Hey,

I was this movie last night and I must say that Disney is gonna have a rough time topping this movie. Shrek was one of the most hilarious and entertaining movies I've seen in a long time. Belive me, the Gingerbread Man interogation scene is worth the admission price, full or matinee. The finale was also very nciely handled. What suprised me most was the fact that the theatre was filled (and I mean packed) with more teens and adults than children. And everyone was laughing. I definatly recomend this movie to any animaiton fan. This is already on my DVD pre-purchase list!

That's pretty cool, most people treat anything animated (3D or traditional, although moreso for traditional cel) as kiddy fodder. Darn, now I really want to see it!

Well, I finally went to see Shrek this afternoon, and it certainly did not disappoint! In fact, I'd have to say it exceeded my expectations! I have really enjoyed Dreamworks movies, and I agree with Dick that Disney really should worry.

Disney has obviously been trying to find a new kind of format to hook audiences, surrendering the traditional song and dance format to go with the more comedic Emperor's New Groove and now coming out with Atlantis. I think it is in reaction to Dreamwork's successes, who haven't had to rely on the song and dance animated movies to bring in the dollars at the box office. While Disney will never abandon the format that has made them so much money, it is a good time to be an animation fan. Shrek's success will undoubtedly breed more animation geared towards a mature audience as well.

To add, I think the computer animation in this movie was top notch. I can't wait for the DVD to freeze frame some of those scenes with alot going on in them to see just how many hidden jokes they threw in there. I am sure it is just as layered with hidden jokes as any Disney movie.

Another thing I liked about Shrek that isn't being mentioned in other reviews or posts....THE MUSIC. I was especially delighted to hear the cover version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" towards the end. Leonard Cohen makes some of the best music ever (I don't know how many of you have heard of him, but he's been making music since 1967.) but often he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. To hear one of his songs in such a big movie was very rewarding.
