Avid Tiny Toon fans may recognize the fish in "Fin 'n' Catty" from the short "Elmyra's Spring Cleaning". Note also this is an early appearance of the character that is most often just called "the McKimson cat"--did he ever have a name in his shorts, or on the model sheets? I only recall him from two other cartoons, "Swallow the Leader" and a short with Foghorn Leghorn, where at the end, fed up with his incessant mouth, he pops Foggy one and hollers, "Ahhhhhhhh, shaddap!"
Surprised, actually, that "Have You Got Any Castles?" aired uncut, with the band sequence. I'm presuming those were celebrity caricatures, though that doesn't stop censors (cf. poor Rochester).
Crossing a buttercup with a milkweed ("Farm of Tomorrow")--one would think that would make buttermilk. That's a pretty fun short, actually...one could write those sorts of jokes all day. Like: cross an anaconda with an eagle and get a feather boa. Or a steer with a jumping bean, for self-flipping burgers.... ;)
Actually, the cat in Fin N' Catty is different from the McKimson cat, he's sort of a Claude Cat prototype. He appeared in numerous Jones cartoons throughout the 40s.
The McKimson cat appeared in four or five cartoons, another one being "Early To Bet." Looney Tunes Theater called him Capastrano Cat when they played "It's Hummertime," probably because he was nameless and his first appearance was in "Swallow the Leader." I myself prefer to use the name "McKimson Cat" or "McKimson's Cat."
