Well I just finished watching Nadeisco on Friday (dubbed,) and I rewatched the last disk today. And well I have to say that I did enjoy it. I actually started watching the series a year and a half ago, and I ewas immediatly drawn in by the silly, blatent way it refrenced and parodied so many giant robot anime cliches. I mean the charecters really came to life for me (especially Gai, may he rest in peace. :( ) And finally the show within a show Gekigengar, and its corny melodrama. The series did loose steam with some of the pointless filler in the middle, I mean with the exception of the Christmas ep and the one where they explain Ruri's origan there wasn't much there (oh and the recap was good if not because it was so true.)
However, the last few eps recaptured the magic that I loved about the series. Ruri of coarse continued to rock throughout all the episodes of coarse.
What really suprised me was the fairly low casualty count among the main charecters, I thought the writers were going to go on a whole sale slaughter fest killing off main charecters but it seemed that wasn't the case.
Another big shock was the revelation of Dr. Risange (or Ritsko Ikagi as I like to call her :p ) as the little girl who Akito met in Mars. I did not see that coming, it just hit me out of nowhere. But it was as good plot twist as finding out who was the chairman at Nergal and that the Jovians where Humans.
I also liked how they resolved the relationship between Akito and Yurika, I cracked up when their plan failed and the scientest was just like "Okay you two have to kiss each other." And then when they were arguing in the cockpit was golden to. I'm not sure whether the staff meant for the show to have a sequal or if the meant for it to end so openly as they were parodying yet another anime cliche.
Oh well, I'll have to go back eventually and watch it with subtitles in Japanesse.

The movie (which takes place after the series) comes out in a few months or so..

Yeah so I've heard. Maybe it'll wrap up some of the loose ends from the series.

I love Nadesico. I bought the Complete Chronicles a while ago, and every couple of months since, my brother and I will go on a "Nadesico Run", as we like to call it. We basically pop in the first dvd and watch the ENTIRE series over the course of a day or two.
My brother absolutely loves Gai, I thought he was gonna cry when he died. He can't turn anything on now without yelling,"Switching unit Onnnnaaaaahhh!!!"...Come to think of it, neither can I.http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Now I didn't see the "I" and "Inez" connection, but my little brother knew it immediately when he saw Ms. Frisange(I belive that's how you spell her name...) that she was I, and this was before the short stint on Toonami, so I know he didn't see it there.
I haven't seen the movie. Does anyone know if it is any good? I would be interested to know.

Unfortunately, I heard that the movie is too much like the stuff that Nadesico is trying to parody, rather than Nadesico itself. But I haven't actually seen it.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons that I've kinda been avoiding it. Like Akito said about the last episode of Gekigangar, it might change the way he feels about the series, and my hopes for the movie would be so high after the series that it almost couldn't live up to them(Kind of like Cowboy Bebop:KOHD).
Oh well, maybe one day I'll get around to watching it.

I didn't like the Nadesico movie. It opened up a big ol' can of worms and just wasn't funny. Its completely different from the series. I was honestly wondering if it was Nadesico I was watching or if my friend gave me the wrong movie. So everyone, try and set your expectations REALLY low so it doesn't hurt as much.

I think Yuriko and Akito aren't in the movie...are they?

Eh, they're pretty absent from the movie, yes. To compensate for this, there's a whole lot of Ruri, which would please the fanboys.

They are in the movie but not a big part. The main character is basically Ruri.
The movie was Ok. It was a total shock to me because I was expecting something like the series and it was different. It wasn't bad, it had a lot more action, but it sacrificed some of the comedy.
Also no Gekiganger, which I felt was the funniest part of the series. I loved the series and I now own it on DVD.( It's pretty cheap for the boxset.) Anyway, I can't wait for the movie to come out, maybe I'll understand it better watching it in English. :D :anime:

They aren't in it much because their death in a plane crash was faked so that a faction attempting to figure out the Jumping technology could study them. One of the side effects of this is that Akito lost his sense of taste, meaning he could never really cook again :(

That's what the Gekigengar III OVA is for. It's like the concentrated comedy that was left over after the movie. It's hilarious.

Exactly. I sure hope ADV is smart and puts the Gekiganger OVA in with the movie. It's only a little over a half-hour anyway. I also hope they don't crap it up with all the text overlays either.

The movie is more serious and confusing than the TV series. It occurs 3 years after, and the ending is open. There's also a game that connects the TV series to the movie, appropriately called "The Blank of 3 Years."

Of course, that's just the begining of the totally out there stuff that doesn't make sense or get resolved.
