Damn. I always secretly wish some sort of edgy variety animation format like that would come to Adult Swim. But, I guess what with Cartoon Network being slightly more heavier on censorship, we can only get away with so much. I'm also of the sort that wished that Liquid Television would return to the airwaves. It launched quiet a few careers.
I guess score one for Spike TV...

Interesting. I can see more strange and twisted cartoons. They're my favorite type of cartoons because they inspire me to draw up Adult Swim style cartoons. :p

As Thrax mentioned, it seems odd that they have so few episodes. But I really dig Spike and Mike shorts, some of that stuff is just WRONG...and yet still terribly funny. If Spike TV handles this correctly it may turn into something. for a few people. Then Adult Swim will swoop down and snag them.

Don't kid yourself. CN would mimic TNN if there was an alternative product. TNN renewed Ren and Stimpy, CN renewed The Ripping Friends. I can't put it past CN to try.

Matt has a good point. In a lot ways having TNN's the Strip (and Anime Unleashed for that matter) is a very good thing for AS fans, and CN overall. Competition is a great way to spur innovation programming wise. Not like that collusion we got with the Kids WB and the Toonami debacle.

Is The Ripping Friends still coming to AS or not?

It came AND went!

It came AND went!
I mean, is there going to be another season with made-for-AS episodes?

That seems to be up for debate on the Adult Swim board. We know that it was renewed and we know that John K. said he would get back to The Ripping Friends after he finished with Ren & Stimpy, but we haven't heard anything in a while.
Personally, I think that it will return and that most of the people on the Adult Swim board, who hate Spumco with a passion, are engaging in wishful thinking.
I think hating Spucmo with a passion isn't exclusive to the AS Board. ;)

But unlike CN, TNN might be the first to air Rejected on national TV.
Besides I wonder if they could get away with stuff like Purdy the Dirty Birdy, The Imbreads, Lloyd, Happy Tree Friends, or even Rick the Dick.

Kind of a dumb question but anyone know if CN would bring back Cartoon Planet, or better yet start making new episodes that could be used as another WS show, or would that just be oversaturation, consideing SGC2C and the brak show are pretty prominent fixtures on the network.

CN still holds the exclusive television rights to Rejected until at least 2005, and they intend to show it at some point. It's a matter of patience and fighting.

Considering that Captain Planet was Ted Turner's personal vision, an Adult Swim parody is unlikely.
No not captain planet....Cartoon Planet with Space Ghost, Zorak, Brak, etc it was just absolute silliness, lots of songs, and randomness. It used to run around 11 or 12 at night...maybe back in '97 or '98.

well, if that's the case would they bring back ren and stimpys 'other' creative team in case ratings are in the basement at seasons end but tnn still wants to continue somehow , and john k has to fufill his obligation to the ripping friends?
cause i also enjoyed the non john-k episodes a lot.. found them very, very intriguing and would have liked to see more of those as well as the john - k ones

Why not? They have Bob Camp (Evil Con Carne), Bill Wray (Dexter), Chris Reccardi (Dexter), Paul Stec (Dexter), and plenty of other Spumco vets. Ones that still know how to make cartoons.
