There's a new half hour Duck Dodgers episode this week, about Dodgers having to go through what the PPG had to go through in "Film Flam". Should be good. Review here.

The commercial was funny with the "Pluto Nash" ref. Sounded like Tom Kenny as the director. Always a good sign.

I'll be back later with thoughts and VA's.

Hooray for bad John Wayne impressions!

So, Vernon is a good name?

He looks like George Lucas!

LOL! They transplanted the Warner Bros. set! All we need is Yakko, Wakko, and Dot.

I love the Cadet's replacement.

Dodgers is a good actor. :anime: :D He can really ham it up.

Wasn't expecting the Clementine song. :)

Love the Banjo scene! Great writing there!

Love the Cadets reactions to the scenes.

Hehe, it's making fun of its own show and the audience! ^_^

Classic Looney Tunes gags, gotta love 'em!

Wasn't the evaporator joke from the original Duck Dodgers? I swear it sounds familiar...

Yay! Wizard of Oz reference!

The sword going out reminds me of Mr. T vs. The Slayers online webcomic.

I like the Astro-dragon. He's cool.

Figures Dodgers would wanna work in the food industry.

LOVE the Pluto Nash slam!

Another classic Looney Tunes gag.

The movie theater looks Jetson-ish.

"Duck Dodgers: the Movie! Starring Bugs Bunny." That was the best joke in the entire episode! ^_^!!!

CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!

Here's the highlights of the thousands of highlights of "Hooray for Hollywood Planet": Happy Cat, Tom Kenny as Vermin (he looked a little Joel Silverish),the love scene, Dodgers' Charles Boyer impression, Grey De Lisle as Nina, the countless "post" refs, "Pluto Nash", "Baby Huey", the lightsabers, Cadet's scream (Good Job, Bob), and the ending.

Overall, BEST DUCK DODGERS EPISODE EVER!!! Out of 5, I give it 5.

Don't forget the William Shatneresque acting by Dodgers. I do think this would have been a better 11 minute short but it was good nevertheless.

HAPPY CAT!!!

This episode was the best yet. Absolutely hilarious. I don't know how any Looney Tunes fan could possibly not like this episode, except maybe for the "talking heads" thing.

Not as good as "Shiver me Dodgers" or "Green Loontern", but good nontheless. Highlights included the television shows opening, Dodgers putting Nina down "gently",the kiss, the desert scene also I believe I saw a little bit of continuity from last week's episode with Dodger's wearing a similar outfit to what he wore in last week's episode, the arena scene, and the premiere scene. 8 stars.

I really like that episode. The whole "Kill-The-Hero-While-Recording-It-On-Flim" bit was good. Bugs upstage Daffy even though he didn't appear! I thought that was really funny that Marvin will make a lot of money out of the movie.

The Stars In Tinzel Town Have Become A Planet, and Are Now Welcoming the Duck Dodgers Episode Review of "Hooray For Hollywood Planet" to the red carpet.

You know, I really have to say, Duck Dodgers does half hour shows better then 11 minute shows. "Shivers Me Dodgers" was a good example, but this and "The Green Loontern" are the full extents of that power. And while "The Green Loontern" had more action and plot, "Hooray For Hollywood Planet" shines on non-stop hilarity, to Dodgers comments on the TV shows he's watching (by the way, I think I saw a few meta-refrences in here, from "Lousy Budget ((The budget for Duck Dodgers was cut down some so a lot of the scenes have kinda been reduced to "talking heads")) to Dodgers dissing the script about the Queen of Mars making him King ((which almost happened in "To Love A Duck")) among others), Dodgers talking to Vermin on the phone line about the movie, Dodgers trying to get in character at the meeting ("But he's playing himself!"), Dodgers demands for the movie, the recasting of the Cadet as the sidekick to this female assassin (espically Dodgers first cut of kicking her out, and then the next one where the Cadet helped saved the day), Dodgers trying to fall in Quicksand and Vermin actually doing it, Dodgers taming the beast in the Gladiator set and defusing that bomb, and of course Cadet reworking the script and having the Duck Dodgers movie star... Bugs Bunny!!! (and I thought there would be no refrence to him in this show. I guess this is one secret Joe and Bob wanted you not to hear about). Anyway, this fantastic episode gets an A++. Keep it up Dodgers, you're doing great.

Apparently, Bernie Bernstein from "The Powerpuff Girls" put on weight, grew a beard and changed his name to Vermin.

Happy Cat looks kinda like Totoro.

Bugs Bunny's name showing up on the screen was so unexpected, it made me spit out my gum.

Hey, Io', thanks for correctly anticipating my answer to wrenchien, (though I always use complete sentences, almost having become an English teacher instead of a VA -- Can ya imagine??).

The response to this ep is truly surprising to me because the funny thing is: I was rather distracted Saturday AM & thought the whole thing was kinda dull.

:daffy: "Idiot!! It wath thenthational, ath uthual, -- ethpecially me. Get off the thell phone wunth in a while, willya?!"

By consensus, Daff, it seems you may be right. Guess I'll have to rewind & rewatch.

***

For those who care:
My official entry to ASIFA's annual Annie awards will be for the upcoming story entitled "Enemy Yours", an 11-minute epic (half the show) which I think airs this weekend. Hope you all like it as much as the rest of this first season's eps.
Choosing one cartoon was so difficult; I went with the one recommended by Spike & Tony, but I've never done a show for which there were so many excellent possibilities.
All I had to do was select & edit my favorite 5 mins. to send back to the DD offices, per their request. I spent a week rewatching all the shows, & editing scenes featuring Dodgers from "Enemy Yours" (which features yet another minor but classic character).
Just to clarify this, the nomination would be for playing Duck Dodgers alone (not DD & :marvin: , etc.).
Again, I'm very grateful to the DD folks & WB in general for their decision to propose me as a nominee & for their follow-up support.
If I make it, it will be the 1st time Daffy has ever been nominated for anything!!

:daffy: "I'd love to throw Joe another inthult here, but I'm jutht too choked up..."

Of course, I may ultimately go un-nominated, but it's a still great feeling to be considered.
After all, Mel Blanc himself never won any such award!! (Unbelievable!!)

Let me also thank the "LT:BIA" folks (in case I never get to make a speech) who have likewise entered my name (& chose the scenes themselves) for consideration in the film category, as Daffy and separately as :bugs1: .

:daffy: "Thpoilthport-th...!!"

Thanks too to all of you for your ongoing encouragements. Your comments, pro & con (mostly pro, of course) mean a lot to me.

We go back in the booth to record the 2nd season this week.

:daffy: "Hey!! Who thezth the rabbit ith marketable an I ain't?!"

I don't see that episode anywhere in the CN November schedule. Perhaps it'll air with the rest of Season1 next year.

You're welcome, Joe! You and Bob do such a fine job. As well as the rest of the VA's, too.

Aren't there only 13 episodes in Season One or something? Hmmm, I think that "Enemy Yours" will air along with "Dodgers Quits" in the November Premieres Duck Dodgers premieres this month. Because The next episode is "To Catch A Queen"/"Back To The Academy" and that is episode 12. Then again, who better to ask then Joe. So am I right Joe?

I'm not Joe but I'll try to help you.

"Aren't there only 13 episodes in Season One or something?"

I remember Matt or somebody else saying that they'll air another batch of Dodgers Season1 next year.

Here's the rest of the November episodes according to the "CN Premieres November" thread.

"The Queen Is Wild; Hooray for Harry Boyle - Saturday, November 8th, 11:30 AM
Back to the Academy; Dodgers Quits - Tuesday, November 18th, 8 PM"

No sign of "Enemy Yours." there.

Yeah but Matt made that a month ago, and it's changed now. CN's Duck Dodgers Schedule for November 8th states the new episode is "The Queen is Wild"/"Back to the Academy". According to Matt's, "Back to the Academy" is part of the 13th episode, but it's really part of the 12th. So here's what I think

- "The Queen Is Wild" (The Martian Queen gets revenge for Dodgers rejecting her love by kidnapping the Cadet) and "Back To The Academy" (Dodgers probably has to retake the courses at the Academy again for some reason) will air on November 8th, 11:30 a.m.

- "Dodgers Quits" (Dodgers probably quits being a space captain for the Protecterate and tries a diffrent job) and "Enemy Yours" (The one Joe submitted for an award) will air on November 18th, 8 P.M.

- "Hooray For Harry Boyle" was a suggested episode that got turned into "Hooray For Hollywood Planet" (which aired last week). Either that or they're saving that episode with the other "lost segment" called "Pet Peeve' (which was originally thought to air with "Shiver Me Dodgers" until it was revealed that that particular episode was a half hour long).

Corrado

Whatever you say.

I wonder what's going to air the 15th.

DianaGohan
11-04-2003, 01:38 PM
The 15th is when they start reairing the already played episodes, starting with "The Trial Of Duck Dodgers"/"Big Bug Mammas" episode (the third one aired, the first one produced. In fact, "The Trial Of Duck Dodgers" is Duck Dodger's pilot episode). The episode airing on the 18th is the "Lost" episode of the Season saved for the weekday premieres (Like Teen Titans "Car Trouble, which airs on the 11th I believe).

Corrado

I have to remember to save this for my talkback this week, rather than going to TVTome and getting the wrong title.

All I can tell you is that Spike & Tony consider it part of the 1st season. But an error may have been made, or a sked-change they weren't told about.
Also, may I add, very timidly, that CN's schedules may have changed since announced... Haven't they already?

--& guess what else, Diana?
On the "Enemy Yours" tape S&T gave me to edit, "Duck Departure" was on the same bill. So who knows what's up?!

But thanks for the possible lead, gang.
I'll call the office, double-check & let you know.

More notes:

First off, the November 18th episode, will air at 8:05 because of "Clone Wars."

Also, according to TV Guide, starting this Friday, the Duck Dodgers encore showing at 7:30 has been replaced by "Dexter's Lab." Personally, I'd rather see last week's classic than "Dexter's Lab."

This is according to the November CN Press Release:

Tuesday, November 18: Duck Dodgers: "Back to the Academy" Dodgers must keep up his Protectorate Captain's certification by taking a yearly course. He runs up against a tough space academy drill sergeant and his own disdain for authority in the process. "Duck Departure" Fed up with mounting "space hijinks," Dodgers quits the Protectorate to work in the food service industry, where familiar character types somehow tend to resurface. Begins at 8:05pm (ET/PT); preceded by Star Wars: Clone Wars.

So according to that, "Back to the Academy/Duck Departure" is supposed to air then. I think the press release is wrong.

This thing is getting screwier and screwier.

When you watch Austin Powers, you don't call Austin "Mike" in your review or analysis of the film, do you? (Except in the context of analyzing Mike's specific performance)
I'd say you have a good point, except that in DD, Daffy, Porky, and Marvin essentially play themselves. There is no real distinction between the character of Daffy Duck that we are all used to and the character of Duck Dogers. So insisting that nobody can ever call him Daffy is just playing semantics.
