Hey cartoon fans,
I know there were posts like this awhile ago, but since I don't want to annoy you people by returning old forums, I'll just start over. I think the title of the thread should explain to you what this topic's about

anyway...

Catfish from "Misterjaw" (but I don't hate him)

Scrappy Doo

that little rabbit from one of the Bugs Bunny cartoon where the wolf was trying to eat the little rabbit, but Bugs saves him by that "how many lumps do you want"? gag. Although that was funny

You forgot Gabby Goat.

I would also include the proto Bugs Hardaway rabbit from "Hare-um, Scare-um".

Herman the mouse from the Herman and Katnip series used to get on my nerves.

(I like the little rabbit from "Rabbit's Kin", though.)

I've only included characters from the classic era. I know there are a lot of annoying characters from animated tv shows, but there are too many to list and I've forgotten most of them, anyway.

The daughter quail in "Quentin Quail" irritates the heck out of me; that voice! No Baby Snooks fan, I.

All the Kids Next Door seem pretty annoying (based on the one episode I saw, which was on the television while I was waiting for my car to be serviced -- there were kids watching it).

Well, as for classic cartoons, the only character I find truly annoying is Little Blabbermouse, boy, whenever his cartoons pop up, I'd rather change the channel. Probably 'cause I consider him an extremely childish version of Sniffles (who I happen to like, BTW)

As for modern cartoons, I could go on and on with the list...

After his first two or three cartoons, I can't stomach Pepe Le Pew. And the three fairy blabbermouths spoil a lot of "Sleeping Beauty" for me. Betty Boop's little dog in her later boring cartoons is pretty tiresome, too.

What about that short Arab from ALI BABA BOUND?

In my opinion he, like Gabby Goat mentioned earlier and Wentworth earlier were meant to be annoying to generate big laughs.

I think the most annoying character in the context of classic animation, IMO, is that ducking from the classic H-B Tom and Jerry and, as mentioned before, Hoot Kloot.

There were only three Roger Rabbit shorts made because Eisner of Disney and Spielberg of Amblin' Productions both wanted the cartoons to play before thier own company's features. They were both stubborn men and couldn't compromise for an amicable solution, so the RR shorts were cancelled. A forth cartoon, which took place in a restaurant starring Roger as a waiter, was halted in mid-production. The disagreement between the two men was also the reason that a Roger Rabbit sequel was never made.

I have a newspaper article about Disney's Florida animation studio from 1990 that mentions a half dozen planned Roger Rabbit shorts, though the only titles I can remember offhand are "Waiter, There's A Hare In My Soup" and "Beach Blanket Bunny".

Hmmm. I'm still trying to think on this one. I was never too annoyed by Scrappy-Doo (except maybe in his earlier years when he had that Brooklyn accent). I can't really think of too many annoying Warner Bros. characters. Overall, I'd say the most annoying cartoon characters would be all Pokemon. I'm also getting irritated about how popular Yug-i-o is these days.

I heard that they originally planned to make cartoons based on the posters seen in Maroon's office. One was about fishing.

I've heard of the dispute between Amblin and Disney over the cartoons. It seems like it would have been an easy thing to fix - make two cartoons per year, one for Amblin and one for Disney.

I kind of wish that they could have finished the cartoon seen at the start of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Among theatrical cartoons, I have always found Pepe LePew to be annoying (with all due respect to the late great Mr. Jones).

Among made-for-TV cartoons, Plankton from "SpongeBob SquarePants." But I'm probably not too good a judge of TV cartoons as I don't like and don't watch most of them. I like "SpongeBob."

And oh yes - any Anime character. :)

I'm pretty sure WB still considers them separate characters, and continued to recognize the existance of Honey even though they stopped using the character. And I remember seeing a Chuck Jones limited edition cel with Bugs and Honey that came out after Lola was created (though, it's been mentioned before that Jones supposedly disliked Lola Bunny).

In LA FEAT'S DEFEAT, the character of Deux Deux was an eager young rookie rather than his usual laconic self voiced in a Senor Wences imitation by Pat Harrington Jr. So Don Messick, in his only appearance in a DFE theatrical (He provided incidental voices for several Saturday AM DFE series in the seventies), gave Deux Deux an eager, young voice that seemed more appropriate. Given the obligatory Latin inflection, the characterization was similar to Daws Butler's Baba Looey- although the latter is supposed to have been based on Desi Arnaz!

When first seeing the short as part of the Saturday AM Pink Panther package, that confused me to no end. This may be one of the few, if not only instances of a regular character being given an entirely different voice (and voice artist) to fit a specific story. The Italian-accented Sylvester in A PIZZA TWEETY PIE doesn't really count, because he's still voiced by Blanc and has the same basic inflection- if not lisp. :sylvester

Art Davis' "Catch as Cats Can" is a very funny cartoon, but one that usually is a little unsettling due to the voice he gave Sylvester, which sounds a little like Mel Blanc's early Barney Rubble voice ... if Fred had just hit him in the head with a bowling ball.

Sylvester was still a developing character when Davis used him, and in two of his first three Freleng cartoons he had no dialogue at all. But the voice had been established in "Life With Feathers" and "Kitty Kornered," so Artie's decision to use the same design but a different voice probably is the reason this cartoon never seems to make it into regular rotation, despite the great mouth magnet/vacuum cleaner/Bromo Seltzer gags at the end.

(Sylvester does Jimmy Durante in Davis' "A Hick, A Slick and A Chick" but that's not as unsettling, because the end gag calls for a Durante impersonation)

SO that WAS Don Messick....Other voices besides him, and series regulars Pat Harrington Jr.(Inspector), Marvin Miller and later Paul Frees (their boss), were little-knowns (to me) Helen Gerald, Mark Skor, and Diana Maddox plus familiar names like Hal Smith, June Foray and (I believe) Daws Butler.

I agree on Sylvester in a PIZZA TWEETY PIE.

Among classic characters, I never liked the Popeyes with "Shorty" so I'll go with him. As for made-for-TV characters - Minute Mouse. I hated - repeat, HATED - the "Courageous Cat" series. And it never seemed to get replaced or rotated off the station's schedule, unlike other better TV superhero toons like "Batfink" and "Mighty Heroes." The distributor must've offered it at bargain basement prices. No wonder!
