View Full Version : Am I the only one who saw that???
They just played "The Pygmy Hunt" with the Captain! Can we eventually hope for cartoons like "Porky's Ant", or "Half Pint Pigmy"(on Acme Hour) in the future now?

I saw it too, brother! And no one is complaining! Isn't it great?

Yeah, I saw it! :D Like I said last week, somebody over there really cares about us. The only cartoons more unlikely to air than The Pygmy Hunt are the Censored 11, because as we've seen, they'll show the Indians and Speedys on occasion, but it is very, very rare for black stereotypes to show up.

"Porky's Ant" might get on LNB&W. "Half-Pint Pigmy" will have to wait for "Late Night Color" to debut on CN.
The main gag in "The Pigmy Hunt" predates the same gags as in Chuck Jones' "Inki at the Circus" by nine years. I suppose just the idea of hunting an African native, let alone his being dragged around by the boneknot, is enough to keep this cartoon off the air 99.9 percent of the time, though The Captain and The Inspector don't really come off as mental giants in this short, either and take the brunt of the punishment (and looking at the last two weeks of "Late Night Black & White" hammers home the point that Freleng hated the series -- neither the kids or mama are anywhere to be found in either last night's cartoon or in "Poultry Pirates").

I fell asleep early last night so I didn't see that CN actually broadcast "The Pygmy Hunt" until I woke up this morning and checked my tape. Talk about a surprise! I now have a complete Captain and the Kids collection! :D

Oh, man, I missed it! The one day I decide not to record LNB&W, CN would have to show a rare cartoon. :(

I've never seen this cartoon. But pygmies live in South America, not Africa. Didn't you ever see the Jonny Quest episode "A Small Matter of Pygmies"?
I guess you only have 2 more to go, huh, Jon?

Two more what? Captain cartoons? Thanks to last night's pleasant surprise I now have a copy of every one of those.
Hopefully they'll air Count Screwloose next week! :)

Jon~
The "Pygmy Hunt" was about as UN-racist a cartoon as anything ever made, the pygmy was smart, the Deutsch Captain a dummy!!
You may well catch one of the Count Screwloose toons, buuuuut the other one features a fairly long black-face incarnation of him (doing a "lazy walk"), and thus may or may not show up...

That surprised me too, but I couldn't post about it because the board was down last night.
