Pre-production has begun for the first Slinky film (http://www.animated-news.com/archives/00000308.html).
Yes Slinky, the springy toy that is fun for a girl and a boy!
The 1980s are back with toy commerical cartoons.
Remember the Rubik's cube cartoon (http://www.x-entertainment.com/articles/0798/2.jpg)?

What the H***!What do we need a Slinky movie for(I shall make them walk the plank for this)? Is it going have powers, talk, spit up,go to grandma's house?I can understand trying to make the toy popular again but a movie and tv show ,I don't see the point.I hope this is aim at younger children because I can't see something like this being for adults. This goes to show you that they will make a movie about anything aaarrrrggghhhh!I think I need some grog .

What's really sad is that when this is released theatrically, only critcs and little kids would see it because there is no way people would want to see this.

My Trailer for "Slinky: The Movie"
(Mailman stops by home with small package)
Mailman: Who on this green and brown Earth would pay for a....
(checks package)
Mailman: ....$800 slinky
(Slinky busts out talking)
Slinky: Actually, I'm worth $1200, and the owner purchasing me is.....
SLINKY: The Movie Coming Soon Whenever We Say So!
Could be worst than that! :D
Whoever green lighted this needs to be shot. Repeatedly.
here's an idea for a plot:
3 Slinkeys get purchased by owners, and now, the Slinkeys visit Aztec ruins to reunite, and face the ultimate challenge, the stairs that make up the ruins themselves....
But seriously, we shouldn't make fun of it until we see it.... It could be good... (even if it's about a spring toy)
On another note: any word on that pac-man movie yet?

Slinky as a character in Toy Story = Good.
Slinky as the star of his/her/its/whats own TV series = incredibly stupid.
I mean, come on, it's an inanimate object that doesn't even look like anything alive! :p
*HITS HEAD OUT OF STUPIDITY* I'd almost rather see a Barbie show - at least THAT toy could logically fit into a cheesy TV world that would make some sort of sense.

I feel your pain. And I will ESPECIALLY feel your pain when SCIFI takes it off the air in January. Rev up your VCR's everyone, and starting asking for the DVD's/VHS's for Christmas.
BACK ON TOPIC, KINDA: You know, while I already knew that TV/movie execs and Toy Companies could be this blithering stupid, this reminds me of something that PROVES how stupid they can be and how they can market ANYTHING:
http://www.x-entertainment.com/articles/0798/1.jpg
Something so bad that you want to see it. Kinda of like watching early Godzilla (and some newer ones) and other b-movies, even if they not shown on a generic movie/horror host show or getting riffed by an average joe and his two small robots :p
Check it out at the excellant site www.x-entertainment.com
I cannot wait till it becomes public domain in a few decades so anyone could make fun of it horror host style-No, wait, yes I can, I want to live a long life, but when that time comes, break out that wine we've been saving all this time since now, becuase it will be time to party!
Hmm, I wonder when Nintendo's "The Wizard" goes out to the public...starring the guy who played the main character on the depressingly moralistic "Wonder Years"!........

I think it would had been better if it was an animated movie with Rex, the villain from Toy Story 2, or Bo Beep.

Looks like we're making an early "I Love the 2000's"
But first, Alextoon with the "What the $@#%?" of 2003.
Alextoon: In 2003, production for "Slinky: the Movie" began and had amazing results. Everyone thought this was a stunt pulled by SNL, but in reality was true.

Would you except a Weebles movie? They, unlike Slinky or Monica Lewinski won't go down. :D
I'm not saying this is the worst idea in the history of commercial nostalgia run-amuck, but it nears the peak. Now, I think what they really need to do is add "Springy, the Springfield Spring" to the film as the evil villian and ratchet up the crossover appeal.
Anyone interested in the live action Pac-Man movie should head over to http://planet-megaman.com/mmmovie and check out the fake trailer to a live action Megaman movie. It's surprisingly good in its presentation mixing CGI and costumes as well as taking a Spiderman - the Movie like approach to the character. Nothing like either of the defunct kiddie cartoons that ran in syndication or WBkids.

Wow...a Slinky movie.
Is it just me, or they starting to go overboard with bringing back 80s properties? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind 80s properties making a comeback. It just seems like every toy/cartoon ever made in the 80s is coming back/being revamped for today's audience, sometimes with averse effects.

The movie might as well exist, but the animated series had better not go through. There is just not enough a toy, such as a slinky, can do for it to be worth its own series.
only critcs and little kids would see it because there is no way people would want to see this.
Since when are critics and younger children a different species? The lack of the word "other between "way" and "people" makes it seem like you implied that.

Were there any other toys that existed in the 1980s that were not used in cartoons, but have made a comeback in cartoons or movies in the last five years?

Sheesh, if your going to rely on old ideas almost entirely instead of mixing new and old stuff coming out (the Slinky movie is proof of this) , try something that ACTUALLY successful, like the Centuarions or M.A.S.K., or a million other toy lines.

The power of Vitamin F!
I read a Ren and Stimpy comic that had Spider-Man VS the Powered Toast Man. Apparently Spider-Man was "stronger" because his pits smelled awful. :D

Following that logic, That stink guy in Dragonball (You know, the guy Krillin fought and won on the account that he "Had no nose"?) would of tooken out Majin Buu in one punch.

No they were just refering to the smell not the acutally strength of the character. He just created a strong stench...

Let me get this straight here
Somebody decided to make a movie that revolves around a large spring-like contraption that just rolls down stairs and just fasinates young kids because of the colors and the way it moves...
...
...you know, I think this is going to make the Rubix cartoon look like Lion King material...

first Slinky film
I hope that does not imply that there will be more than one. One is enough.

If the slinky was not a successful toy, then why did people who did not even care about such stuff have one? I guess those other two could have been more successful, but only because they had television series.

Hey, come on it could be awesome! They could make the Slinky like Happy Time Harry.
Kid:Come on Slinky, roll down the stairs!
Slinky:Kid, I just had a bottle of vodka last night, I ain't doing any rolling today unless you know some hookers.
Wait, you know, "rolling" is also a slang term for doing ecstasy. So, when they say that the slinky "rolls down stairs...wait a minute, is it Slinkys that roll down stairs or is that Log from Ren and Stimpy?

I just read a little article about the movie from the Rogers Video newsletter. Check it out:
According to USA Today, H2V Entertainment is producing a computer animated movie based on the popular toy, Slinky. The movie is tentatively called, "Slinky: The Magic Quilt" and will be completed by 2005. H2V CEO Henrique Vera-Villanueva said, "the main character is a big Indiana Jones-type Slinky. This character is on an adventurous quest, but it's a character-driven film, like Ice Age".
Hmm...Slinky/Indiana Jones. Slinky/Indiana Jones... It could work! :p
It could work, then again the Arizona Cardnials could win the Super Bowl.

This reminds me of the story J. Michael Straczynski, creator of "Babylon 5" and one of the original "Real Ghostbusters" and He-Man universe writers, told in the great cartoon history book "Saturday Morning Fever":
Apparently, LEGO approached JMS and asked him to write a pitch for a LEGO animated series. Angered by the idea that LEGO thought that a half-hour cartoon could be based on their product, he made a satirical pitch about Hispanic children who find magical talking Aztec LEGOs in an Aztec pyramid.
LEGO actually took this at face value and wanted to go ahead with the idea.

Tim, don't unintentionally give anyone ideas. (I think Barbie had 2 DTV's already: one about Swan Lake and one about the Nutcracker.)
As for the Slinky movie... I'm speechless. I feel like I'm insane. Or maybe I'm normal in an insane world. (Only the truely crazy would go through w/ a slinky movie.)

Assuming the report mentioned in the first post is *true* (this *is* the Internet we're talking about...rumors and all!), I think the possibility of stuff like this existing is probably one of the reasons why the FCC decided to ban toy commercials-posing-as-programming from kids' TV between the late 60's and early 80's ;-)
