There is an article in the new TV GUIDE (May 26 - June 1) about June Bugs. TV Guide picks their 20 favorite Bugs cartoons. There is also a short "The Bugs You Won't See" article, in which they talk about the 12 cartoons that were pulled.

Here is what TV Guide picked as Bugs' best:

1 - The Wild Hare
2 - Tortoise Beats Hare
3 - Wabbit Twouble
4 - Super Rabbit
5 - A Corny Concerto
6 - Little Red Riding Rabbit
7 - Baseball Bugs
8 - What's Up, Doc?
9 - The Rabbit of Seville
10 - Operation: Rabbit
11 - Rabbit Seasoning
12 - Duck Amuck
13 - Bugs and Thugs
14 - To Hare Is Human
15 - What's Opera, Doc?
16 - Show Biz Bugs
17 - Hare-way to the Stars
18 - Baton Bunny
19 - Blooper Bunny
20 - Carrotblanca

How did "Duck Amuck" get on the greatest Bugs list? He only appears for a few seconds!

Yeah, I said the same thing, "Duck Amuck" is a Daffy cartoon, it would be like saying "Odor-able Kitty" is a good Bugs cartoon.

Jon~

Who in their right mind would put "Baton Bunny" as one of the twenty best Bugs' toons ever???? I guess it's a case of "This is TV Guide's mind on drugs..."
:p :p

That's one weird list... Should include: "The Old Gray Hare", "Hare Trigger" "Hair Raising Hare", "Bugs Bunny Rides Again", "Heckling Hare", "Falling Hare", "Devil May Hare" and a number of others... "BATON BUNNY"!?!?!? Sheesh!!!

Let's not expect a whole lot in the line of intelligence (or knowledge, for that matter)

Tim --

I think that someone at TV Guide looked at Joe Adamson's book on Bugs, saw that he picked it for his list of best cartoons and figures "what the hell, let's go for it."

Anyway, that's not even the worst part of the list -- the worst is that, according to TV Guide, 10 percent of the all-time best Bugs Bunny cartoons were made between 1990 and 1995. I like "Blooper Bunny," but even it's derivite of the Freleng-Maltese buck-and-wing gag. And "Carrotblanca?" Jeez....

Yeah, it's all for the sense of hype only.

I'm surprised they didn't list three of their favourite Bugs Bunny cartoons as "Oswald's Baseball Game", "The Hound And The Rabbit", and "Winner By A Hare" :p

I personally don't think it's such a bad selection, but IMO it has more B cartoons than A cartoons. TV Guide is entitled to their own opinions. We probably all have very different "Top 20" lists. I guess mine would include (in no particular order)

Super Rabbit
Baseball Bugs
Haredevil Hare
Bully For Bugs
Rabbit of Seville
What's Opera, Doc?
Knighty Knight Bugs
8 Ball Bunny
Hare Trigger
Bugs Bunny Rides Again
Buccaneer Bunny
Captain Hareblower
Sahara Hare
Hare Trimmed
Bewitched Bunny
Bugs and Thugs
Ali Baba Bunny
Bugs Bunny Gets Da Boid
Hare Ribbin'
Rabbit's Kin

Additional Contenders:
A Wild Hare
Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt
The Heckling Hare
Herr Meets Hare
Hare Conditioned
Bunker Hill Bunny
Ballot Box Bunny
Devil May Hare
Beanstalk Bunny
Show Biz Bugs

There were zero classic Yosemitie Sam cartoons in their list.

The article says that all 12 of the banned cartoons are from before 1950. Really? What about Horse Hare?

In their description of Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips, they use the word "who" when they should have used the word "whom."

The editors of TV Guide got to have their own private screening of the 12 banned cartoons, but they agree with Cartoon Network that the common man should not have access to them. How smug.

Here are my 20 favorties, in no particular order:

Rabbit Fire

Rabbit Seasoning

Duck Rabbit Duck

What's Opera Doc?

Rabbit of Seville

Mississippi Hare

Beanstalk Bunny

Bully for Bugs

Hare Trigger

Buccanner Bunny

Wild and Woolly Hare

Wild Hare

Heckling Hare

Tortoise Beats Hare

Little Red Riding Rabbit

Super Rabbit

Wabbit Twouble

A Corny Concerto

The Big Snooze

Bugs and Thugs

The TV Guide "Close Up" in next Friday's listings mentions that they will be showing the 3 Bugs feature-length compliation movies. Is this true?
