It is mid-way thgough most seasons of High school football... so I'm just wondering if we have anybody who plays or played in their high school carrers? I bring this up because it's almost Homecoming Weekend for a lot of high schools (at least in my area) and my team, being 2-2 is one win from going to the playoffs for the first time since the state of New York remade the playoff scheme in the 1970's.

"What in the name of high school football?!" I never played football in H.S. but I was in the band so I got to see the home games. Not once in my 4 yrs. in the band did our team go to state, but they have in the past, so I guess I'm just unlucky (or lucky... the band going to state, while probably fun, would be quite an ordeal to prepare for/go to!). One thing that always bugged me about living in a small town, though, is that everyone made such a life-and-death issue with football- "Oh, if my son doesn't make quarterback it's like a death in the family." That is SERIOUSLY what somebody said. It's like if your precious child isn't in every single play the coach is a jerkwad, a cheat, and doesn't know what he's doing (actually, when I started high school, the school got a new coach and immediately everyone was ready to judge him against the beloved old coach. Unfair, really). Then there are those that only acknowledge football and volleyball as the fall sport; cross country and girl's golf are shunned. Add to all this disgruntled hicks that base their whole life around football and overanalyze every single play. Seriously, people, it's HIGH SCHOOL. After this is college football and after that is the pros, so put things into perspective. If it weren't for that, I'd probably have enjoyed watching the game a little more. Oh well.

I was a bando as well. Our team rather well...we weren't all that great, so we never did anything major. In fact, we started coming at odds with the coach because he didn't want us playing as much anymore because we were too "distracting"....pfft. Some of the guys in band were on the football team, so that was rather neat. It's a great atmosphere, playing in the band, checking out the football team and all that, getting to see friends from school...wonderful time to bond and have fun....or to feel like you were wasting about three hours of your life - it always differed with who you asked!

Good luck with your team Jester!

:raises hand: Former jock here. I played JV ball my freshman year and Varsity my sophomore but Junior year was a really dark time for me with a lot of probelms at family athome and I since I only did it for recreaton more than anything, I gave it up. I thought about making a comeback this year as I'm fit as hell now...but I opted to prep for college, train myself and chase girls :D.

Played HS football, tailback. Good times, too. I hope your squad makes it to states...been there once, and it was awesome. Win or lose when its all on the line this is when it rocks. Good luck. And knock the snot outta of somebody will ya?
