signaled for her to wait. Surely the Pharaoh had made a mistake... "Lastly, with great pride and joy, I announce the greatest honor that can be given to a lady of the court. A lady to serve Isis can ask for no more. She is honored with the respect of all Egypt, with the love of the gods, and rewarded with the riches of this world and the next. There is no one that I see more fit to appoint to the position of High Priestess of Isis then my beloved daughter, RahaMa'at"
Again the hall rang with applause. The Princess stood on cue, her face in complete and total shock. She couldn't believe what had just happened. She had lost her lover, gained an unwanted mother and been doomed to a life of service all by the one person she loved much. RahaMa'at took a deep breath and sucked it in. She forced a smile on her face and nodded, thanking her father for the honor...
Barbara shook her head and stopped, trying to clear her head of what just happened. She looked down at her suit, the bat shining brightly in the night. She groaned softly and ut her hand on her forehead. What was happening to her? She looked around, unsure of how she had walked around several displays into a dark corner. A dark image slowly came to focus before her eyes...
"Uncle! Where are you taking me?"
"You'll see... Ok, stop. Now- open your eyes" Seris stepped aside and the Princess obeyed. A large image was hidden under a highly decorated piece of cloth. The Princess eye her uncle with a half grin.
"What is it Uncle?" Her voice was sweet and curious. Her uncle let smiled.
"You have become the High Priestess to Isis... You now must bear a heavy burden. It is the duty of your line to protect what my line keeps secret... The thing this cloth covers has powers beyond the imagination child. It is said that who ever uses this may bring life to those who have departed, so long as there is a host or the body is not corrupted by time... The gift I give to you is for a prize that is only known of in legend! And this child," Seris slide a a jade scarab necklace around the young woman's neck. It was the size of her palm. "This is the key... The gift that is worth more then all earthly treasures. You alone hold the key to immortality and eternal rule of Egypt! This-" Signaling to the covered object. "Will only open with what now hangs around your neck... Protect it with your life!"
"Uncle Seris, it's beautiful!... But what could make this so important?" The princess ran her delicate fingers over the jewel, her voice filled with curiosity. Seris now grabbed onto the cloth and her eyes locked onto the hidden object.
"This!" Seris pulled back the cloth, revealing a large, black shape beneath it. The Princess gasped softly, her eyes as large as almonds.
"It's-"
"-The Book of the Dead!" Barbara's voice rang through the chamber, echoing off the empty walls. She gingerly reached out and touched the case, a thrill running through her as she did. A soft gasp escaped her lips. "I don't believe it!"
"Amazing isn't it?" A soft British accent came from behind. Batgirl whirled around, ready to deck the intruder. The visitor jumped back, hands held up in surrender. "Hey, easy there girl! I don't mean any harm!"
"Uncle Jon?" Barbara's eyes widened. The shock of seeing him there had completely caught her off guard. The man looked the girl over a minute, realization dawning on him.
"Barbara?... I don't believe it!"
"You! What about this- This thing! This- this book! It really does exist!" Barbara pointed at the treasure the case held. Jon nodded gravely.
"I told you that it did"
"But- but-"
"What on earth are you doing here?" Jon looked at his niece curiously. She blushed deeply and looked around. Now she had a bigger problem... how could she explain all this to her uncle?
"I- I- I came here to make sure there wouldn't be any trouble tonight... Uncle Jon?"
"Yes child?"
"You're not gonna-"
"Of course not. It is not my place to tell him"
"Thank you Uncle Jon" Batgirl smiled and hugged her uncle warmly. Footsteps sounded far off down the empty halls. Two of Gotham's finest had arrived. Jon turned to her, his face solemn.
"I believe that you now know all that you need about my gift... you'd better go, I'm supposed to be alone"
"It's ok Uncle Jon, they know me"
"You look tired... please dear-" Voices were heard, but not that of her friends... They were completely foreign. "Please go..."
"But Uncle Jon-"
"GO!" The two stared at each other a few moments. There was a certain desperation in the old man's eyes that moved her. Barbara sighed heavily.
"Ok... I'll go... but please Uncle Jon- be careful!" The dark damsel sent up a jump line and disappeared into the night. Uncle Jon sighed heavily and turned. He wasn't sure how much longer he could protect her.
* * *
Barbara pulled the covers up to her shoulders and snuggled up against her warm mattress. She sighed heavily and closed her eyes, a happy grin on her face. She had just about dozed off when her phone rang. She groggily opened one eye and growled softly.
"Who ever is calling better have a good reason... Hello?" She chimed as sweetly as she could as she picked up the phone. Her sweetness was heavily masked by the tell tale sign of exhaustion.
"Hey there Sleepy... hope I didn't wake you" The voice on the other end replied. Barbara couldn't resist a girlish grin. She turned onto her back casually.
"I should have known it was you. No one else calls me at twelve midnight" Barbara cooed softly. The person on the other end chuckled. "What do you want?"
"Just got off my 'shift' and thought I'd say good night"
"Well that was sweet of you" Barbara giggled and bit her lip thoughtfully.
"Yea well... Good night"
"Good night Dick"
"You going to the big bash tomorrow night?"
"Yes" Barbara said, desperately trying to cover her delight.
"Cool. See ya then"
"Yea, see you then"
"Night Babs"
"Good night Dick" Barbara shook her head and hung up the phone. She smiled lazily and giggled, turning onto her stomach. He could be so cute sometimes...

A blue cadillac pulled up to the Iceberg Lounge. Two large figures got out, followed by a smaller one. Inside the lights were low and strobes flashed brightly in several different colors. The younger of the two looked to the older.
"Of all the ideas you've ever had, this has got to be the stupidest!"
"Hey, you went along with it, don't blame me"
"Ha, ha. very funny... let's go. The sooner we go in the sooner we can leave" The young man proceeded into the building, followed by the boy. The older man turned to the car.
"Oh, Alfred. Park the car and come in. We shouldn't be needed tonight"
"Very good sir. I will see you shortly"
* * *
"Excited dear?" A soft accented voice asked over the hum of the engine.
"That's an understatement Uncle Jon," the woman replied with a nervous giggle.
"I'm sure of that," the old man chuckled softly. The car turned the corner and stopped in front of the famous club. "Well now, here we are... Are you ready?"
* * *
Three of the most respected police officers in the force were waiting impatiently inside. The crowd was going to be big this year and some of Gotham's most famous- and infamous- citizens were supposed to attend. As it was the club's owner had come from a questionable background, having quite a record. Jim Gordon was far from nervous about the night's event and at that time of year... He shuddered and couldn't wait for the night to end.
* * *
A young blond woman with wide blue eyes and a large smile looked up at the sign welcoming all the visitors to the annual Halloween Bash. She giggled.
"Ain't it pretty?"
"Yea, yea, let's go... We don't want any one to get suspicious do we? The place is already crawling with cops and I for one don't want HIM to show up... know what I mean Harl?" The girl's guest said with a smile.
The girl giggled. "Right..."
* * *
"I don't know why I even bothered to show up... nothing eventful will happen and I hate social events." A lovely young woman with dark hair and piercing green eyes strolled into the club. The small, round host greeted her.
"I'm sure you'll find some entertainment Ms. Kyle"
"I certainly hope so!"
* * *
A dark car pulled up to the curb and a tall man emerged. He turned and extended his hand to the open door. A slim, lovely dark haired woman slipped out. She looked at the man and sighed with disgust.
"Why do WE have to attend?"
"Because my dear, if you want a job done right, you have to do it yourself... Besides, it lets us mingle with the locals without running into any- shall we say pest control problems?" The man smiled broadly. The woman pouted.
"Father-"
"Patience my child- patience. We won't spend much time here. There's something that I want, and this will be a golden opportunity to get it"
"How do you know if it will even be here?" The woman asked impatiently. A dark smile crossed the man's face and a large, muscular figure emerged from the still open door. He shut it and looked at his master.
"I just know..." The tall man turned and evaluated the current situation, as if debating what to do next. He nodded and turned back to his companions. "It looks as if the party has begun. Shall we go in?"

Hopefully it won't be THAT long, but I'll post it say, in two weeks or sooner. :looks around nervously: Ok, maybe one week? I know, I should really post more often but time and the duration of the party is what's keeping me back. I have 8 and 9 finished. So it should go smoothly after this. Sorry it's so long. I'm also writing another story at this time... it's almost done too. Any way, it'll be soon. I promise. If it's going to be a 'wicked' party scene, then i want to make it perfect. All eyes fell onto the playboy millionaire and his sons as they entered. A soft gasp of surprise ran though the crowd and people began to mutter quietly. Jim nearly dropped his glass of punch from the shock. Dick turned to Bruce and smiled. Tim began to laugh... which was characteristic of his costume.
"Brucie? Is that you?" Veronica Veeland squealed loudly. "You look so- so daring!" Ronnie's eyes fell on his younger companion. "And Dickie!"
"Please don't call me that" Dick whined softly, giving her a weak smile, trying to be polite. Bruce gave him a hard elbow to the ribs and a sharp glance.
"You look so handsome! I almost didn't recognize you in that mask! I'm sure that all the ladies will be absolutely swooning tonight! And Tim..." Bruce's elite friend grimaced as her eyes landed on the boy. He grinned widely. "You looks so... so... well, it's nice to see you"
"Thanks Ronnie"
"Tim" Bruce said sternly, giving his son the look.
"I mean, thank you Ms. Veeland"
"Your-" Ronnie's mouth hit the floor and another murmur ran through the crowd. Her companions turned to see what was causing the commotion. Dick caught his breath. A beautiful young woman was standing at the top of the main stair way. Long black hair flowed over her bare shoulders, and gold glistened in the dim light.
She wore a headdress of a bird with it's wings draping down the long locks of coal black hair. A fairly thin chain of gold held a palm sized scarab of Jade that seemed to emit a hypnotic green glow. Large golden hops hung from her ears, and arm bands with signs of a language long forgotten by man. Rings with stones of various shapes and sized adorn her fingers. On her feet were highly decoded cloth sandals, complimented by the golden bands that were fastened about her ankles. The golden bracelets on her arm made a pleasant clinking sound as she came down the stairs. The woman possessed a proud posture and a regal air. Her blue eyes darted across the audience as she reached the bottom, hoping to see a friendly face, and Dick suddenly realized who it was.
"Barbara?!" The young woman turned and smiled at him, then moved his way. She moved with confidence and ease, with the grace of a princess. She stopped before the young man and giggled softly.
"Pardon me-" She said in a soft, alluring voice. Dick chuckled softly and smiled, his eyes dancing. "But have we met?"
"Of course" Dick replied gently, pulling a hand under her chin. "Some time ago... Is it possible that you've grown more beautiful since our last meet?"
"My, my, aren't we a little friendly tonight? I thought you were interested in Catwoman... Batman" Barbara quipped back. Dick stepped closer, putting his arms around her waist, his eyes dancing with mischief.
"Who?" He asked quietly. Barbara began to laugh light heartedly, her blue eyes shining wit delight, enhanced by the black paint on her eyes mimicking the Ancient Egyptian style. Her snow white teeth of her smile brought out her dark rose hue of her lips. Dick stared at her, speechless, his breathing picking up slightly.
"A little quiet tonight Richard?" Barbara cooed softly, placing her hand against his face. A chill ran down her back and the princess stared deeply into the Captain's eyes. She missed him so much... Dick was able to suppress the strong feelings that were suddenly coursing through his veins, lighting his body on fire. Tim looked between the two a moment, catching the change in his friend's behavior, and made a face.
"Oh please!"
"It's nice to see you too Timmy" Barbara gently ruffled the boys dark green hair and shook her head, an amused grin on her face. Things shifted back to normal, the moment broken. "I don't believe he let you come looking like that!"
"Hey, if he wants to look like a freak, let him" Dick said with a slight snicker. Barbara raised an eyebrow at him, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
"He's not the only one..."
"Hey!" Dick gave her a good natured scowl, causing her to laugh. Tim stuck out his tongue at the young man. Bruce snickered softly. Veronica smiled at Barbara.
"Oh Barbara, you look so beautiful!"
"Thanks Ronnie" Barbara smiled politely. She glanced over her left shoulder, spying Uncle Jon talking to Rene. Rene was giggling and shaking her head. Bullock gave a grunt of disgust and turned to her father, who was watching her and Dick very closely. She smiled at him, turning to her friend, sliding close to him. "So... does Batman have time for a dance, I know he can be terribly busy"
"For you Princess, anything" The Captain smiled and took her hand... Barbara looked down and put a hand to her head. She looked up and smiled slightly, wondering what had just happened. Dick smiled back at her, a slight questioning look in his eyes. "Let's go"
"I'll see you two later" Barbara called to Bruce and Tim as Dick lead her towards the dance floor. Ronnie giggled and chatted on and on about small talk. Tim quickly lost interest and spied the Commissioner and grinned. He decided to have a little fun... Bullock and Jim were dressed in two finely crafted tuxedos and were shooting the breeze. Tim hunched down and proceeded with incredible stealth towards the pair.
He stopped directly behind the Commissioner, and took a deep breath. Then he left out the creepiest laugh he could, almost a perfect match with his costume. Jim practically hit the roof.
"What the devil?!?!-" He spun around and grabbed the boy, who was now in hysterics, by the collar. Tim yelped loudly as Jim pulled the boy close to his face, which didn't exactly look the happiest. Tim smiled weakly.
"Hi Commish"
"What do you think you're trying to pull? Just who do you think you are any way?"
Jim asked angrily. Tim whimpered softly.
"Tim Drake sir" Tim said weakly, his face paler then the make-up he wore.
"Tim Drake? Steven's boy?" Jim's expression went from anger to shock. "I thought that he was-"
"He is" Tim said quietly, his expression suddenly grim. "I live with Bruce Wayne"
"Oh... I'm sorry..." Jim put down the boy.
"It's ok... you didn't recognize me" Tim turned and started to slink away.
"Tim?" The boy turned and Jim signaled him to come back. The two took a seat and Jim took a slow breath. "I'm sorry I got so angry..."
"It's ok, I understand"
"It's just... There's going to be enough trouble as it is. Please don't' create more"
"Yes, sir" Tim said quietly. The two watched the dance floor. His eyes locked on Barbara and Dick. Jim followed the boy's gaze and smiled.
"I notice them too" Tim looked up at the old man with an expression of surprise. Jim patted the boy's head. "It's alright Tim, they'll pay attention to you again... They just want to spend some time together"
"I know sir... I just miss them" Tim said quietly, his blue eyes shining with an odd kind of melancholy. He liked seeing the two together, but he hated to be let out.
"So do I my boy, so do I" Jim's eyes began to tear as they focused on the woman who Dick held. His smile was bittersweet. "But I think that they're happy"
"Yea. Me too" Tim smiled at the old man, who returned it. A beautiful woman watched the pair from the shadows. She was rather bored and figured she might as well be social- something she absolutely hated. She carefully approached the two.
"Well, what do we have here? If it isn't Commissioner Gordon"
"Hello... Batgirl?" Tim spun around, staring at the woman. He suddenly felt odd seeing another woman in Barbara's costume, especially since she had green eyes. She smiled at him and the older man. Jim stood and extended his hand to her with a chuckle. She shook his hand. He knew exactly who it was.
"It looks like I came just in time- there's a trouble maker here" She leaned down, making eye contact with the boy. He felt incredibly shy and found himself looking around Jim, like a child hiding behind his father. 'Batgirl' giggled and straightened up. "Looks like I better take care of this"
"It's ok Tim... Go with her" Jim said softly. The boy gave him an odd look and then slowly came around. The woman put her arm around the boy's shoulder and lead him towards a balcony. Tim looked over his shoulder anxiously. Jim smiled at him.
"So... what's your name handsome?" The woman asked. She was a perfect imitation of Batgirl, complete with red hair- save her green eyes. Tim pondered briefly if Barbara had possibly traded places with someone else and Dick was dancing with another woman... The woman giggled and kissed the boy's cheek. He looked away. "Shy, aren't you?"
"No ma'am" Tim replied softly. The woman stopped and sat him down on a bench. The stars outside shined like diamonds and the weather was oddly pleasant for that time of year. The woman leaned down so that her face was close to the boy's, her eyes locking with his.
"Do you know who I am?" She asked softly, her voice almost soothing.
"No ma'am" Tim croaked weakly. She smiled at him and put her hand on his face.
"I'm a friend of Bruce's... Selina Kyle. Perhaps you've heard of me?" The woman asked with a slight tilt of her head. Tim's eyes lit up and her grinned.
"Catwoman?!" The woman looked a little surprised, then started to laugh.
"Batgirl for tonight, but yes... Catwoman" Selina took a set next to him. "I'm so glad that's you know about me... I see Bruce had taught you well"
"Sorry, it's just he doesn't talk about woman to me, especially you" Tim added to the conversation. "He thinks I'm too young and that I don't listen to the conversations that he and Dick have... All I need to learn I can over hear"
"That's reassuring" Selina said with an uncomfortable laugh. She wasn't sure if what Bruce had said was good or bad. Tim could sense what was bothering her.
"He talks well of you... I think he really likes you" Tim offered with a smile.
"He always has" Selina replied with a distant look in her eyes. She looked down and the boy and ran his fingers through his emerald hair. A strange emotion came over her and she kissed the boy's forehead. "You're a sweet boy..."
"Timothy Drake... Tim to my friends... We're friends right?"
"Yea... we are" Selina cooed gently. Selina had always had a loner policy, much like her very rich friend, however, something suddenly changed at that moment. She couldn't put her finger on it, but something was beginning to form between her mind and the young boy.
"Good" Tim's eyes sparkled with live. Selina found herself caught by their energy and beauty. She had never liked kids much... But something was pulling her to him. She put her arm around his shoulder and pulled him close, but in a casual manner.
"Let's have a talk about your guardian... I ask the questions and you answer. How's that?" She asked playfully. Tim giggled in a boyish manner.
"Ok"

Bruce was waiting for Alfred to arrive when a Spanish woman dressed as a Spanish Dancer came up behind him. She had a long black dress that fit snugly against her hips flowing to the middle of her thighs and a white Mexican blouse that was tied in the middle, showing her belly button. Bruce didn't seem to notice, he seemed too preoccupied with someone he saw over by the snack table... or rather, didn't want to see.
"You seem a little out of it tonight Mr. Wayne. What's up?"
"Oh, hello Detective Montoya. What brings you here?" Bruce asked in his playboy, carefree manner. He glanced over to his visitor and scanned her figure. Her black hair was pulled back in a bun covered by a net of pearls, crisscrossing in a lovely design. For a moment he allowed himself to be completely captivated by her beauty, then went back to his average self. Rene smiled and giggled slightly.
"Socializing... Is something wrong?"
"No... no. Excuse me, but I have to talk to someone" Bruce's eyes locked on the blond snarffing down two cookies at once. Rene shrugged and turned back to go.
"Be my guest... I'll see you later!"
"Right" Bruce muttered softly. He slipped past the woman and strode up to the blond. She turned and choked on a cookie. Bruce gave her a gentle knock on the back, jarring the cookie free.
"Thanks... happens all the time!" She replied in a cheerful manner. Bruce smiled.
"So Miss..."
"Call me Harley... Hey, you look sharp! Kinda like Nightwing"
"Funny, I was about to say you looked like Harley Quinn" Bruce replied politely. The young blond giggled with delight and gave him a rather suggestive look.
"That's cause I am silly" She slipped up next to him, her blue eyes sparkling. "And who might you be stranger"
"You don't want to know" Bruce's voice suddenly changed pitch and inflection. Harley's eyes widened and she let out a soft squeak. Then he smiled. "I didn't mean to scare you Harley"
"It's ok... Heehee. Cookie?" Harley smiled weakly and held up a pumpkin sugar cookie with a big grin on it's face. Bruce smiled at her and took it.
"Thanks" He bit off the smile and Harley winced.
"I think I see my puddin'. Gotta go!" Harley took off for the bathrooms. Bruce smiled and shook his head. He turned and then went back to find Rene.

Barbara felt as if she were in the clouds. She and Dick seemed to sail across the floor together. Several waltz's were being played and the time seemed to flow by. A pair of eyes watched contently them. Two green fires burned fiercely.
"Just give the word Master..."
"Not yet..."
* * *
The Joker gave a loud sigh and watched the dance floor from the snack table. He growled as his eyes landed on about twenty different Batman's. He particularly hated the one that was dancing with the Egyptian chick. He shook his head.
"Some people have all the luck..." He wrinkled his nose. "And poor taste... Who in their right mind would dress up like that freak?"
"Excuse me buddy..." A tall rather pudgy man dressed as Batman pushed past him. Joker growled and moved. The man looked at him curiously. "Hey, you look like the Joker!"
"That's because I am the Joker you numb skull!" The Clown yelled angrily. The man gave a small yipe and shrank off towards the far end of the room. Joker shook his head with disgust. "Poor taste and disrespectful! Society has taken a turn for the worst these days"
"Watch it! I'm trying to get some food!" A small boy clad in purple pushed passed him. The boy grabbed a handful of cookies. The Joker glowered at the boy and clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Hey!"
"Listen you little punky-" The Joker's eyes widened. Then a huge smile spread across his face, his eyes shining with delight. "Well... finally. Someone with taste"
"Huh?" The boy looked at him, suddenly realizing who it was from prior experience. The boy gulped. The Joker put his pinkie to the side of his mouth and took on a pose similar to Dr. Evil.
"I think I shall call him- mini me" Joker said with a snobbish tone. The boy smiled weakly and forced a laugh. He dropped the cookies.
"Yea. Great. I'll tell ya what... I'm gonna go now. Buh bye" The boy turned and ran into the thick of the crowd. The joker waved with a huge smile plastered across his face. He wiped a tear away from his eye with a sniff.
"Good bye young fellow! Thank you for making my day!" The Joker sighed and clasped his hands together. "What an intelligent youth. Perhaps there is some hope"
"So old chap?" Penguin waddled over to the snack table. "How's it going?"
"Rather boring..."
"It will get better I'm sure... if you'll excuse me" Penguin nodded and walked off towards one of his many waitresses. The Joker scowled, then smiled wickedly.
"Maybe I should spike things up a bit..." He pulled out a bottle and dumped the contents into the punch. He chuckled wickedly, then put the bottle under his coat. Then he casually waltzed away. "That should do the trick..."
* * *
Suddenly Dick felt something tugging on his cape. He turned to see a minimized version of the Joker staring up at him with wide eyes. He smiled down at him warmly and tilted his head to the side in a curious fashion. Barbara smiled at him.
"Hey Tim, what's up?" Dick asked in a good natured tone.
"The Joker! That's what!"
"Yea I know. Bruce ran into Harley about an hour ago. I told you that there would be some freaks here" Dick shrugged and turned back to Barbara. Tim gave a sharp pull, his eyes still wide.
"Yea you did... but I don't wanna be the Joker any more"
"So what do you want me to do about it?" Dick asked, turning back to the boy. He looked rather annoyed but Tim didn't to care. Dick sighed. "Fine. There's another costume in the car. But next time take my advice"
"Thanks- I owe you" Tim turned and dashed out the doors. Barbara raised an eyebrow curiously. Dick chuckled and shook his head.
"Isn't the costume what he wears every night?" She whispered softly. Dick smiled.
"Yea, but he won't mind. And there's so many heroes here he'll fit right in" Dick shrugged it off. Then the two began to laugh. "Hey, I'm kinda thirsty... want a drink?"
"I'm ok... if you don't mind, I'm going to go talk to Uncle Jon for a bit. He's of in a corner all by himself" Barbara sighed quietly, her eyes shining sadly. Dick gently nudged her chin playfully.
"Sure. I'll catch you later. Oh, and say hi for me ok?"
"Ok" Barbara smiled, her eyes now dancing with delight. She gave him a quick peck on the check and hurried to where her uncle was sitting. Dick smiled after her.
"Now for some punch..."
* * *
Jon eyed the beautiful young woman coming towards him with fierce pride. His niece looked stunning to say the least in their native wear. He couldn't help but feel guilty over what he knew could become of it. Then his eyes locked on the necklace. He felt dread wash over him. Barbara smiled at him.
"Hi Uncle Jon"
"Hello my dear... How's your night going?"
"Wonderful... It's been surreal almost..." She smiled dreamily and her eyes danced merrily. As they fell across the room she saw another woman moving towards them, dressed in similar garb. The Princess narrowed her eyes and she felt her body tense. Anukselket smiled darkly and passed her by. RahaMa'at turned and watched her go, her eyes blazing...
"Are you alright dear?" Jon asked nervously.
"Fine Uncle Jon... Just fine..." Barbara replied coldly. Suddenly she realized that she was glaring after someone and had her fists clenched, poised for attack. She shook her head and turned back to Jon, whose face was solemn.
"He's been watching you all night"
"Who?" Barbara asked, clearly perplexed. Jon pointed to a man sitting in the shadows. His eyes gleamed slightly in the light. Barbara shuddered and looked at her uncle. "So?"
"I don't think you should have brought that here" He said, eyeing the jade around her neck. Barbara looked down and shrugged.
"Better here then at home. At least I can keep an eye on it"
"There will be a price to pay for tonight, though we may not see it yet" With that Jon rose to his feet and walked away. Barbara stared after him, wondering what he meant. She sighed and turned to go find Dick.
* * *
Dick took a sip of the punch and nearly fell over. He looked at the glass and shook his head. "Man, this stuff has got quite a kick to it..."
* * *
"So, I squeezed the filling into the guys face and he dropped me. I ran as fast as the wind, knowing they'd never be able to catch me and slid down the railing and bolted out the door... and ran smack into Two Face"
"How dreadful!" Selina purred softly, putting a hand to her mouth as if she were afraid. Tim smiled back at her proudly, his eyes gleaming through the mask. After a quick change he had located his companion from the balcony again. Tim puffed himself up like the bird he was.
"Puh, I wasn't afraid of old Puke Face. I'd had several run in's before and got away without a scratch... So, there I was- alone on the dock, surrounded by thugs, and Two Face ready to blow my brains out, when all of a sudden, Batman shows up! He came out of nowhere and the thugs freaked! It was great! And Two Face is like 'shot him!' and the thugs are unloading their guns" Tim added several sound effects to create more depth. Selina giggled. "Then, all of a sudden, Batman goes down! And guess whose job it is to save him?"
"Yours?" Selina cooed softly. Tim nodded, a grin plastered ear to ear.
"We plummet over the side of the docks- SPLASH!- Right into the water! This temporarily gave us some time, but I knew the thugs would soon be looking for us, so i told him 'we're sitting ducks', and he presses a button. Next thing I know we're beside the Batboat! We get in and the thugs open fire. I tell ya, it didn't look good. But Batman closed the hatch and off we sped to safety!"
"How exciting!" Selina clapped her hands with delight.
"And that's my encounter with Batman. And of course, the rest is history. He brought me to Jim and I spent the night at Barbara's. Next day Mr. Wayne called and said that he heard I was in a bit of a spot and would love to help me out" Tim leaned back against the chair, now being finished with his tale.
"My, you are an incredible boy..." Selina shook her head with amazement. He had told her so accurately that it was hard not to believe. "And that tale is amazing"
"It's not a tale- it's true. Ask Bruce"
"Maybe I will sometime..." Selina tilted her head thoughtfully. Tim grinned.
"How 'bout now?"
"Huh?"
"Good evening Ms. Kyle" Selina whirled around and rose to her feet, coming eye to eye with a handsome man dressed as Nightwing. She smiled weakly. "Good evening... sir.... May I help you?"
"Is that any way to address an old friend?" He smiled warmly. Her eyes widened.
"Bruce?!" The man nodded. "Bruce Wayne! My, don't you look sharp"
"You look pretty good yourself" Bruce replied, his eyes shining. Selina giggled softly and Tim smiled. She looked away shyly.
"I bet you say that to all the woman"
"Actually, you're right-" Selina glowered at him and Tim snickered and added a 'he really does'. Bruce's eyes twinkled again as he added, "But I sincerely mean it when it comes to you"
"Oh Bruce..." Selina melted. Tim pushed back his glove and looked at his watch.
"Look at the time... Gotta go! Bye Selina! Come and see us sometime! The door's always open!" Tim shouted over his shoulder before disappearing into the crowd. Bruce smiled again, not taking his eyes off her.
"Would you like to dance?"
"I'd love to" Selina purred. Bruce escorted her to the floor and the lights dimmed. As I Will Always Love You drifted across the air. Her eyes glistened as she felt his powerful arms wrap around her, drawing her near. He had always been a dear friend- always looking out for her, trying to turn her from her wayward ways, yet he seemed too shallow, too pampered to raise her interest... But something suddenly changed. Bruce seemed more mature, quicker... and almost darker then before. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but somehow Bruce had changed. Her eyes flashed as they met his and she swallowed hard. His eyes were gazing contently into hers. She thought that she liked the change, but wasn't entirely sure. "Bruce..."
"Don't say a word... Just dance..." Bruce replied in a deep voice, his eyes were unusually solemn, yet tender. Selina was surprised. It almost sounded like... She grinned and pressed herself against him, heat racing through her veins. Yes, She did like the change.
* * *
Out on one of the balconies another couple were caught up in the moment. Barbara and Dick were wrapped in each other's arms, enjoying the company. They were alone under a clear sky, filled with dozens of stars. The air was crisp, but not uncomfortable- and stars shown brightly. As Barbara stared off into space, her thoughts began to cloud... She saw before her eyes a great hall, with a feast in progress. It began to play like a movie before her eyes. The Princess gazed lonely into the eyes of the Captain, and to her surprise, he returned the gaze. Beside him his wife just glowered at her. RahaMa'at just ignored her. The Pharaoh laughed and talked with the new Queen, Seris was eyeing her and the Captain anxiously and the Visor seemed rather displeased. RahaMa'at rose and walked out onto one of the many balconies of the Palace. Moments later, she was joined by the Captain. She looked at him mournfully, knowing that he was so close but yet so far away. She glanced to her Temple, her prison. She locked eyes with him and he understood. It meant to meet her in the Sanctuary of Isis later that night. Their love was forbidden... But it still flourished...
* * *
The clock struck twelve and all the party goers cheered. Tim and Barbara were seated at a table across from her father. Dick had wandered off shortly after they returned from the balcony... probably to get some more punch. Bruce and Selina were still dancing and Uncle Jon had disappeared somewhere in the shadows along with the mysterious man. Barbara shuddered as she thought of him again. She had seen him before...
"Welcome Gotham's finest! To the annual Halloween Bash! Or should I say, All Saints Day, Halloween Bash, as it is now after twelve" Penguin merited a few chuckles and several drunken roars. He chuckled. The Joker and Harley had slipped off to a reserved room and the Commissioner was busying spending time with his top three officers. The floor was all his. "I am exceedingly proud to announce that-"
Suddenly all the lights dropped.

Heehee.... I know, I know. I'm probabbly gonna get it for that. Actually, 7/c was apart of that but the post was too long. Go figure. I got it done and am almost finished with 7/d. That's a huge HUGE scene for this story and the next... Did I say next? Opps... I was supposed to keep that a sercet. Oh well. Enjoy. 7/c will be up soon, (since it's actually finished). So keep your eyes pealed and fear not! Eight and Nine are also done, but might need some reworking. Any body care for a cross over of Lord of the Rings with Tim as Frodo? That's my current fasination. lol. Gosh I love Timmy...

(like Wayne and Garth)We're not worthy! We're not worthy!
Holy s! That kicked a--! Batgirl and Nightwing (the other Batgirl and Nightwing), the Captain and the Princess...that 'mini-me' creeped me out a bit...ROTJ, baby. Tim messing with Gordon's mind was pretty funny.
I can't wait for the next installment. PLEASE don't wait another 1-2 months!
HURRY AND POST! It's been 5 minutes!

First - Well worth the wait. I was bouncing up and down when I saw you'd posted another chapter!
Second - Then I got a little huffy when I saw you'd titiled it 'party of the centruy'. No way, I thought, you'll out do the parties the Midwinter's crashed.
Thrid - Hats off to the new champ of costume parties! Although, towrds the end I was wondering if I needed Cliff Notes to sort out Who's Who.
Let me see if I got this straight:
Batman is dressed as Nightwing (lol) while Nightwing is dressed as Batman (rotfl) along with twenty different batman's which the Joker objects to as crass. :D Catwoman is Batgirl and Batgirl is an Egyptian princess. ....wow.
Then I got freacked out with Robin as the Joker. Yeah, it was funny when Joker said the mini me line (I didn't know he was that hip with pop culture) - but still, I got chills, man! You really had me guessing with what Robin's costume was. I was thinking first the jolly green giant or some elf costume, then I was guessing the Creeper. Waddya shock the audience!
So much mystery and intrigue at this party!
Must go, I hope you post soon but good luck with school work too!

I agree with Panther. THe whole Tim as the Joker totally threw me off... poor kid, having the real Joker call him Mini-me. And I can just imagine Babs dressed up in the Egyptian get up. Batman as Nightwing and Nightwing as Batman is a very good idea.
I love this story, and I can't wait to read more.

Yea, I thought the Tim thing was kinda creepy too, that's why I put it in. I couldn't help ripping off ROTJ just a little. As for the Bruce/Dick switch thing, I had no idea what to have them go as and it just popped into my head that that would be kinda funny to see. The Selina as Batgirl thing just kinda followed 'cuz Nightwing and Batgirl always have a thing for each other. Thanks for not ditching me on this and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Wow, one to twomonths? I had no idea it was that long... Sorry guys. Just for that I'll post 7/c. Now 7/d is still not finished, but it's overhalf way done. I wanna make sure I do it just right. It's a VERY VERY big scene between two characters. :) Wanna guess who they are? Heehee. Oh yea, and the villian is finally revealed too. Just thought I'd add that- but I have a feeling that some of you already know who it is. Ah well. Guess you'll just have to wait and see. ;)

A chorus of shrieks and screams sounded and chaos broke free. Barbara leapt to her feet, Tim following her. She felt her way around the panicking crowd, being pulled every which way. Tim lost her path several feet behind her and froze. He tried to see through the dark but to no use. He felt fear start to creep up inside him.
"Barbara!" No answer. Several people pushed him aside. "Barbara! Where are you!"
He was pulled and tugged in every direction, crying out for someone, any one that he knew. His heart sank and he started to push. His trembling frame was suddenly shoved to the ground as a herd of panic stricken party goers trampled over him. A new fear over came him as he struggled to his feet... the realization that he could be trampled to death. Tim and time again he was pushed back down to the ground, unable to rise. He cried out desperately.
"Help! Help! I'm being crushed! Someone help me please!" Tim slammed into the ground again and felt people tripping over him, pounding him with their feet. He curled into a ball and began to cry. Suddenly he felt a powerful grip on his shoulder and was pulled up onto his feet, then onto a table. Someone held him close as the masses swarmed by.
"It's ok Tim... I'm here" A soft voice said quietly. Tim snuggled close to the woman and began to sob. He may have been a Dark Knight, but he was very much a boy. Selina pulled him tightly to her and kissed his forehead, determined never to let go.
* * *
Several moments after she had been separated from Tim, Barbara felt a pit form in her stomach. She turned blindly, vainly trying to see in the darkness. She felt around her for the boy, but to no avail. Her heart dropped.
"Tim? Tim?! Where are you?" She turned right and left, unable to locate the boy. She shoved and pushed her way around various guests. Her foot hit something under a table and she stooped down. "Tim?"
"Hello dear... Just looking for a contact" A soft accent replied. Barbara grinned, despite the current situation and shook her head.
"Uncle Jon! Some Superman you are... hiding under a table!"
"Well, I... Heehee. Sorry dear, not as spry as I used to be" He replied sheepishly. Barbara shook her head and continued her search. She felt someone grab her arm and a soft breeze around her neck. She shoved the person away and began to call the boys name again.
* * *
The moment the lights went out Bruce had immediately thought of finding a safe area for the members of his party. He had heard Tim's cries and felt ill. After setting the boy on the table, with Selina, he set off to find his other family. Not long after, he literally ran into Dick. Dick had been searching for Barbara. He looked to where Bruce's voice came from.
"Now what?"
"I'm not sure... I've located Tim, but I don't know where Alfred or Barbara-" at that moment the light flickered back on. All action in the room came to a halt and everyone cheered. The two let out a sigh of relief. Barbara spotted the pair and found her way over.
"Dick" He turned and the two embraced.
"You alright?" He noticed that the lights were extremely bright and that his head felt kind of fuzzy. Barbara pulled back a bit and stared.
"Fine... What on earth have you been drinking?"
"Punch"
"Great" Bruce muttered, happening to catch a whiff of his son's breath. "Someone spiked the punch... Just what we need"
"Is everyone alright?" Barbara asked, turning to Bruce.
"If everyone is referring to Tim, then yes" Bruce replied casually. Barbara gave a sigh of relief. She turned back to Dick.
"Good, tell him I'm sorry. In the meantime, I'm driving you home" Dick looked at her curiously, a faint smile played on his lips.
"And why is that?"
"You're not driving drunk" Barbara replied firmly, putting her hands on her hips. Dick groaned but gave in. He knew it wasn't any use to argue. Bruce chuckled and the small group gave their farewells. Then he went back to check on Tim.
* * *
A young woman smiled as a tall, bald man approached her. He bowed respectfully before her, then rose. Her eyes gleamed and her body trembled with excitement. The man was clad in tan attire, pants and an open sleeveless shirt. He waited for the woman to inquire before he spoke.
"Do you have it?" She hissed softly. He grinned and opened his folded hands. A large jade object sparkled in the light, reflecting off her eyes. She grinned. "Good... he will be pleased"

Batgirl is in soooooo much trouble now for losing the necklace!!! Yeah, I figured out who the real villian was when the "guests" showed up for the party a couple of chapters ago. Poor Tim! To be so scared, you'd think that being Robin would have toughened him up a little. Nice way to show emotion there. Since when did Selina start becoming so motherly? That side of her really showed in the last chapter and this one. You're doing well so far, I cannot wait to read the rest!

Well, it /finally/ hit me who the villains 99.9% probably are - boy I feel stupid for not figuring it out sooner! I had them pegged as two compltly different people! :o
My heart went out to Tim being trampled. Hmm, Catwoman is acting very nice - so far. But then, if anyone would bring out the motherly side of catwoman, it would have to be the adorable Tim.
You made Dick drunk! LOL! Who's next? {Not Tim - he's underage! :eek:}
And that was so totally in character for John to dive udner the table. 'Looking for a contact' my eye!

Barbara pulled her car up to Dick's 'warehouse' as she called it and helped the indisposed man inside. The two collasped onto the couch and began to talk and laugh about various things. She figured she'd be there until one or two in the morning just finishing her conversation, but she didn't seem to mind... She had all the time in the world...
* * *
From a building across from the Iceburg Lounge, a tall, dark man was waiting patiently in a comfortable room, watching the turn of events. He had left the party, an hour or two before the 'incident' and saw the woman and man pass over the road and enter the building. Several moments later a knock sounded at the door. He smiled darkly and opened the door. The woman bowed.
"Father"
"Yes, Talia?" He asked quietly. She looked up, a smile on her face. Then she drew back a cloth from her hand and revealed a beautiful jade scarab. His emerald eyes blazed fiercely.
"The Scarab of Amon Ra... The key to the Book of the Dead... At last" A satisfied hiss came from his throat and a chilling laugh filled the room.

Penguin had the music rolling and in no time the guests had forgotten the incident. Alfred had taken Tim home, it being long past his bedtime and to calm the boy's nerves after almost being trampled. Bruce and Selina took the floor. The Commissioner and his two Detectives figured that everything would be fine and had turned in for the night. Uncle Jon was busy talking to a fasinated Ms. Veeland. The D.J. fired up his records and Unchained Melody soon burst forth from the speakers.
* * *
Ra's al Ghul stood before a table, lit only by candles, staring at an opend scroll and the Scarab of Amon Ra. His eyes were set and solenm, the room was filled with silence. Talia and his faithful servant Ube stood behind him. Ra's studied the scroll, at the ancient writing, in symbols long ago.

Uncle Jon paused in mid sentence, suddenly sensing something terribly wrong. Ronnie looked at him, her eye wide with intrigue. Jon stood, ready to go. Ronnie sprang to her feet.
"Oh Jon! You can't go now! You just got to the part where you and the swordsman are about to fight!" She said, her voice clearly holding a fasination to the story. He smiled at her politely.
"I'm afraid I must go... but I'll see around. Until then, Cheerio" Jon bowed respectfully and made for the door. Ronnie watched him go and sighed. There weren't enough good stories to make her dull life entertaining.

It was getting late and Barbara felt that it was time for her to go. She looked at Dick, who was half awake and half sober. He sighed loudly and stared at the stairs longingly. Barbara shhok her head and sighed in a good natured way.
"Want a hand?"
"If it's not too much trouble" Dick replied weakly. Barbara laughed and help Dick stand. then the two proceeded up the stairs and into Dick's room.

Ra's looked up and began to recite the incantation in the ancient tongue. Talia and Ube stood still and watched. Several moments after Ra's began, Ube leaned over to Talia. She glanced at him.
"What's he saying?" He muttered softly.
"He's saying, Oh Great Anubis, Taker of the dead, bring forth your book- guide your servant by your light to the gift which I greatly desire- The gift which gives life to those who have passed- The book that restores vitality to limbs long at rest- guide me to that which I seek..." Talia chanted softly. "Open the gates of time to that of long ago, let the river of years flow backward, and turn the sun to times endured of old. Bring back that which has long passed from mind, I seek your book, let me find your treasure... Open my mind to the days of long ago... Bring back the memories which I have long ago forgotten... Those that are not mine but will become mine own..."

Dick slipped off the cowl and the suit, stripping down to his boxers. Barbara tossed the clothes to the side and pulled back the covers. She hugged her friend and he snickered softly. She pulled back and shook her head.
"Richard, you have a horrible mind" She scolded playfully. He smiled at her and the two gazed into the other's eyes. Richard put his hand under her chin, his eyes shining with tenderness.
"Better go before you get too comfortable... Your dad wouldn't like that" He replied softly. She giggled and hugged him again. She let go, intending to leave, when suddenly a mist clouded her eyes and her mind began to wander into a dream like state. The room around her began to shift and the sands of time clouded her mind... She stood in the Temple of Isis, who she was now bound to because of her father. It was her duty to sleep under the statue at all times to serve her. She looked at the statue bitterly and spat. Her eyes were flaming as her thoughts turned to it. *You think this is a joke do you? Smiling, ALWAYS smiling! Giver of life they say, protector of mother's... They lie! I hate you!* Her thoughts were interrupted by a strong hand on her shoulder.
"Your crying"
"I am sorry love- but fate has sentenced me to punishment greater then death" The Princess replied softly, she turned to her lover. He smiled sadly, running his hand down her face.
"You are not dead... and we shall not be apart. I told you once that not even your father shall keep us apart..." The Captain's face hardened with resolve. "He shall not" He stated firmly. The Princess smiled. "Nor shall Isis..."
The Princess gasped. Her words had been in anger, but to actually voice something as what he said was sheer insult. She drew close so that the two were touching. She trembled slightly.
"Do not talk like that... It is death"
"Then Death shall take me. I would rather live in the Underworld forever then live an eternity without you at my side" The Captain kissed her passionately, to which the Princess returned the kiss in full... Dick had no idea what was happening. One moment they were talking, the next he had Barbara in his embrace. Things began to pick up, moving faster then before. The kiss became passionate and he felt the fire surge through his veins again, this time unable to contain it... Desire engulfed the lovers. The Captain's hand moved along her sides and to her shoulders.[i/] Barbara felt the costume slip from her shoulder down her arms. [i]The Princess felt her will and body giving away... She let her feelings consume her common sense. Barbara's back hit the bed and her costume slipped to the floor. The Princess and Captain once again shared in the love they so desired. The eyes of the mother of Egypt watched silently. Of all the greatest insults, none were worse then to take a maiden that was devoted to her. Yet, the moon glittered off the eyes as if they had been that of a living breathing person, and the smile endured. Tonight the two would experience life and love, and she, the mother of Egypt, would create it.
P.S. THIS PART'S FOR YOU MARK!!!! LOL. (Sorry, inside joke.)

Johnathan Carnell was shaking. His body wasn't as spry as he used to be, that was pitifully obvious about now. Despite his physical restraint, his will drove him on. If it was true- if the amulet was really gone- then there wasn't much time until that man would go for the book. John knew that whatever it cost, that man could never, EVER lay hands on the Book of the Dead. If he did, the world was doomed. Jon finally burst through the door of the new Egyptian exhibit. He paused a moment, leaning on the door to catch his breath. Playing hero sure was tough sometimes...
He found his way around several displays to the case that held the Book of the Dead. He took a deep breath and lifted the lid. It slumped over the side of the case and Jon reached inside. He withdrew the Book of the Dead from it's resting place. He placed it to the side, then placed a large object inside, hoping it would do the trick. Jon closed the case and picked up the book. He sighed heavily and held the book to his chest. As he did, his darling neice came to mind.
"Forgive me child..." Jon turned and fled out the way he came. He was sad that it had come down to this, but he had to protect her. For the sake of his brother-in-law, for the sake of his darling neice... and most of all, for the sake his deceased sister, whom he loved dearly.
* * *
Talia watched as her father stopped the incantation. He turned to her, a smile on his face. The amulet was glowing. He spoke in a low voice, "It has awakened"
"Where is it Father?"
"We strike the museum tomorrow night"

Barbara groaned softly and opened her eyes. The clock said it was two in the morning, her body said it needed to sleep, and her mind said she had to get out of there. She looked to her over to where her lover- Barbara shuddered, the word unfamiliar to her, lay sleeping at her side. She sucked in her breath and slipped out of bed. Barbara fought the tears that threatened to fall. How could he let this happen? How could she let this happen? Barbara quickly gathered up her costume from the party and headed for the door. The soft sound of movement caught her attention. She heard his voice reach through the night.
"Babs?" Barbara cringed inwardly. Great, he was awake. She stopped at the door.
"Yea?"
"Where are you going?" Silence.
"Home"
"Why?"
"I- I have to" Barbara really couldn't think of a good reason.
"Look, we both were really stupid, but there's no point in you going home now. Dawn's only a few hours away. Why don't you just stay the whole night?" There was a brief pause. Barbara saw Dick's blue eyes watching her from where he lay. She sighed softly.
"Ok" She tossed the costume into a small pile and carefully found her way back to the bed. She slipped under the covers and turned towards the window. She felt two powerful arms slip around her and she closed her eyes. She knew that she would probably regret this night sometime down the road, but at the moment she didn't care. All she cared about was getting some sleep and two powerful, warm arms were rocking her to sleep.
* * *
Rays of sunshine slipped through the curtains of Dick's bedroom and he looked own at the woman sleeping in his arms. He wanted to regret what had happened the night before. He wanted to tell her he was sorry. He wanted to say that it had been a mistake. But the truth was that he didn't regret it... Dick kissed her neck gingerly and the woman stirred. He drew in a sharp breath. Barbara turned onto her back and looked up at him. Dick swore over and over in his head but remained silent. Finally he decided to break the tension.
"Morning" He said weakly. Barbara just stared. Dick let her go and turned to the ceiling. That had gone well... "Look, about last night-"
"I just want to forget last night ok?" Barbara said quietly. Dick took a breath.
"I know. I'm sorry"
"Are you?" She asked softly. Dick looked away, not willing to lie. "That's what I thought... It's ok. I understand, it's not your fault"
"Look Babs, I never meant to- I mean, I don't want to hurt you, it's just I- I really am sorry... For what happened I mean... I didn't want to-" Barbara put a finger to his lips.
"I know Dick" She replied quietly. "It's going to be ok... We'll just- I slept in after arriving home late and that I went home after seeing you in... No one has to know..."
"If that's what you want..." Dick brushed his finger's against her face gently. Barbara looked away, tears threatening to fall. She took a moment to think. Dick stared at her a moment. He thought she looked good in his shirt, but would never say it out loud, especially after what had happened. Barbara looked up at him. She had made up her mind.
"Yes... it is"
* * *
Barbara sat on her couch staring out the window. She had barely moved from her spot all day... that was, since she got home. She and Dick had talked, agreeing that they would say that she brought him home and left... they would just leave out what happened in between and what time she left. Barbara wished dearly she could forget it- but she couldn't. And she knew that he couldn't either. It would always be there. Every time he looked at her, every time they were together, every time she heard his name... It would never go away. Barbara sighed loudly. Her father had called several times and she finally decided to pick up the phone. She had told him that she had slept in. It wasn't really a lie- she had. Barbara looked into the cup of coffee she had. Not a drop had been touched. She couldn't bring herself to tell her father. It would be too painful- for the both of them. Barbara laughed bitterly. She figured he already knew. Her father always seemed to know what she was up to... Her eyes drifted across the night sky, landing on the beacon that signaled her night life to begin. She groaned loudly and got up. Hero time once again...

A black limo pulled up to the curb of the Gotham Museum. Large banners announced the arrival of Princess RahaMa'at. During the day the streets were jam packed full of curious on lookers. Now they were all but deserted. A tall, shadowy figure got out of the car, followed by a young woman. Inside the Book of the Dead was on display. It was time for it find a new home...

 Oh my God! That was amazing. Poor Jon, I feel so sorry for him. I know this probably doesn't sound good, but I am glad that Dick and Babs finally slept together (even though it could have been a time more pleasant for them). It is not fair to the characters, that Bruce ALWAYS gets all the women. We always see bruce kissing and sleeping with many women, but Dick has NEVER ever kissed a girl every in the entire season of shows. I just thought that was unfair.
I have a question: Is Babs sad that they just passed the line of friendship or that she lost her virginity? I am sorry, but I am just curious. I just don't understand why she is so upset :D . Hmn, maybe it is just me. Well, anyway I LOVED the new part, please write more soon.

I'll post more a little later... Before I go to state... Any way. Glad you're all enjoying the story. I'm lucky I still have readers after my little two month hiatus. Any how, Cathy, Babs is upset b/c they crossed the line. Not so much that it was done (well, that too, but...), but also the way it was. She's upset b/c (in my story any way) she wanted to remain a virgin until she was married. Of course, we all know that deep down inside she and Dick were dying to- but he respected her and she was fine with friendship. Of course, alcohol and temporary insanity do a lot to people. Barbara always wanted to sleep with him- she just wanted to wait until he put a ring on her finger and said 'I do'. (The whole commitment thing he was never good at). She felt like she somehow violated that friendship- which in a way she did. She knows that they can never go back to just being friends- they shared something special- they gave a part of themself to the other (of course, that what's it's about...) Dick on the other hand feels bad b/c he feels like he let her down. He respected her feelings but on the other hand he's a guy. (Sorry, I don't mean to bash any guys, esp. you Coran, you're a real sweetheart!) He wasn't sorry it happened, but again he was a little sorry the way it happened. He would have prefered to be engaged at least. So, even though it hurts, he's willing to keep quiet. He's always wanted to be that close and apart of her, but he's not fully ready to commit. That means that between now and the next story some things and circumstances will change. Any way, I hope I answered your question. (And to any one who's wondering- yes, I do believe in chasity and saving yourself for marriage. I did that little event to advance the plot, I'm not saying that's a good idea. It also has to do with a person's actions and the consequence's they face.) Oh and Coran... be good or no more story! lol. Thanks for your moral support. Part 9 to come soon. You guys are really gonna love what I do to Babs and Dick in the next part! lol. Just don't hurt me when it happens... I hope I've cleared all up. If there are anymore questions, just ask! Thanks all! :)

Sorry I never replied before, I've just been doing that quiet spectator thing, but trust I've read. Thanks for explaining all that. I too believe in waiting until you get married. What can I say, I am a hopeless romantic :D ! But, I might be biased because I haven't got a boyfriend yet. A Sixteen year old girl should have a boyfriend by now (don't you think?), but NOO, her parents have to be overprotective. Oops, getting off subject :D ! I don't know how hard it is to say no to a guy, while all you other girls have experience in that subject. I never even had a date, let alone kissed a guy! I guess I won't understand until it happens. I understand that people do sleep with each other without being married, so I am not going to be a prude and say it is wrong. For me personally, i would wait, but I am ok with other people doing what they please. You get my drift? So, I totally agree wholeheartly with you guys.
Sincerely, Cathy
P.S. sorry i rambled on and on (someone should stop me now).

*laughs* Don't be so embaressed about not even having a boyfriend Cathy. How about this one for you... I'm a 17, almost 18 year old guy that has never dates and never kissed a girl. I believe totally in abstinence before marriage. Anyhow, for my part, it's not that I'm uninterested in dating a girl, but there are other things that I need to do first. I don't want to start dating until I'm ready for the possibility of the relationship going all the way until marriage. That means a good job with steady income and such. Anyhow... sorry about rambling. Can't wait to read more of you're story Batgirl!

Wow, that's awesome. It's ok Cathy, I'm going to be 18 next Thursday and I've never had a boyfriend, been kissed etc... I figure it'll happen when it's supposed to. Coran, I think it's cool that you have a firm set of beliefs. Most guys your age don't think that way. You sound like a great guy. I'm sure that when the time comes you'll marry a wonderful woman who deserves you. Oh, that's all. i'll post really soon. Just wanted to say that.

Several thugs entered the new exhibit and began to toss things around. Their prize was the Book of the Dead. They were dressed in dark clothes and looked as if they belonged in the Arabian Exhibit. A tall man clad in green attire strode into the room. A beautiful young temptress followed shortly.
"Father, are you sure it's here?"
"The Curator has been a long time friend of mine and an excellenct source of information. If he says it's here- it's here"
"Then where is it?" The daughter snapped impatiently. Her father patted her back.
"Patience my daughter, patience. We don't want to bring any... 'unwanted' attention to our presence in this city now do we?" His eyebrow raised slightly. The woman looked down, her pale cheeks flush.
"No father, of course not"
"Good. Now start looking" He growled softly. The woman brushed back her hair and headed towards a dark corner. She smiled as her eyes spied the object they had come for. A loud crash echoed through the halls and the two whirled about angerily. Ra's balled his fists with anger, his eyes glowing. "Becareful with that! These are priceless artifacts!"
"Sorry sir" The thug muttered weakly, he cowered away. He didn't like to bring down his master's wrath. Ra's waved his hand and brushed it aside. The temptress cried out angerily, her father turned.
"What is it?"
"It's a fake!" She sreamed angerily. "It's gone! Someone took it!"
"What?!" Ra's stormed to his daughter's side. He clenched his fists, his temper reaching a dangerous peak. Talia noticed that his knuckles were turning white.
"Follow me you two" The dark man signaled to his daughter and his most trusted body guard, then to the door. "The rest of you! Clean up this mess- I don't want to be traced... Is that clear?" The men nodded fearfully. "Good..." He growled bitterly. "Now get going. Talia! Ube!"
The loyal guard and obedient daughter bowed their heads and followed the man out the door. The thugs began operation clean up after the three had disappeared. After half an hour the place was spotless. The thugs let out a sigh of relief and shuddered. As much as they feared their master's anger, the thing they feared most was-
"Good evening Gentlemen. I'd love to show you around, but I believe the mesuem is closed. Perhaps you should come back tomorrow" The leader spun around and came face to face with the one and only...
"Hey, who are you?" The thug asked blankly. The shadow smiled.
"Your worst nightmare" WHAM. The other thugs looked around nervously. The shadow stepped forward, clad in a black suit with a blue bird. He grinned. "And for those of you who don't know me- the name's Nightwing. Pleased to meet all of you. Now, I'll count to three. I expect all present to clear out so there won't be any trouble. "One..." The leader got up, stubling to his men. "Two..." A glance passed between them. It was one against ten. The leader smiled. "Three"
"GET HIM!!!" All ten charged at the shadow. Nightwing shook his head.
"If you insist" With amazing grace and aglity the shadow executed a series of flips, punches and rolls, managing to take out three of his oppenents. The shaodw grinned. They were out cold. The remaining thugs regrouped. "Now, let's try this again shall we? Leave or things are gonna get messy"
"Ok, he just took out three of us. There's seven left" The leader said nervously. Obviously his heart wasn't in it. "Seven to one isn't that bad"
"Seven to two boys" A cool feminine voice said coolly. The guys gulped and turned to see Batgirl leaning against the door. She smiled at them.
"Ok, this is bad... what do you think guys?" The leader asked softly.
"Let's take them boss. There's only two" One of them replied. The others nodded.
"Ok, let's do it" The seven turned and split four three. Batgirl leapt at her oppenents and began to throw punches at the various boneheads that were dumb enough to get too close. The foes began the ritual dance of battle. Nightwing was busying prancing around the leader and his three companions. Robin peaked in through the skylight, then swung down... and just in time. The three thugs that Nightwing had taken out had just woken up.
"Hey guys. Just thought I'd drop by" He called out. Nightwing turned and grinned.
"Good timing"
As the three knights were dealing with the minor thugs, their leader ran to one of the display cases and smashed the glass. He grew out a gilded daggar and grinned wickedly, quietly creeping up behind Nightwing. Batgirl's eye caught on a glimmering piece of metal. She spun around, an odd feeling washing over her. She ran towards the leader. The two struggled briefly. Barbara kicked him in the gut and felt the hilt of the deadly weapon slip into her hand... RahaMa'at gazed at the daggar, taking in it's beauty... The cold steel would soon run with the blood of a traitor. She looked up, hiding the blade behind her. The Captian entered the room, looking nervous. She smiled wryly.
Batgirl ran her fingers along the daggar, caught up in the vision. Nightwing turned to see where his back up had gone. A look of confusion crossed his face. Barbara had been acting a little strange laterly, but she wasn't one to space out. He frowned.
"Batgirl!"
"Hello Captian"
"What?" Dick muttered softly. He had gotten her attention, but wasn't sure he liked the look she was giving him. It was as if she were a million miles away, but still there... and it looked like she were planning something. Something unpleasent. To make matters worse, she was speaking in jibberish. "Batgirl?"
"RahaMa'at... I came as soon as I heard. Pharaoh- will he live?"
"He will live" RahaMa'at said softly. "But you will not..."
Nightwing raised his eyebrow. Something was definately up. Batgirl advanced with a quick bound, revealing the daggar, drew and ready for attack. Her eyes were covered by a heavy mist as the weapon started a dangerous trek downwards. Dick froze, too stunned to move. "Batgirl?! What are you-"
Rahorus cried out and stepped back, eyes wide with fear. RahaMa'at's eyes narrowed as she attacked relentlessly. Rahorus stumbled to dogde the blows unsuccessfully. The Princess persued her prey viciously, slashing over and over. Blood sprayed in every direction and the Captain cried out in pain. Tears welled up in the eyes of the Princess and her loud scream rang through the air.
"TRAITOR!"
"Batgirl what are you doing?!?!" Robin pulled the dazed woman off of their companion. Barbara looked down and saw the daggar dripping with blood- Dick's blood. Barbara drew back from her victum and stared in horror. Dick looked up at her, his eyes large and questioning, his chest covered in deep scarlet hues. He winced softly and drew in a weak gasp.
"Barbara?" He inhaled sharply for a breath, his voice barely audible. Robin stared in horror. Nightwing collapsed to his kness, then fell onto his back. His form was completely still. Barbara looked down at the daggar again and whimpered... The Captian of the Guard lay on the floor, bloodly and unconscious. RahaMa'at was staring at the crimson daggar. A soft whimper came from her throat. She dropped to her knees and gingerly extended her hand. It touched his face gently. He was breathing, but the breaths came in short shallow gasps.
"What have I done?" She asked fearfully. The sudden sound of voices caught her attention. Her father and the Captian;s new wife would arrive any moment. RahaMa'at looked at the Captian a final time, then at her blood stained clothed. The Princess turned and ran. The daggar clattered to the ground. She heard the doors open, her father had entered the room. Moments later a loud cry of lamant filled the halls.
Batgirl dropped the blood stained daggar and knelt at Nightwing's side, Robin quickly joining her. The thugs looked around nervously. The leader couldn't believe what had just happened. Batgirl put Nightwing's head in her lap. She couldn't help but notice how red her suit had become. Barbara stroked back Dick's hair gently, whimpering softly.
"Nightwing? Oh God... Robin, check his pulse"
"It's good... but he's losing blood fast" Robin replied quickly. He took off his cape and pressed it against the deep cuts. Batgirl began to sob. The thugs looked at one another and then scrambled out the door. They weren't sure of what had happened, or what would happen next, but they were sure of one thing... they wanted out of there. Breaking and entering was one thing, murder was another. A dark shadow appeared on the floor, looming overhead. The Dark Knight landed silently, watching the thugs flee. He turned to his protegees. As his eyes fell on Dick's form, a large pit formed in his stomach.
"NIGHTWING!" Bruce was next to his son in a hearbeat. He examined the wounds and drew in a slow breath. His mind was struggling to stay calm. He closed his eyes for a moment. Then, he looked up, his eyes colder then ice. However, his eyes were a tropical forest compared to his voice. "What... happened?"
"I- I- I don't know!" Barbara stuttered weakly. Batman turned his gaze to Robin. Tim looked down, unwilling to talk. Bruce clenched his jaw. He couldn't help but notice the blood smeared all over Barbara's suit. However, he knew his silence was worse then a lecture... for the moment.
"Fine. We'll discuss this later. Robin, help me get Nightwing to the Batmobile. Take him to the cave... You know who will take care of him... Batgirl- go home. I'll see where our 'friends' are off to" He glared at Batgirl as he strode past.
"Got it" Robin and slipped his arm under his companion's shoulders and lifted him.
Batman stopped at the door, and turned. A look of concern on his face.
"And Robin?"
"Yea?"
"I'll be there as soon as I can" Bruce turned and disappeared into the hall.
"Bruce-" Barbara rose to her feet, her mind whirling. The Dark Knight's shadow disappeared. Barbara felt a pit begin to form. She moaned softly and shot off a jump line. She peaked over the side of the building and watched the Batmobile slip into the night. Batgirl whimpered softly, then she turned and walked away. Somehow she got home. She took a bath to wash away the blood, but the stain it left on her remained. Barbara slipped on a robe and sat on the couch. A feeling of overwhelming anguish overcame her. She curled up into a ball and began to sob.

The tears, mingled with sleep brought to the young woman strange and troubling dreams. She wasn't sure if she was in the past, present or a time that had not yet come to pass. The woman found herself walking down long, elagant halls. She found that she had reached the end, and was looking into a great hall, with tables prepared for a banquet. A loud voice filled the hall.
"PREGNANT?!?!?!" The hall fell silent. The Pharaoh's glass flew to the floor. All at once the woman was the Princess trembling at his feet. The glass shattered, spraying her with it's contents and bits of pottery. She looked up in terror.
"Father please..." She begged weakly. The Pharaoh turned his back to her. Basamut stood, touching his shoulder gently. He brushed her away. "FATHER!"
"Out of my sight! You are no daughter of mine!" He roared angerily. Basamut turned to her new daughter. She helped the Princess to her feet.
"Hush child. Go to my quarters... He will listen- later" Basamut wiped away the Princess's tears. RahaMa'at nodded. She turned and quickly escorted herslf from the room. Basamut turned to the Pharaoh.
"Please Pharaoh, do not be angry... She is young- what can you expect. You did not ask her feeling on assigning her the role you did, can you blame her? Please, wise Pharaoh, listen to me... She has given you an heir! Perhaps it was meant for her to play a greater role then that of which she was given. What do you say wise and great Pharaoh?" Basamut looked at the man nervously, hoping he would listen to her. Pharaoh turned, his arms followed across his chest. His earth brown eyes were thoughtful, his jaw drawn tight.
"Tomorrow I decide her fate. I have spoken" Pharaoh turned and walked out of the room. The hall buzzed with a thousand questions. Who was the father? What punishment would befall the beautiful Princess? What would Isis say? Basamut sighed and sank into her seat. She had grown to love the girl, but knew that if RahaMa'at was sentenced to die she would be helpless. RaAmon stared off into space, a dark look across his face. He had been able to stop the Captian from marrying the Princess and had done everything to tear them apart, yet he had failed. The Captian had given Pharaoh an heir... Something the vizor was determined that Rahorus would never learn...
Barbara moaned and turned over in her sleep, unconsciously putting her hand to her stomach. Her brows furrowed. How did she know this?... The dream went on. The Visor was suddenly leaning over a badly wounded young man. He looked up.
"What do you want Ra'Amon" The Captian asked bitterly, his eyes blazing but his voice weak. The Vizor smiled like a serpant.
"I brought you a gift, son of mine"
"Why?"
"Because i wanted to say how sorry I was..." Ra'Amon slide his hand to the basket. The Captian's eyes widened with anger. He stirred slightly.
"YOU! You planned all of this! My wedding your daughter, the Pharaoh's attempted murder, the burden of the Princess... You traitor! You- You snake!"
"You have no idea..." Ra'Amon replied with a hiss. His hand slipped into the basket.
"Why are you telling me this?" The Captian demanded. A soft hiss was heard and the Captian's eyes widened with fear. The head of an asp appeared several inches away from him.
"Because I mean to kill you" With that, the hand released the asp and the dealy serpant found it's mark. RaHorus cried out in pain. The snake slithered onto the floor and then out the door. The man clasped his arm, where the fangs had found there mark. The marks wouldn't be found unless a careful examination was conducted. The vizor smiled cruelly and RaHorus stared up at him with wide eyes.
"No..." He gasped weakly. His breath became hard and it became a chore to inhale.
"I will have the throne fool. I will have her..." Ra'Amon leaned down so the two were seperated by inches. His eyes glimmered. RaHorus drew in a deep breath. "I will have *your* child in the palm of my hand..."
"My... child?" The Captian croaked. He suddenly realized why the Princess was so angry. The man who had given her a child- out of marriage and against her vows- had been accused of trying to kill her father for the power. It all made sense. In a desperate moment even his lover could falter. He understood and felt a deep sorrow for her. "RahaMa'at..."
"I have won Captian... and there's nothing you can do... Egypt, and your precious child are mine" The Vizor turned and strode out of the room. RaHorus watched him go, his eyes narrow.
"You... will... not... prevail- I- will... not let- that happen" The Captian fell back, his breath coming in short rasps. Death was at his side. He would not see the next rising oif the sun. He would not see his beloved Princess. He would not see his child... He closed his eyes. It had all been for nothing. His life had been in vain. Then all faded into darkness...
Barbara began to cry in her sleep. She was so wrapped up in the dream that she wasn't aware that she was dreadfully close to the edge of the couch or her actions outside of the dream. Then the dream moved forward again. Halls of stone lead her to an ancient room where pain was often inflicted upon unfortunate souls. So it was at the moment...
"Where is it?"
"I will never tell!" A loud cry of pain echoed through the halls.
"I ask you again Seris? WHERE IS IT! My patience grows thin!"
"May your soul forever wander without rest you treachous snake! You vile creature! May your mummy be burned and your Ka forever bound to suffer!" Seris cried venomently. Ra'Amon slapped the bound captive.
"THEN YOU WILL DIE!" The Vizor drew a sword. He advanced upon the captive. Seris looked up at the man, no trace of fear in his being, only defianice. He would not give into something so repulsive... At that same moment, the Princess, now in her early twenties, gently kissed her son's forehead.
"Good night my son. Be good"
"Yes mama" The boy turned and followed the Queen into his own quarters. For three years of age he was incredibly smart. The Queen nodded to her daughter with a smile. RahaMa'at returned the smile. The Princess went out to the balcony and looked out into the stars. Several moments later, the Queen returned. She watched the young woman.
"Dreaming?" She asked quietly. The Princess nodded. Her thoughts drifted to the day her father had come to accept his heir, several days before his birth. She had been rich with child at that time, and in her garden... RahaMa'at looked at her reflection in the clear pool of her sactuary. During her exile from the public eye she had come to find great solice in the waters of the pool. Her only visitors were the new Queen, her new mother and her dear uncle Seris. Tears rippled the surface of the pool as the woman thought of her father. He had not spoken to her since he said that she could live- but only within the Temple walls. Then her thoughts drifted to her deceased lover. She closed her eyes.
"Do not sorrow my Princess... He is in a better place. My anger has long diminished and you have nothing to fear...." The Princess turned and saw her father. Her eyes opened wide. "I have missed you my daughter"
"Father!" She smiled warmly. She was too tired to move, but her smile conveyed the message clear enough. Her father grinned and held out his hand. Her eyes widened in joy. In it was a lotus flower, full in bloom. "It's beautiful!"
"It is for you and my heir" The Pharaoh said softly. The Princess reached out and took the flower. Her eyes watered as she grasped the meaning of her father's words. "If it is a male, he will have my kingdom... If you allow it"
"You are Pharaoh. I dare not refuse... And I would not deny my father what he has deserved for so long" The Princess looked down, blushing.
"You have served me better then any son could my daughter- and have been loyal to me when I have turned on you. I could ask for no greater gift" He replied softly. The Princess smiled as tears rolled down her lovely face.
"Thank you Father..." The Queen had seen the encounter and had ordered that a relief of it be carved. Construction of it was currently underway. The Princess looked at her mother and smiled. A suuden commotion caught their attention below. Pharaoh was heading to where prisoners were sometimes kept with a score of guards. The Princess frowned. Something was wrong...
"RAAMON! STOP!" Seris looked up and smiled bitterly. Pharaoh had saved him. The Vizor bowed deeply, not daring to go against his lord's command.
"I can explain-"
"No. Not this time. You are a liar and a traitor. You have found your last victum RaAmon. And for your crimes you shall die" Pharaoh growled coldly. The Vizor looked up in shock.
"What crimes have I commited my lord?!"
"Unjust imprisonment, murder and blashpemy. I know what you seek" Pharaoh grabbed his sword and it slid from it's resting place. RaAmon trembled with rage.
"Coward! Dare you strike an unarmed man?" RaAmon rose slightly.
"Cowards die as cowards RaAmon. You will now taste justice" The blade glistened in the light and swung in a perfect arch. At that moent a cloud of smoke filled the room. The sword slammed into something metal. The company coughed and all staggered out into the court yard. Seris fell to the ground in a heap, his ropes being cut shortly before the smoke screen was applied. The head guard looked into the smoke and growled in disgust.
"He's gone my lord" Pharoh helped his brother -n-law rise.
"Find him!" The Pharaoh spat on the ground, his eyes glittering with rage. He would not rest until the traitor had been found... Barbara tossed and turned, the dream fading. Yet, even as it did, another began...
Jon turned over in his sleep, muttering something about a pretty woman at the party. Outside a car pulled up to the hotel and stopped under his window. His snoring stopped and his blury gaze turned towards it. He shot up in bed. Suddenly the door was kicked in. Jon crawled back until his back was against the head rest. A tall figure loomed in the doorway.
"No! Keep away!"
"Hello Jonathan..." The shadow strode over to the trembling old man and lifted him from the bed. Jon cried out in fear. "Where is it?"
"I don't know what you're talking about!"
"The book Jonathan! Where's the book!"
"I'll never tell you!" Jon spat in the man's face. The man threw him agianst the wall.
"Search the room. It's here somewhere. I want this place turned upsidedown until it's in my hands! It that understood?" Several thugs filed in the room and began to throw various items about. A young woman leaned down by the bed and pulled out a duffle bag. She began to rummage threw it and smiled.
"I found it" She announced in triumph. The shadow turned.
"Excellent..." He glared at the still figure on the ground. "Take him..."
"Uncle Jon!" Barbara let out a loud cry as she fell from the couch. She stumbled to her feet. She went to her closet and pulled out a small case. She quickly put on the extra costume inside and leapt to the sill. She cast the windows open and shot out a line. She had to check on her uncle.

WoW!!!! What an incredible flashback!!! :D (i wish there was a face that combined those two) I could totally see everything in my mind's eye! I'm so glad the princess adn her father made up (and the fact that the step mom isn't a witch is a nice change from the norm) but you killed off the captian?! :( I dare not even ponder what this could all mean for present day counterparts.
Poor uncle Jon! It looks like Batgirl to the rescue! Yeah!
keep on posting! Don't leave us in suspense!!!

My gosh, that flashback was pretty powerful. I loved how you kept all the elements of ancient egyptian names in their true form. I also enjoyed how life has become somewhat more pleasant for the princess as the months passed. I can't wait to see what happens to the prince. He sounds like a cutie.

Bruce kept a sleepless vigil over his son. Tim peeped in the doorway of the Batcave's hospital room. Bruce was staring at Dick's still body. Tin silently crept up beside him and put a hand on his mentor's shoulder.
"He's going to be ok. I know he is" Tim said quietly. Bruce looked up and gave him a weak smile. Tim squeezed his shoulder. "Hang tight"
"Thanks Tim" The two looked at the sleeping young man and fell silent again. The deep scarlet hues on his chest were now dulled over from the scars. Bruce felt tears slip down his face. Alfred entered the room with gaze, bandages and some medical tape. Tim sighed heavily and turned. Dick stirred slightly in his 'sleep'. Alfred put some alcohol on a cotton ball and applied it to the wounded area.
"Hey! Watch it! That hurts!" Bruce stood up so fast that the chair toppled over. Tim whirled around and ran into the door frame. Alfred nearly keeled over from a heart attack and Dick nearly hit the roof from the intense stinging he suddenly felt.
"DICK!" Bruce was at the man's side in a moment. Tim whirled around unsteadily and then wobbled over to the bedside. Despite his intense pain, Dick burst out laughing. Tears streamed down his face from the harsh pins in his chest from his injuries. Alfred regained his balance and prepared another cotton ball.
"I'm sorry Master Dick but-"
"Yea, yea, I know. Just doing your job. I'll shut up" Dick winced as the cotton ball swabbed at the wounds. Bruce and Tim couldn't stop expressing they're joy over the young man's recovery. After the cleaning, Alfred tenderly wrapped the man's cuts in clean bandages. When Bruce had determined that Dick was fine, he began to drill him on what had happened. Dick told him about the incident up to the part he heard Barbara speaking.
"It was weird. She wasn't even speaking in English... It was like she was in a different world, or another time. I turned to see what was up and the next thing I know she's on top of me and I'm covered in blood, and my chest is killing me. Tim snapped her out of it and the last thing I saw was this look of incredible horror on her face- like she had no idea what she had just done. I wish you could have seen the look in her eyes Bruce- it was like she wasn't Barbara- like she was someone else" Dick looked down, as if deep in thought. "No- she was someone else... though I can't place who... just like last night..."
"Last night?" Bruce asked, confused. "What happened last night?"
"Oh! Ah..." Dick thought a moment, suddenly quite embarrassed. "Nothing important... She was just acting weird. Really out of it. That's all"
"Well it is important if you think it has to do with why she attacked you" Bruce replied firmly. Dick looked away from the man's questioning gaze, unwilling to humiliate his friend. Bruce glanced at Tim. "Tim go upstairs. I need to talk to Dick"
"But-" Tim's eyes widened in shock.
"Tim! Go!" Bruce commanded. Tim glared at him but obeyed silently. He knew better then to argue with that tone of voice. He had tried before and failed miserably. He shuffled out the door and into the main cave, Alfred close behind.
"Don't take it personally young Master... I have a feeling this deals with personal matters" Alfred patted the boy on the head and went about dusting some various items. Tim sighed loudly and flopped down in the large chair in front of the computer, flipping on the t.v. He could hear a soft murmur from the room. Then one loud exclamation before becoming completely inaudible. Tim sighed with disgust and tuned into the news program.
"You did WHAT!?!?!" Bruce yelled at the top of his lungs, his eyes flaming with rage. Dick shrank back slightly in the bed. He took a deep breath.
"I was drunk... Barbara was- well, I don't know. But she wasn't Barbara, I can tell you that much" Dick said uneasily. Bruce clenched the bed, seething with anger.
"Of all the things you could do Richard... If you weren't in this bed I'd have put you here myself" Bruce growled angrily. Dick shot him a hurt glare.
"It's not like I meant to Bruce... It just sort of happened" Dick replied firmly.
"Richard-"
"Bruce, Dick! Come quick!" Bruce looked over his shoulder. Tim never used that voice unless something really bad had happened. Dick looked nervous.
"Can you walk?"
"Yes"
"Can you fight?"
"I can try" Dick replied weakly.
"Then let's go" Bruce watched as Dick slid out of bed, and followed his son. They were definitely going to have a talk when they had time. Tim was staring wide eyed at the large screen. Summer Gleason's face was grim and her voice was solemn. Bruce sucked in his breath and Dick shifted uncomfortably.
"Good Evening Gotham. We have just been informed that the brother-in-law of Commissioner James Gordon has been kidnapped. We do not know who it is or what the circumstances are but we promise to keep you updated as things progress. At this time the Commissioner has no comment on the situation. However, it is rumored that he and Batgirl spoke earlier tonight" Dick was suited up and racing for his bike as soon as he heard about Jon. Bruce wasn't far behind.
"Where the heck do you think you're going?" He thundered. Dick leapt into his seat and put on the helmet. Bruce grabbed the handles. The Nightcycle purred softy as it's engine started.
"To help Babs... She needs me Bruce. I don't know what's wrong with her, but I'm going to find out" Dick said firmly. Bruce nodded, then released the bars.
"We'll be right behind you- just be careful. You're not in the best shape that you could be" Bruce said calmly. Dick flashed a thousand-watt grin.
"You know me- Mr. Careful" Dick flipped the visor down and sped off. Bruce took a deep breath and sighed, shaking his head. He knew his son and careful wasn't a word he'd commonly use to describe him.

Talia smiled coldly at the older man, who cowered in a corner. She strode up to him and leaned down, bringing them eye to eye. Jon trembled silently. "Hello Jonathan... You have no idea how long it took us to find you"
Again silence. Talia chuckled. She gently stoked the man's hair back behind his ears. "Oh, don't worry Jon. It's not you we're after... It's your darling niece"
Jon cringed and sank back further. Talia dropped to her knees. "Will you be a good little boy and tell us where she is Jon or do we have to get rough?"
Jon muttered something through his gag. Talia cast a sideways glance at him. She gingerly removed the gag. "What was that?"
"I said I'd rather have a root canal" Jon replied dryly. Talia snarled and slapped his face. Ra's glared at the old man and the woman. "I'll never tell!"
"That doesn't matter Jon" Ra's said with a cold smile. "You see, she will come to us... Or we will find her. It's only a matter of time before we have her... Your efforts to protect her are useless"
"What do you want with her?" Jon cried desperately. Ra's smiled cruelly.
"With this book I will be able to raise RahaMa'at... Then I will raise RaAmon... Together we will rule the world and restore it to it's original beauty" Ra's eyes gleamed in the dim light. Jon spat in disgust.
"You twisted, sick, son of a-" He was cut off by Talia's sharp hand across his face.
"We now need only the girl and my plans will be complete" Ra's began to laugh. It chilled the blood of all who where present and echoed down the halls of the museum. Before him lay the Princess, long at rest, a peaceful smile on her face.
Wow! Count me as another fan of the two Mummy movies. I just love the direction you are taking this in. :) With Ra's and Talia in the mix. And the Selina and Bruce scene (with them dressed as Batgirl and Nightwing respectively) was so romantic! And poor Dick, getting stabbed by a mind mucked Barbara, and then getting yelled at by his dad.

Actually, this is kinda far off from the Mummy plotline. In the Mummy two British explores/archeaologist/treasure hunters (Evy and Jon) and an American (Rick) go to the city where a ancient treasure id hidden. Along the way the American (a former soldier) meets an old comrad and it becomes a race. When they reach the city, they dig up a 'juicy' mummy. Then they find a book. The book is opened and Evy reads it and the Mummy, Imhotep, comes back to life. The other group stole thses jars and when he found the theives he 'ate' them. It's kinda hard to explain. Any way, when Imhotep sees Evy, he's reminded of his lost love and hunts Evy down to bring his lost love back. Then Rick, Jon, and another friend (who was supposed to guard the Mummy's tomb) go to save her. They do and the first movie ends (as they ride off a gold object is shining in the sunlight, introing to the next movie.) The Mummy Returns takes place I wanna say ten years later. Evy and Rick now have a son named Alex. The lost love of Imhotep is back and finds him, bringing him to life. Alex puts on a braclet that will lead him to the Temple of the Scorpion king. The person that killed him could rule the world and Imhotep went after Alex so he could find the Temple and rule the world. Jon, Evy and Rick go after Alex (with Ardeth [sp]) and along the way they find out that in a past life Evy was a Princess. They get to the Temple, they all fight, Rick kills the Scorpion King and they all go home happy. Jon loses his shiny gold sceptre but gets a huge diamond and Imhotep and his evil chick die. That's basically making a long story short, which is hard for me to do. If you really want to understand it, see the movies. They're a little gory but other then that they're pretty cool. Did that help?

You forget funny. Those movies have a ton of humur in them. One of my favs being the "this place is cursed" running gag in the second movie.
I totally cracked up when I got to Bruce's reaction.
If you weren't in this bed I'd have put you here myself
I could see him reacting that way too.
I agree with Sweetdreams - poor Tim - he gets left out a lot.
It looks like Babs and Dick to the rescue! Sheesh, what is with Ra's and his thing for Babs in fanfiction?

Barbara looked out from her post on the building across from the hotel where her uncle had stayed. Tears of anger slide down her face and dropped to the cement. She had talked to her father an hour before and the last press where leaving the scene. He had been pretty upset. She rose to her feet slowly.
"It's gotten pretty bad huh?" Batgirl spun around and saw two eyes watching her from the shadows. She sucked in sharply. The shadow came forward.
"NIGHTWING!" Barbara wrapped her arms around his neck, bursting into tears. Dick hugged her tightly, careful not to harm his tender ribcage. Barbara was shaking uncontrolably. "I thought- I thought-"
"I'm fine Babs" He whispered softly. She pulled back, her eyes still damp. He smiled gently, brushing back her flame colored hair. "I'm just fine"
"Dick, I' so sorry" She muttered quietly. Their eyes turned back down to the crimescene, where the last police car was finally pulling away. She balled her fists, then released with a loud sigh. "Why is all this happening?"
"I wish I could tell you Babs... Do they have any idea who could have done this? Or why for that matter... Jon doesn't seem to have any enemies"
"None. Dad left without a word. If he knows anything, he won't tell me"
"He's probably just as worried and confused as you are" Dick said softly. Barbara sighed loudly and the two stood silent. Her mind wandered through the past several days, trying to find some small clue. "Babs?"
"Hm?"
"You ok?" Barbara cast a sideways glance at her friend.
"Yea, why?"
"It's just..." Dick hesitated, then continued. "The other night you seemed... well, kinda out of it. And after the mesuem... It's just-"
"Dick I said I was-" Barbara stopped dead, a sudden thought occuring to her. She looked down at her emblem, and then back up to her friend. "Oh no..."
"What? What happened?"
"Dick, my scarab... my jade scarab I wore to the party! Did you find it?"
"Uh..." Dick thought hard, then shook his head. "No. Why?"
"It's gone!" Barbara said weakly. Dick looked at her in surpirse.
"And that's... not good I'm guessing?"
"Jon told me to protect it with my life! I bet whoever was after him was after it!" Barbara put her hands to her face. "Oh no... What have I done..."
"Do you think he stole it?" Dick asked quietly. Barbara shook her head.
"No, it was an heirloom!"
"Ok... I'll go back and look for it at my place. Just to make sure" He turned and disappeared into the shadows. Barbara took a deep breath and leaned over the buildings edge. She had gone every inch of the room... What could they have possibly wanted? It was at that moment that she remembered a conversation she had had with Jon while talking with him as they shopped for a costume...
"I wish I could read the writing on the sarcophagus... it's so beautiful" Barbara sighed as she looked over the Catwoman costume. Dick still had no idea what he and Bruce were going as. He had promised to let her know as soon as he did... She chuckled softly. If Bruce even convinced him to go. "Hey Uncle Jon, what do you think?" She held the suit aloft as if showcasing it. "You like?"
Jon grimaced and shook his head. "Too black... What about a Batgirl costume?"
Barbara grimaced and put the suit back. "Uh, that's ok..."
"Oh, come on! Try it on Babs!" Jon shoved the costume at her and shoffered her into a dressing room. After much bickering Barbara finally came out, glancing around nervously. Jon shook his head admiringly. "Looks nice"
"I think I'll pass" Barbara scampered back in and changed. She came out and sighed. "I don't know Uncle Jon... There's nothing here that-"
Her voice froze as her eyes landed on a beautiful immitation of an Egyptian Princess garb. She looked it over. It was just her size. She looked at her Uncle questioningly. He nodded. Several minutes later he was admiring his niece.
"It fits well... You only need a black wig and you'll look genuine"
"You really think so?"
"Of course..." Jon smiled and looked at the tag. "Heehee... Look at this, the heiroglyphics are actually genuine! Something you don't see often on tags..."
"You can understand those things?" Barbara asked curiously. Jon nodded.
"My sis Evy taught them to me..."
Barbara shook her head and it dawned on her. If Jon could read heiroglyphics, then maybe it had to do with the new mesuem exhibit... She put her hand to her chin and thought for a moment. What could possibly be so important that someone would risk kidnapping for? And what would it have to do with hieroglyphics? Suddenly, something her Uncle had told her hit home.
"The Book!" Batgirl screamed suddenly, her eyes lighting with the light of discovery. "The Book of the Dead! Of course!"
She turned towards the musuem. The sky was turning dark and clouds were gathering. Suddenly it all made sense. The book was at the museum and now someone had the key. Someone was going to read the book... Barbara pictured the dark man watching her in the shadows at the party. But why would someone want to read from the book? Who could he possibly want to bring back? Barbara's eyes narrowed. There was only one way to find out. Batgirl ran across the roof and leapt into the night, firing a line. Thunder sounded above as the Dark Damsel became one with the night.

Lightning forked in the sky above as Barbara landed silently on the rooftop of the Gotham museum. She crouched down, sending her large shadow across the cement, almost mimicking Bruce perfectly. She stood slowly. They had to be here... Barbara peered in through a sky light. Below all was peaceful... Or so it seemed. An odd feeling came over her. It was as if an unseen force was telling her to go into the museum, to look further. Barbara headed to the nearest vent and crawled in...

Ra's took out a silver vase and poured a large amount of water from a bottle into it. Candle lit the walls with an eerie glow, attached to various fixtures. He walked to the basin in front of the Princess and filled it with the water. Then he placed the book on the pillar and took out the scarab. He placed the jade into it's place, and the lock clicked open. He smiled.
* * *
Batgirl made her way through the museum as lithe as a cat. Not even a mouse could have compared to her silent movements. Slowly but surely Barbara found her way to the Egyptian exhibit. A tall figure in a robe stood in the middle of the room. Before him was the case that held the Princess, and a small basin filled with liquid. The room was illuminated by a thousand candles, and men in dark colors circled the odd scene. Barbara started to slip forward, when she heard something behind her- then all went black.
* * *
Talia stood above the fallen damsel with a grin on her face. The light danced on her features in a terrifying manner. She picked the woman up, then muttered, "We met again Batgirl- or shall I say, Barbara?"
* * *
Dick looked about his now messy room and sighed. Nothing. He sat on the edge of his bed and grabbed the phone. He dialed the number and waited for an answer. Sure enough...
"Wayne Manor-"
"Alfred, put Bruce on" Dick hated to sound rude, but they were racing against time- and time was winning by a long stretch.
"Dick?"
"Bruce, I found her"
"Thank God-"
"No, you see, she's..." Dick took a deep breath. He was dead. "She's not here"
"WHAT?!"
"But I think I know what this is all about"
"Talk" Bruce stated impatiently.
"Remember the amulet she wore to the party?"
"Yea"
"It was an heirloom... Something given to her by her Uncle Jon"
"Jon? The man at the party?" Bruce asked, suddenly interested. The two had held a nice long conversation before Tim was escorted off to bed.
"Yea, that's him... Nice guy"
"Dick- His sister was one of the top leading Egyptologists... If I remember correctly, he wasn't so bad himself... He was an expert at identifying the artifacts"
"O...k.... Good or bad?"
"Why was the amulet so important?"
"You're asking the wrong person" Dick said flatly. "I only took history as much as I needed to. The last time i learned about Egypt was in the Ninth grade"
"Yea, but has there been anything in the news recently?" Bruce hinted.
"Look, Bruce, no mean to rush and all, but if you know something" Dick said trying to keep his head on straight. "Barbara could be in real trouble"
"The Princess. The new exhibit at the museum... Jon told me an old legend surrounding the Princess, and her treasure"
"Wanna give me a quick version?" Dick asked hopefully.
"The amulet was supposed to open a book- The Book of the Dead"
"I thought that was just-"
"Supposedly the book was buried with her" Bruce kept on. "It's purpose was to raise a person from the dead... The person would return with great power, and the spirit of the dead would take over the body again, or blend with the host"
"So what if the book exists"
"I did a background check when I got home"
"My, aren't you a trusting soul" Dick said with a grin. Bruce grunted and decided to ignore the comment. Dick chuckled softly.
"Dick, this is no laughing matter. Do you have any idea who his father is?" Bruce was dead pan serious. Dick knew that tone- this was bad.
"Uh... No?"
"Well, let me put it this way- who would want to bring someone back from the dead? Someone- with great power? Power that if used..." Bruce waited a moment as the other end fell silent. After a long moment Dick replied in almost a whisper.
"You're kidding right? It can't be..."
"Dick, Barbara is-"
"I KNOW! I'M NOT STUPID!" Dick put a hand to his forehead, rubbing his mask. He wasn't sure how to take this... "Bruce, we have to get to the museum..."
"Are you suited up?"
"Yea"
"Tim and I will meet you there in ten minutes"
"I'll be there in five" Dick slammed down the phone and bolted to his window. In a swift, graceful leap from the sill he was on the ground. He sprinted to his bike hidden by the side and sped off into the night.

Wow. The bloodlines here are getting more crossed than something out of Star Wars. Can't wait for the next post.

If you're implying what I think you're implying, then Batman, Nightwing and Robin had better get there quick. Otherwise, Ra's will be a very hard enemy to stop this time. Or will it be Barbara? Really, really cannot wait to read more of this story!

Let me add another wow to the pile.
Wow.
Everything is in place for a wicked action scene - the storm, the creepy dark Egyptian display, the Book about to be used, the evil villian, henchmen and lovley assistant, the damsel in distres, and, of course, the hereos rushing to the rescue. I just hope Barbara isn't forced to merely be a d.i.d.!
Please post more soon!!!!!

I agree- the stage is set, and I can't wait for the next chapter!

Barbara groaned and opened her eyes. To her surprise, and horror, she found that she was dressed in an Ancient Egyptian garb. It covered everything- just barely. She was bound at the wrists and ankles to the coffin that housed the body of the long dead Princess. She turned her head and her eyes met that of an old foe. He smiled.
"Hello darling... We meet again..."
"What do you want with me?" Barbara hissed coldly. She struggled against her bonds, finding they were too strong for her to break at the moment.
"You are going to be the host for the resurrected Princess my dear" Ra's eyes gleamed in the eerie light. "And what a charming host you'll make..."
"You're sick Ra's... where's my uncle?" Barbara snarled angrily. If she ever got out of this one, he was dead meat. Ra's chuckled. Ube dragged Jon, bound by his wrists, out into the area and slammed a fist into his stomach. Jon doubled over. Barbara looked pained. "UNCLE JON!"
"It's all right dear" Jon panted weakly, smiling at her. "I'm fine"
"For the time being" Ra's said coldly, his eyes narrowing at the man. He walked over and stood above the man, an evil grin forming on his features. "You were going to squeal and ruin it all, weren't you?"
"You're dealing with things you know nothing about!" Jon said, his voice shaking. He looked pleadingly at the old man, in his youthful state. "Please! Don't do this! You will open things that should not be opened!"
"I know exactly what I'm doing!" Ra's snarled bitterly. He slapped the kneeing man before him. Jon cried out in pain. "Once I bring back the Princess and RaAmon, we will rule together eternally! No one will be able to oppose us!"
"Mad man... You deal with powers too great to understand... Seris knew the price for dealing with it, why don't you?" Jon looked down despairingly. Ra's chuckled and put his arms over his chest in a casual manner.
"What? You're not proud that your father will be the most powerful man in the world? No, the most powerful man of ALL TIME?" Ra's eyes glowed coldly, and with a fierce pride, as if victory were already his. Barbara stared in shock.
"What?" She said quietly, her look one of disbelief. Jon looked down, as if broken by the words. He felt ashamed and guilty- for not telling Barbara the full truth. In all honestly, he had done his best to protect her, but in the end it wasn't enough.
"You mean you didn't tell her?" Ra's acted surprised, mocking his son's failure. He turned to the woman strapped to the mummy's coffin. "I'm Jon's father- and the father of your mother"
"But that would make you-" Barbara looked at the man in horror.
"Your grandfather... Surprise dearest! We're related" Ra's looked as proud as a peacock. Talia scowled in disgust. Barbara felt tears welling up.
"NO! YOU'RE LYING!" A tear slipped down the side of her face. Ra's grin just widened, his eyes glistening from the pain he was inflicting. Ube chuckled softly.
"Oh? Then tell me-" Ra's paused for dramatic effect and began to walk towards the trapped woman slowly. "Why did your mother change her name? Why would she abandon to her homeland? Why didn't you ever meet your maternal grandparents? Evy was a smart girl- but not smart enough... You see, your mother died because she denied her blood... An old rival of mine found out about you and your little family... He gave your mother a drug- by the time I reached her it was too late. it caused her to fall ill and die- there was nothing anyone could do, and it appeared to be a natural death... I assure you that the man had a painful death"
"I can't belief I'm related to a monster like you" Barbara hissed coldly. She turned her face away from him. Ra's stopped several feet away from her, his eyes momentarily becoming distant.
"You know, I really did love your mother... Wonderful girl, intelligent, beautiful... Always resourceful..." Barbara looked at Ra's, for a moment she pitied him- for in that moment he was a man and a father- a father who had lost his little girl... But all too soon Ra's came back to the present. His eyes glistened again. "But now all that is done, and my dear- My Queen... We have a destiny to fulfill- A world to rule over"
"You're sick Ra's" Barbara said coldly, her heart hard once again. "Sick"
"No my dear... I'm idealistic" Ra's went over to the pillar where the book now lay open. The men fell in a ring, Jon stared on in horror. He began to read from the book in the ancient tongue. A white mist began to rise from the basin filled with water. As it grew, it turned into a bright lime green color. Barbara struggled again and cried out. Her breathing became difficult. She looked up, her eyes clouded and filled with the green mist...
The Princess was dragging her son down the hall, praying that she could escape. RaAmon had persuaded several guards to join him in an uprising against Pharaoh. Now they were all fleeing for their lives. They had taken the second hall, and the main gate. Drums sounded... They were getting closer...
* * *
Nightwing screeched to a halt outside the museum, leaping off his bike as soon as he could. Seconds later Batman and Robin arrived. Thunder sounded and rain began to pour down. The clouds above the building were a bright lime green, and lightning flashed repeatedly overhead. Green mists drifted out from the thirteenth story. Dick's eyes narrowed.
"There" He pointed. Bruce nodded.
"Let's go"
* * *
RahaMa'at entered a courtyard and stopped. She looked around desperately. They had to escape- or at least her little boy had to... Ma'atathor clung to her side. He was trembling with fear.
"Mama I'm scared" He whimpered softly. The Princess smiled down at him warmly and knelt beside her three year old son. She gently stroked back his hair, looking into his eyes- eyes that resembled her lover...
"It's okay sweetie... It's ok. You don't have to be frightened"
"I'd say you did" The Princess was on her feet and spun to see RaAmon smirking. She felt her blood boil and scowled at him. He began to walk towards them slowly.
"Traitor" RahaMa'at hissed coldly. The vizier laughed. The little boy looked at his mother. She looked down sadly. She leaned down and whispered into his ear. "Run... You must get away. I love you... Be strong my son, I will be with you always"
She kissed the boy on the forehead and squeezed his hand. The boys eyes were filled with tears, but he smiled bravely and nodded. Then he turned and fled down one of the halls. The Princess faced RaAmon, her face set with a cold determination. He would never lay a hand on her son...
* * *
Ra's lifted his hands high. Barbara had long stopped struggling, staring up at the ceiling with wide eyes, filled with a green mist, her expression blank. Jon looked on, tears streaming down his face. Talia and Ube watched in amazement. The candles seemed to flicker and glow stronger. Ra's voice grew louder, and more pronounced. Suddenly from the basin a loud shriek echoed and a figure rose from the water. It was transparent and blackish in color, yet it shimmered as if it were filled with thousands of tiny stars. The chanting stopped and Ra's looked upon the spirit of the Princess RahaMa'at.
* * *
The Princess pulled a dagger and ran at RaAmon. She rose it into the air, ready to deliver a deadly blow. With amazing speed RaAmon reached out and grabbed her wrist- Time stopped. The enraged eyes of the Princess met the calm eyes of the Visor. He smile coldly, twisting her wrist. She cried out in pain. The dagger clattered to the ground. The vizier pulled his sword.
"Good night Princess. You will soon see your lover again" RaAmon raised his sword. The Princess looked on in terror, her eyes wide. The sword was brought down in a perfect fatal blow- straight through the heart.
"NO!!!!!!!" RaAmon looked up. Before him stood Pharaoh, Basamut, Seris, and the heir. The boy's eyes were wide, his mouth frozen in the scream. RaAmon released the Princess. She fell to the ground. The guards poured in- the uprising had failed... But not before Pharaoh was wounded. The wound was one no doctor could heal- his daughter would die. The little boy ran to his mother's side, quickly followed by Basamut. The woman lifted the dying Princess into her arms, the boy wrapping his arms around his mother's neck. "Mama! Mama! Mama!"
"Shhhh love..." RahaMa'at smiled weakly, her eyes distant. She put a hand on the boy's head. Tears fell from her face. Basamut sucked in her breath, letting her own tears fall. "You are a good boy..."
"Mama, please... don't die mama..." The little boy cupped his mother's chin in his small hands. He whimpered again, tears falling freely. "Don't die...please mama..."
"Basamut is your mother now... She will take good care of you" The Princess felt her breaths coming in shallow breaths. Tears flooded her eyes. Everything was blurry, and it was growing dark. "Promise me you'll be good"
"Mama don't leave!" The little Prince cried out desperately. His eyes were wide with terror. A resolute look came on the Princess's face. Her voice was calm and firm.
"Promise me my son. Promise you will be good" The Princess's eyes met those of her son. He fell silent for a moment, the tears slipping quietly down his face. After a moment passed he replied.
"I promise... i promise I will be good... For you mama..."
"That's my good boy" The Princess put her hand to his cheek and smiled. "I must go now, but we will meet again... I... I..." The Princess drew in a deep painful breath, Death at her side. She let it out, her voice a soft, gentle whisper, "I- love- you"
The Princess smiled, her eyes shining with a bitter sweet happiness, her gaze still fixed on her side. Her hand slipped from her child's face, falling to the ground. The boy's eyes widened again, fresh tears falling.
"Mama?" No reply. Basamut looked away, her face full of pain. The boy whimpered, and touched his mother's cold face. "Mama??"
He began to cry. Basamut gingerly put the Princess's body on the ground, gently closing the eyes. The Pharaoh put a hand to his brow and let out a loud cry. Seris put a comforting hand on his shoulder. RaAmon looked on, a smug grin on his face. He still couldn't believe he had gotten out of his cell... Of course, power and wealth could get one a long way. The Queen looked up, her eyes blazing with wrath.
"You will die for this RaAmon... May your spirit never rest!" Basamut wrapped her arms around the young Prince- her son now, and held him close. She would be sure to tell him of his mother often, and that all of Egypt would remember the woman she was pleased to call daughter...
* * *
Ra's raised his hands, ready for the final stage of the resurrection when a tall dark figure shattered the window and slammed into the basin full of water. It sprayed everywhere, and the spirit disappeared with a loud cry. The wind and rain blew out all candles, and everyone was left in an even eerier darkness. Barbara snapped out of her trance and grinned, her eyes falling on the newly arrived guest. The figure, who had landed in a crouch rose up, and two pointy ears appeared atop a large shadow. Several guards screamed in terror. They knew all too well who it was.
"THE BAT! RUN!" One of the thugs yelled. Several started for the doors. Suddenly the glass doors shattered, and two other figures joined the shadow of the Bat. The men drew back. Ube growled bitterly.
"Wonderful, we have company..." He muttered softly. Talia's eyes flashed. Her voice was as sweet as honey and as cool as steel on an October night,
"And he brought friends"
"Let her go Ra's, we know all about your little plan" Robin demanded, his hands on his hips in the typical hero pose. The old man laughed.
"Really now?"
"You're really in for it this time Ra's" Nightwing replied coldly. "Theft, kidnapping, breaking and entering... if you want to add more to the list keep it up"
"And you just expect me to give up?" Ra's asked with a smirk, his eyebrow raised. Nightwing sighed irritably and shook his head.
"That would be too easy..." He muttered under his breath. Ra's clapped twice.
"Men-" He stopped, then shook his head. "You know what to do"
The thugs pulled out daggers, clubs and chains. Robin sighed loudly, putting up his fists. Why did they find the concept of giving so hard to understand? Batman narrowed his eyes and tensed, ready to move. Nightwing crouched low to the ground, his eyes on Barbara. She smiled at him.
"NOW!!!" Ra's screamed. The room erupted into chaos.

All right! Riveting action along side heart rending moments and some truly unexpected twists! Another amazing chapter in this great mix of batman and mummy mythos! I love the flashbacks - you're such a great writer and can see them unfolding in my mind's eye perfectly in a wonderful blaze of color and action.
Don't leave us hanging too long!

Ok, so even though I have never seen either of the mummy movies, you've done an excellent job of integrating them into a batman story. I cannot wait to see what happens next. Will Ra's succeed in bringing back the princess' spirit? Or will he be defeated once again by the Dark Knight? And you left it right before the big fight was gonna happen. Shame. I would like to see the next chapter soon.

For all of you faithful fans out there I thank you greatly. A long subborn streak of writer's block and laziness hit me, and I was uninspired. Then school began. Tonight I sat down and finally wrote this out. This isn' one of my more spectactular fight scenes, but I think it's suitable. I hope you enjoy it. There will be one more part to this as well as an epilogue. I promise they won't take nearly as long to put up as this did. Now, after much delay, Part 15 of Link to the Past- the Last Battle....

Lightning crackled in the sky above as an epic war waged below. It was a war that not only was between good and evil, but of old century old wrongs still overlooked by justice... But that would end tonight...
* * *
Barbara struggled against her bonds as she eyed the situation. Robin had sprung into action beside his mentor and every valiant leader, the famous Dark Knight. They were charging towards Ra's and his ghoulish cronies. Ra's was still howling in rage, desperately trying to pick up the tipped basin and recover any water he could. Talia was standing guard over the book- the sacred key around her neck. Ube was shoving Jon out the door and into one of the halls. Nightwing had seemingly disappeared. Barbara looked at Tim, who was busy taunting one of the thugs.
"Robin! Go after Ube! Get my uncle!" She screamed. Tim looked at her for a moment, then nodded. He threw a mean left hook, and the thug was out for the count. The boy smiled at the captive and sprang over several fallen men. In a flash he was out the door and after Ube.
Batman was easily picking off the thugs as they approached him one by one. A knee to the gut, a right fist between the eyes, a foot to the ribcage... It was too easy sometimes. Bruce sighed loudly and shook his head.
"Don't you ever get tired of this Ra's?" He asked, throwing a man with a chain over his head and into the wall. Batman shot a glare at the man in charge. Ra's rose up from the ground, infuriated, but a cool smile adorn his lips.
"Do you ever tire of your life Detective?" Came the cool reply. Batman flipped a thug over his back and into the ground. Batman stood still, his eyes narrowing.
"It's over Ra's"
"No Detective... It is only beginning..." Ra's picked up the book, rose a hand into the air, and began to chant in an ancient tongue. The remaining water in the basin began to glow a dark red hue. Bruce's eyes widened.
* * *
"Hey" A soft voice spoke softly, next to Barbara's left ear. Here eyes lit up as she turned toward the voice. "Need some help?"
"Dick!" She whispered softly. Nightwing smiled at her. He pulled out a batarang and went to work on the ropes. In the chaos the small detail was overlooked. Barbara kept her eyes on the battle. In a matter of moments there was a soft snap, followed by a second snap.
"There!" Nightwing stood in the dim light, and Barbara moved into a sitting position. He picked her up and carefully made his way around Talia. As he made a dash for the door, Talia spotted him.
"Father! She's getting away!" The woman turned from her guard a moment. Her father watched the two disappear. His eyes burned, then he smiled.
"No matter... I have the all power of the Book of the Dead at my finger tips! I need her no longer!" Ra's turned to face Batman as the last thug was taken down. Ra's clenched his fist and gazed at the Dark Knight coldly. He hissed under his breath. "And I no longer need you Detective..."
* * *
"Stop your blubbering you old fool!" A fist slammed against Jon's face. He winced in pain, but held strong. He glared at Ube menacingly.
"You have no idea what you just unleashed- it must be stopped"
"The only thing that shall be stopped is the Detective's meddling. He has toyed with my Master for the last time" Ube said triumphantly. Jon's eyes widened. "He has the Book of the Dead, and all of it's power under his command! He will reign supreme over all! And the Earth shall finally be destroyed!"
"That's what you think!" A small, chipper voice came from behind Ube chimed. Ube whirled about in time to receive a small fist to his nose. Blood gushed forth and the man let out an enraged howl. Tim slammed a foot into the Ube's stomach, knocking him away from the captive uncle. Robin quickly cut the ropes binding Jon's hands. He looked up at the middle aged man. "Ok, message from Babs. Get out. Now"
"I can't... He has the book! He could destroy us all!" Jon said frantically. Tim grabbed his arm, pulling him towards the stairs.
"Come on! Bruce can handle it!"
"No... I'm the only one who can read the writing in the book! I descend from the line of Seris! I can undo the curse that my father has put upon the Earth... I must... Please..." Jon looked at the boy. Tim stared into the man's eyes, then nodded.
"Good luck" Robin said quietly. Jon smiled, then took off up the stairs. Tim turned back to Ube, who was glaring at him bitterly. The boy smiled. "Let's rock and roll"
* * *
Nightwing set Barbara down gently outside the room. She giggled softly and looked up at him, her eyes shining. She cupped his face in her hands and kissed him quickly. "My hero"
Dick smiled back and blushed. "It was nothing... Anything for you- Princess"
Barbara's eyes dimmed and she looked down. "Please don't call me that"
"Ok... Babs..." Dick gently lifted her chin. Their eyes met. Barbara smiled and they leaned forward, their lips meeting in a long, tender kiss. Several peaceful moments passed and the two separated. Tears streamed down the lady's face.
"Look, I haven't been myself lately... but I'm ok now" Barbara began. Dick rose a hand, a smile on his face. He chuckled softly.
"It's ok, you don't have to explain anything... I know..." Nightwing helped his lady to her feet and the two gazed at each other. Barbara giggled and blushed. Dick wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug. Barbara was careful to avoid his still wounded chest. They two were content to just hold each other.
Suddenly the ground began to tremble. Sirens sounded in the distance. The two pulled apart and looked around in shock. Barbara looked back towards the exhibit in horror, her eyes wide.
"He's trying to destroy the Earth!" Barbara cried, over the rising winds. Dick looked at her, a sinking feeling in his stomach. Barbara turned to him, her eyes sad. "I have to stop him"
"I know... Go on... I'll be waiting for you..." Dick touched her face gently. A bittersweet smile crossed his face. "Good luck My Lady"
"I know you'll be with me My dear Knight" Barbara quickly kissed Dick again and then turned back to the room, running at full speed. Dick watched her go. Then he slowly turned and went the way that Robin had gone.
* * *
Bruce, with wide eyes, took several steps back as a large creature rose from the blood colored mist. Talia stared in horror and shrank back from her father. Ra's chuckled madly, his eyes wide and filled with eerie green flames. "BEHOLD! THE CREATURE OF CHASTISEMENT! I COMMAND YOU, SERVANT Of ANUBIS! ATTACK! KILL THE INFIDEL!"
The creature was well over seven feet tall, and bore the body of a lion and the head of a hippo. It's talons were sharp and it's eyes gleamed with fire. It let out a terrible roar and charged at Bruce. Bruce sprang out of its path, and began to run. He never backed down from a fight, but something told him to run. This was no ordinary fight- and this was not an ordinary creature. It was the Hound of the Underworld. It devoured the guilty, condemning them to everlasting torment.
The creature turned sharp and pursued the bat. Bruce jumped off a glass case, trying to place several items between the creature and himself. But it was all in vein. The creature was too fast, and in an instant, it slammed a massive paw into Bruce. Batman hit the ground and rolled, his back cut and bleeding. The creature sprang, pinning the man to the ground. Ra's laughed again. The creature growled, bearing its sharp fangs. It roared and rose its massive paw, talons ready to strike.
"KILL HIM!" Ra's screamed, the eerie light reflecting off him made him look like a mad man. Talia shrieked in terror. The paw came hurling down towards the Bat. Bruce closed his eyes.
"STOP!" A cool, feminine voice cried out. "Hound of the Underworld! Hear me! I come before thee! Hear me!"
"What?!" Ra's spun around in fury, his eyes falling on Barbara. The paw slammed into the ground and the creature looked up. It looked annoyed, but somewhat patient. It stared at her and a growl like noise came from it's throat. Barbara stepped forward into the room, trembling.
"Horrible creature, chastiser... Listen to my plea... He is innocent. It is said that you are wise and fair in judgment! Let him be tested! Let the scale decide his fate! Should he prove true spare him! Should he prove false, devour him! But first try his heart by the scale!" Barbara cried out loudly. Ra's growled angrily and started towards Barbara, pulling a knife from a smashed case.
"I have gone too far to be foiled by a brat!" He hissed bitterly. Talia watched her father and then looked at her niece. Her eyes narrowed.
"We will meet again Barbara Gordon..." Then she turned and fled, just as her father had instructed her to do, should something go wrong. The creature eyed Barbara a moment, then looked down at Batman. It growled, then backed off of the pinned man. A scale appeared before the creature.
"Now Hound of Chastisement- test him!" Barbara cried. Ra's came up behind Barbara, eyes filled with bitterness and hatred. The Hound lifted a blood soaked talon, placing a drop of blood on the scale. A feather appeared on the other side. Ra's pulled his arm back, raising the dagger to strike. The scale began to balance, and the fate of Batman hung in its balance.
* * *
"Had enough tough guy?" Tim bounced back and forth on his feet. Ube wiped away the blood from his nose, his eyes narrowed. He snarled angrily.
"Do you ever stay still small fly? Stop for one moment and I will crush you!" Ube shook his fist at the youth. Tim stopped moving for a moment. Ube threw a fist at him. Robin leapt back, sending two feet into Ube's gut.
"Opps, too slow!" Ube hit a glass case. Tim ran towards him, leapt over his head and grabbed a random vase. "Say good night Ube"
"What?" Ube looked up. The vase crashed down on his head and Ube went black. Tim laughed and danced around the fallen body guard. Nightwing entered the doorway and leaned against it. Tim turned and smiled proudly.
"Look what the cat dragged in!" He pointed at Ube. Dick shook his head.
"He really didn't know what hit him, did he?" Dick joked. Tim laughed.
"Sure he did! A vase! Right before I smashed it on his thick skull!" Tim replied. Dick began to laugh. Tim pranced over and hugged him. "I'm glad this is over"
"It is not over! Merely delayed once again!" A cool voice hissed. Tim spun around to see Talia helping Ube up. Both were glaring at him. Talia grabbed Ube and they began to flee. She called over her shoulder. "We will meet again! And next time, you won't be so lucky!"
Tim started after her but Dick put a hand on his shoulder, holding him back. Dick's eyes were emotionless as they watched the two disappear. "Let them go... There'll be a next time... There always is... Let's go find the others"
* * *
Bruce held his breath as the drop of blood and feather were even. Barbara gave a sigh of relief. The creature looked at Bruce and growled softly, as if apologizing. It turned into a cloud of red mist and faded away. Batman sighed heavily.
"NO!!!!!" A loud cry came from behind Barbara. She whirled around to see Ra's towering over her. Her eyes widened. Bruce was on his feet, but he knew he's never make it in time.
"BARBARA!"
"You may have defeated my creature! But I will walk away glad, for I will at least have your life meddling woman!" The knife plunged towards Barbara's undefended stomach. She froze. She was helpless. She stared into Ra's cold, murderous eyes and screamed.
"NOOOOO!!!!!!" Suddenly an arrow pierced the wrist that held the dagger. Ra's cried out in rage and pain, releasing the weapon. Barbara sprang back and the dagger flew to the ground. It clattered on the cold floor. Barbara sprang to the floor and grabbed it, keeping its point at Ra's stomach. Ra's looked up. Bruce was now beside Barbara, his eyes narrow. Barbara turned to see who had fired the arrow. Standing on one of the broke cases was her Uncle Jon, bow in handle, ready to fire at will if needed. She smiled at him. Ra's glared at Batman.
"It appears you have won again Detective... As usual... I won't be a poor sport. I concede... This time..." Ra's eyes were glowing with anger as they fell on Jon. "Well, son.... I applaud you. Congratulations. You're finally a hero. You finally amounted to something. You stopped your father from world domination and restoring the Earth... I hope your happy"
"Oh, believe me father, I am" Jon approached the small group, several feet from Ra's. Jon's eyes burned brightly. Ra's glared at Barbara.
"And a very nice job on your part- I should be glad to call you my granddaughter"
"I prefer you not" Barbara replied coldly, the dagger remaining ready to strike. Ra's smiled bitterly. He glared at Bruce. Jon tossed the bow away, folding his arms against his chest.
"Until we meet again Detective..." Ra's turned and began to walk away. Jon looked at Barbara a moment, then stepped forward. He cleared his throat.
"Father, wait-" Jon called after Ra's. Ra's stopped, and turned to face his son.
"Yes?"
"Here... I want to give you... THIS!" Jon balled his fist and slammed it into Ra's nose. Ra's reeled back, cursing loudly, placing his good hand to his now bleeding nose. Barbara stared at Jon in shock, then smiled. Jon glared at Ra's. "Don't mess with my niece... Or our past... Remember that... Or next time I won't be so nice. I don't ever want to see or hear from you again"
"Fine" Ra's turned and limped off into the dark. By now the sound of sirens was loud and clear. Jon took a deep breath and watched his father disappear. He sighed loudly and shook his head.
"Shame it had to end that way... It could have been so much better..." Jon shook his head sorrowfully and turned to Barbara. He smiled. "Aw well... It's good to see you well niece..."
"Likewise Uncle Jon... Likewise" Barbara threw her arms around her Uncle's neck and squeezed. She closed her eyes and smiled. Everything was going to be ok...

Barbara looked up at the sky shivering. The museum was silhouetted in black against a gray sky in a light drizzle. Brilliant blue and red lights flashed about and police were everywhere. Jon was several feet away talking to her father. Montoya was laughing as Robin entertained her with his battle with Ube and Bullock was with Batman near the paramedics. Nightwing had disappeared shortly after the situation had cleared up. Bullock's voice drifted across the air.
"So, let me get this straight- this supernatural creature just suddenly appeared and attacked you?" The detective's voice was a little more then skeptical. Batman nodded as Bullock cut the gauze that wrapped around his body. The detective chuckled. "They're never gonna believe this back at the station... Then again, I've heard weirder..."
Barbara pulled the police blanket tighter around her. She had given her dad the statement and patiently waited while Uncle Jon gave his side. Of course several details would have to be tweaked before the media got a hold of the story... The book was on a one way trip back to Egypt with an old friend of Jon's named Ardeth. It would be watched over by a group of descendants loyal to the old line of the pharaohs. The key had fallen from Talia's neck, and would replace the book in the museum, with several friend's of Ardeth watching over it as well as the Gotham Knights. If it could be helped, the book would never again be used for a dark purpose- or any purpose. Barbara trembled again, the wind blowing.
"Hey... Rough night?" Two strong arms wrapped around her and Barbara smiled. She turned her head and smiled at Nightwing. She leaned against him and sighed, closing her eyes.
"Nah- nothing out of the ordinary... You?" She replied softly. He chuckled.
"Some guy wants to rule the world and had to be stopped... The usual..." He replied with a smile. He closed his eyes and leaned his head against hers. She giggled, opening her eyes. "I guess we lead boring lives, huh?"
"I guess so" Barbara said warmly. Dick opened his eyes. She turned, wrapping her arms around his neck. They held each other's gaze for a moment. Dick smiled and leaned in. Barbara met him halfway and the two joined in a tender kiss.
"And then that creepy no good father-in-law sent this monster after..." Jon's eyes traveled to the two young lovers. His disgusted look faded and he smiled. "Aw... Now would ya look at that? Cute aren't they Jim?"
Jim gave a rather nervous look to Jon. He liked Nightwing- he really did... He just wasn't sure of he liked the idea of Barbara seeing him.... Batman walked up beside Jim, silent. Bullock and Montoya moved around their car, Bullock on the passenger side. Robin, who was trying to contain his fit of giggles, was beside Montoya. Jon sighed and muttered something about love. Barbara pulled back and smiled at Nightwing. He put his hand to her face.
"See you around Ms. Gordon" He said softly. He raised his arm. A loud bang sounded and a hook sped off into the night.
"I'll be waiting my sweet knight" She replied softly. Nightwing smiled at her, then turned and flew into the shadows. Barbara sighed quietly, her eyes filled with stars. Bullock shook his head and got into the car.
"Renee! Come on! We still got half a beat to go before we turn in and I'm tired already! Say good night and let's move!" He yelled gruffly. Renee rolled her eyes and smiled at Robin.
"I'll see you around amigo" She tousled his raven colored hair and then got in beside her partner. She started the car and waved, then she drove off. Robin pranced over to Jon and Bruce.
"So now what?" He asked softly. Jim shrugged.
"We can't prosecute him... I guess we just leave him alone. He won't be back for quite some time. I doubt he'll ever bother us again" Jim said, motioning to himself and Barbara. Batman sighed.
"I wish I could be sure"
"Well, he seems to be deterred for the moment... I think we'll have some time to recover. But... He'll be back... He always is..." Jon responded in a dull voice. His sparkling eyes dimmed for a moment. "But... We should celebrate in the mean time... Babs darling?"
Barbara turned and smiled at her uncle. "Yes Uncle Jon?"
"There's an upcoming dig in Egypt and I was wondering if you'd like to come along?" Jon asked brightly, his good nature returning. Batman signaled to Robin and started to walk away.
"Oh, I dunno Uncle Jon..." Barbara looked at her father. She would love to take him up on that offer, but she couldn't just leave her father alone...
"Well, will ya think about it?" Jon asked hopefully.
"Good night Jim" Batman boomed softly. Jim looked towards the shadows and nodded. Robin grinned, gave a salute, then followed his mentor.
"Good night old friend- and thank you..." Jim sighed in relief and leaned against his car. He looked at Barbara for a moment, then grinned. "You know, you always said you wanted to see the world- and you really should know more about your mother's side of the family..."
"Dad?" Barbara asked, have in hope and half in shock.
"I see no reason you shouldn't go- Gotham won't fall apart if you're gone for a few weeks... I'll find something to do..." Jim shrugged casually. Barbara grinned at her father, then there her arms around his neck. Jon smiled at his brother-in-law and winked. Jim returned the grin. Jon put his hands in his pockets.
"Don't worry Jim... She'll be in good hands..."
"It's getting late, we should be on our way" Jim gently released Barbara from her hug and opened his door. "Everyone ready?"
"Am I?" Barbara asked, her voice exhausted. She climbed into the back. Jim got in and started the car, Jon went around and entered the passenger side. "I thought this day would never end!"
The car started and headed for home. Jon leaned back in his chair, staring up into the sky, which was now clearing up. Several stars were coming out, and the city was quiet. Jon smiled and looked back to his niece. "All's well that ends well... Did I ever tell you about how Ardeth and I met?"
"No Uncle Jon... I don't believe you have" Barbara said, leaning on the back of her uncle's chair. Her eyes were tired but happy. "Where'd you meet him?"
"Well, let's see now... It must have been at least forty years ago. It was my first dig in Egypt, and I picked his pocket. He was quite angry and followed me home. Home was at an old dig site just up the river from the Valley of the Kings...."

A man called out in a loud voice as the door to the long forgotten tomb was uncovered. Jon and Ardeth, who had been talking, looked up and ran to where the man was standing. Barbara looked up from the table in the tent where she had been sitting pouring over maps. She ran a hand across her brow and sighed. She had just gotten over another dizzy spell and rose to her feet slowly. Like Uncle said-Gotta drink more liquids... She thought with a smile.
She moved to the pole that was supporting the tent door flap. Jon was talking in an excited tone with the man and Ardeth smiled at her. He approached.
"It appears they've found the Captian's tomb"
Barbara smiled. "Good"
"Thank you for your help- especially with what happened in Gotham... We can't thank you enough..." Ardeth shook her hand and returned to the dig. Barbara smiled proudly. She was excited too- it wasn't everyday she got to go to Egypt, let alone find a lost tomb...
Barbara returned to her seat. She sighed happily as she picked up a pen and began to write. She thought of the man she was sending her letter to and smiled again. The one thing she missed more then her father most definately was Dick. The two often exchanged letters, and so she began:
My dearest Knight,
Egypt is a wonderful land, filled with both the past and present. As you gaze into the Nile, you can transport yourself back in time... We finally uncovered the Captian's tomb. He will return to Gotham and reside eternally with the Princess he loved. A fitting end to this case... Things are going well. I keep getting dehydrated, at least that's what Uncle Jon says. I know you're concerned, the doctor says I'm fine- just the heat and sun tend to make me dizzy... And give me a nasty turn of the stomach... Funny thing is I've been inside most of the day and I still feel sick to my stomach and get dizzy bouts. Maybe I do need more water... Oh well. I'll be fine. Don't worry about it- I know I shouldn't tell you but you'd find out from Uncle Jon if I didn't, then worry even more. I miss so much... How's Tim? Still annoying and cute as ever? And what's Alfred up to these days? Looking after Bruce and his new girlfriend- Ms. Selina Kyle? Heehee... How are the wayward lovers faring? And how's my dad coping? Sorry so many questions, but I miss quite a bit these days.
Barbara looked up. Jon was calling her. She smiled.
I regret to say I must go.
Much love,
'Barbara
She got up and laughed. "Coming Uncle Jon!"
