View Full Version : Pinky, Elmyra, & THE Brain, you could tell the writers did not want to make this.

Look.
Okay towards the end of the original series there was an episode where Brain is having a dream about his carrear going down the tube. The executives start messing with the show and completly taking it away from its roots to slightly spike the ratings.
(ex. the dukes of hazard, Erckle, and a stupid robot)
Fast forward to Pinky Elmyra and the Brain, If you listen to the theme song you here stuff about the lab shutting down (Refrence to the original show being canned? Quite possible.)
then the last lines
Now Pinky and the Brain share a new domain.
"IT"S WHAT THE NETWORK WANTS WHY BOTHER TO COMPLAIN."
the Earth remains their goal .
"SOMETHINGS YOU CAN"T CONTROL."
They're Pinky, Elmyra and The Brain.
I personally think that the staff put these things in there to vent without fear of the Network coming after them. (Notice the way P&B are forcefully kicked out of the WB building, almost like they where fighting something)
Anyone else see this?

..."That's Edutainment"--one of the better PE&B shorts, IMO--basically contained the message that if a show is too intelligent and highbrow, it's the first to get cancelled. D*** right...look at what UPN did, for example, in fall 1996--they cancelled the brilliant Nowhere Man for Homeboys in Outer Space and an entire lineup of mostly-minority sitcom drek. http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/other/11doh.gif http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/other/mblah.gif http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/puke/bashy.gif

Yeah, Pinky and the Brain did not deserve this.
On a side note: Why wasn't Elmyra going to Acme Looniversity w/ the other Tiny Toons? No doubt it was the stupid network again.

You are right but you can't fight blame network execs their brains sometimes fall out since they are only the size of dust mite and all:D You should blame the people that put them in charge.
As for Elmyra not being in school yhea I noticed that but the bigger question is what happened to Montana Max? Did she forget all about him?

I really get tired of having to see good quality TV sacrificed on the altar of the lowest common denominator. The great shows that make it are very, very few, and that's why I only watch about 3 hours of TV a week. The rest is utterly forgettable.

Yhea I find myself watching less and less TV each year. I can usally find better entertainment from my video collection then on TV. It truly is sad but if this keeps up eventually the average joe will stop watching and the industry will crash.

Fun facts: Peter Hastings, the main guru behind Pinky and the Brain for years (and did a damn good job of it) was told that the executives decided that the show needed to be changed, more or less because the show was too intelligent. Hastings turned in the script for "You'll Never Eat Cheese In This Town Again" (the episode where Brain dreams his show starts to suck because of executive meddling), followed by his resignation notice. So yes, you were onto something.
Also... ever watch the two "Elmyra Show" bits on Tiny Toons? Those had Elmyra out of Acme Loo with her parents. Seems those were attempts to give Elmyra her own show even back then. Seems the execs had a weird fixation on Elmyra...

Faboo, most execs are clueless when it comes to the creative end and should stay out of it.

they've stuck in plenty of hidden messages, like the ones in the opening theme and in the ending credits. it doesn't suprise me that they would put in stuff like that. it reminds me of the simpsons where they say good things about other networks (stone philips!) and totally say bad things about fox.

Then again, Cree Summer, the voice of Elmyra, is IMO a hot little number. Have you ever heard one of her TV/radio spots for Durex Sheik condoms? http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/funny/orgdrool.gif
