Just caught part of this on Boomerang when I turned on the TV. They were showing a 1970s H-B Tom and Jerry cartoon featuring a visit from Jerry's little nephew, Dinky:

He kept calling Tom and Jerry, "Uncle Tom" and "Uncle Jerry" over and over and over.
Now, with this discovery, do we refer to Jerry's nephew as "Nibbles", "Tuffy", or "Dinky"? :p

Now that I think of it. Maybe he said his name was "Pinky"...
I don't want to watch the cartoon again to find out. :p

hope so. I still can't believe Hanna-Barbera ruined THEIR OWN CHARACTERS in the 70s. I kept saying that over and over last time I saw it.

Wow, what an ugly picture! As I like to pretend these "cartoons" were never even made, I would still refer to him as Nibbles or Tuffy.

Dinky is brown, Nibbles and Tuffy are brown....
Nibble is an orphan, Tuffy is Jerry's nephew....
Dinky is BOTH Tom and Jerry's "nephew".... as in what REALLY happened after "Casanova Cat" ended.....

I admit it too. Very badly drawn!

What was that show about? Was it a rip-of of :tomcat: and :jerry: ?

Technically it WAS Tom and Jerry, not a rip off. Hanna-Harbera did a Saturday morning Tom and Jerry Show in the 70's, I believe it was shown on ABC. In it, Tom and Jerry were supposedly buddies (never seen an episode).
I've heard that origially there was a lot of excitement surrounding the series. Hanna and Barbera were going to get thier old MGM crew back together and try to make the cartoons somewhat like the originals (even giving the show slightly higher budgets than other TV projects)...then ABC told them that the show couldn't have any violence in it. Since show could only contain friendly kiddie crap, H-B abandoned thier original idea and made the show like any other 70's cartoon.

I found a good site with lots of info on the series. Click here (http://www.hbshows.com/tomjerry) to go there.

I'm pretty sure he was Dinky. I remember that cartoon pretty well. I may be in the minority here, but I liked the 1975 Tom and Jerry shows. I loved the theme song. I wish I could see these shows again. They were really different than the original series, but a lot of fun (to me, anyways).

I think I actually remember that one. Those crappy 1975 shorts were played to death on Buffalo's WB49 Tom & Jerry program, along with the Filmation Droopys. The network RARELY played any good ones, despite having clips from "Three Mouseketeers", "Chump Champ", "Two Little Indians", and "Million Dollar Cat" in the opening and bumpers...

There is something hideous in the cartoon (other than the animation and story)...
When Dinky jumps into the hen's nest there are five eggs...
But when they hatch there are only four chicks.... Dinky must have eaten one of the eggs ! The hen didn't notice.

Yes, it was "Dinky." The cartoon was entitled "Jerry's Nephew" (prod. #80-44), and it first aired as part of The New Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape Show on ABC Nov. 27, 1975, as part of ABC's Thanksgiving Funshine Festival.

I'm glad that you do, too, Howard! :tomcat: :jerry:
