Azrael vs Batman: who wins?

There have been debates on how Terry would do against different opponents, like Spiderman and Bruce. But I think the closest battle would be against Paul Valley's Batman.

Both have limited experience (compared to Spiderman and Bruce), both have powerful suits around them, and both called themselves Batman. So who'd win?

I think it's kind of tough to say, actually. Terry's suit is definitely more powerful, but Paul's got the System which makes him much more of a warrior. Terry's got quickness and agility, Paul's got size and strength (and brutality). And, of course, both have a whole arsenal of "toys" at their disposal. What do you think? Who comes out on top?

I'd say Terry. I read the Knightfall novel and saw how brutal Jean Paul can be, but it takes more than strength to win. I think Terry's got the upper hand in this one....

True. But Paul also proved he could think. This was shown brilliantly in Knightfall 18 when Paul busted Bird, Trogg, and Zombie out of prison in order to track them to Bane. That had me saying "Wow".

Then there's all the training that the System brought him. It was as though he'd had years of martial arts training. His fighting skills aren't unlike Wayne's. Paul's clearly a better fighter than Terry.

thats true. after all, jean paul beat bane, who broke the bat. remember that. id root for terry ofcourse, but i dont know, azreal would be a really tough fight. i'd say terry would probably win, but just barely. it seems terry is really smart and is really good at beating his opponents at the last second, by thinking quickly and pulling off some kind of trick. plus hes got the suit. plus, terry beat the joker. now thats something.

Yeah, that was impressive. I know Paul's been up against the Joker, too, but I didn't read that storyline, so I don't know the specifics. I have a trading card of the meeting and know that Paul beat Joker up pretty bad, but not much other than that.

My avatar is of Azrael when he was Batman. Also, the quotes at the bottom of my post are from the Azrael Batman.

His real name's Paul Valley. He underwent "mind programming" as a youth to prepare him for his role as the assassin Azrael. After his father, the previous Azrael died, he took over the role. He crossed pathes with Batman soon after when going after a weapons dealer named Lehah (who killed Paul's father). After Lehah's defeat, Batman allowed Paul to come back to Gotham with him. Robin supervised his training at that point. And, at about that time, Bane arrived in gotham.

Not too long after, Bane broke Bruce's back and Bruce chose Paul to takeover as Batman. Paul's mind programming (The System) proved too much for him, though, and he was overly violent as Batman. When Bruce asked him to give it up, Paul refused. After recovery from his back injury, Bruce was forced to retrain in order to stand up to Paul. With the help of Nightwing and Robin, Bruce defeated Paul and took back the mantle (which he handed to Grayson soon after).

I'm not sure how much of this you knew, but these were the events that surrounded Paul Valley's introduction. He reassumed the Azrael role and at this point is a member of the "Bat-team". I haven't read many comics in the past few years, so I'm not sure how he patched things up with the others. But it seems like he's getting along with them fine and has a better grip on the System. I don't have any pictures of his current costume, but someone else might.

azrael, he beat bane, with his pumped up battle suit though, i cant see terry beating bane with his suit, so id say azrael.

Paul was pretty composed when it came to facing Bane in their "Round 2" battle. But then, all it took was severing Bane's venom link to completely change the course of the fight. Terry would have been able to do the same.

That's an interesting thought, though. How would either Paul or Terry do against the current Bane that's no longer on venom. With no obvious weakness, Bane would be quite a force to stop.
