View Full Version : Who's heard Kenshin's second OP theme?

It's kind of weird, and it's Japanese (at least the version I've heard is). There's a girl singing and near the middle she sounds like she's about to self-destruct.

Are you talking about "Half?"

I don't know what the name is actually. Let me check.
EDIT: Yep, that's it.

i like that one, especially when she starts singing fast with the members of the J.G. flashing by with the candle light

All of the kenshin themes are Japanese.. amazing for an Anime to have songs in there own language..
but anyway, I find Half to be the best of all of Kenshin's openings..

Am I the only one who finds the "Rurouni Kenshin" OP theme to be hilariously inappropriate (esp. considering the darker nature of later episodes)?

Had Cartoon Network changed the op at the right point in time, then things would make sense.

I like "1/2" better than "Sobakasu", mostly because they ruined the end of the latter by going into that trailing off guitar riff. It should've just ended.

Although the animation is a bit darker (and much cooler) for 1/2, the song itself is still incredibly bubbly and doesn't really fit with the dark nature of the show. "Even if the world was 3 meters apart, I'd want to be pressed against you", "We'll take turns pedaling past all the drooping sunflowers", and "Adults don't understand" don't make up a particularly gritty opening.
I like 1/2 a lot, and it's tremendously better than Freckles. But it still doesn't fit with the darkness of the Kyoto Arc.

1/2 is a great song, though I never quite got why they but bubbly love songs as the themes to the darkness in Kenshin.

That's because most OP and ED anime themes are love songs. Otaku can't resist. :D
Seriously, most OP and ED themes have hardly anything to do (marginal at best) with their corresponding shows. They're just there to sound good, make the themes memorable, and to sell soundtrack CDs. Otherwise, these love songs are interchangeable with each other. They're generic love songs - one size fits all. They're vague enough so can be applied to any other anime. Things you realize if you actually understand the Japanese lyrics....

If there are any forum users out there wondering what the heck these guys are talking about, check out the 2nd opening intro at Toonami digital Arsenal (http://www.toonamiarsenal.com/). Click on download area, Rurouni Kenshin folder, and look under "Intros".
That is a nice intro... I wish CN used it.

Hmm, try downloading the latest version of Quick Time (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/) and then run the clip. If that doesn't work, try downloading and installing DivX (http://www.divx.com/divx/). Your computer might need the DivX drivers to run that clip. Note, click on the "Download the Free DivX Codec/Player Bundle" button that is located after that chat listed on that page. That version of DivX is freeware.
After installing DivX, reboot your machine and use Quicktime to run that clip. It should work.
