Hello! Watched the Star Wars Trilogy again last night - and I simply cannot BELIEVE that Puley Lukey and The Joker are both done by Mark Hamill!
It's always been my opinion that Hamill in Star Wars is only just on the right side of lame (the famous bit in Empire when Vader reveals he's Luke's dad, and Luke starts screaming "NOOOOOO!" really pushes his acting ability to the limit!) - and yet whilst watching 'BB: Return of the Joker' last week the The joker, as always, gave me the chills - all because of Mark Hamill's absolutely SUPERB vocal performance! That shrieking laugh is absolutely brilliant - and, to me, is THE single defining element that makes the animated Joker (like so many of the other animated villains, not least Mr Freeze) the definitive article in the entire Batman franchise.
One of Hamill's triumphs is that, despite all the restrictions placed on the Joker by WB "because it's a kids show", is that we REALLY believe that this Joker IS a homicidal maniac - and deserves the almost reverential fear that he elicits from Bats and Barbara Gordon in "Return of the Joker".
Mr Hamill - thank you. I take it all back! :)
PS - please tell me it's the same mark Hamill, and this whole post hasn't been one big, embarrassing mistake...
