Have you ever been deceived by exquisite box/cover art or clever packaging? What games do you feel have somewhat deceptive packaging from the past or the present?

the opposite, I almost never played Magaman 2 cuz it's box art looked stupid. I'm glad I got over it.

the box art for Darkened Skye looks fantastic, but i hear it's about collecting skittles.

I've never been duped by box art, but I HAVE been duped by game reviews in magazines (sources I've learned to stop trusting so much)- as a result, I bought Shaq Fu. That's right, Game Players gave it a 77%. Looking back, the $5 I payed for it seemed really steep. :p Scratch that, I HAVE been duped by box art, but not the cover. Virtua Fighter 2 for Genesis looked pretty decent from the screenshots on the back- I thought it'd be a semi-3D fighting game with merely sized-down Genesis graphics. Boy, was I wrong on that one...

Not really, but I did hold off on buying Grandia II because the box art on the PS2's version looked far better than the already released Dreamcast version.

I heard the PS2 port was really buggy.

Clever packaging. The UMK3 port for SNES claimed to have 23 immediately playable characters, new backgrounds, awesome graphics.

Well the graphics were pretty good (same as MK3), but they didn't mention that everything else was cut - animations, backgrounds, finishers, voices, etc. Lucky I only bought the game for $10
