I'd say...
Knightmare Hare and
For The Birds.
What do you think.

Knightmare Hare.

Actually, it was "Knighty-Knight Bugs" that won an Oscar. That would be my choice, because I think it is one of the most boring Bugs Bunny cartoons ever.

Whoops, but it is a lot more fun to watch than Shiskabugs. :p

I have to agree with you, there. :bugs1:

You have to go back to 1940 for find the best example of the worst Academy voting. Rudy Ising's "The Milky Way" took the honors over "Puss Gets the Boot" (the first T&J cartoon) and "A Wild Hare" (the first real Bugs cartoon). If only the Academy had also nominated Universal's "Knock Knock" (the first Woody Woodpecker cartoon) from that year and then not voted for that one either, they could have completed the trifecta of stupidity.

(Special note also has to go to 1946 and "The Cat Concerto." It wasn't a bad cartoon, but if Tex Avery and Friz Freleng are to be believed, having Hanna-Barbera win it that year was something akin to seeing someone earn school valedictorian honors when you know they were looking over your shoulder and copying off your test paper when they gave the final exam...)

I don't much care for the Mr. Magoo toons from UPA - style over substance IMHO.....

In 1959, the Oscar went to Hubley's annoying "Moonbird". It should have gone to "The Violinist" IMHO.

"The Milky Way" is the only one I can really think of... To think THAT cartoon could surpass two of the most historically important cartoons in history...

I agree with most of you about The Milky Way.

:bugs1: "I was robbed!"
:tomcat: & :jerry: "Us too!"

The only others I'd quibble with are :

1948 - (Mouse Wreckers is way funnier than The Little Orphan.

1953 - The Ralph Phillips series is a special favorite of mine, so I'd pick From A To Zzzz over Toot, Whistle, Plunk & Boom.

1954 - I think that Crazy Mixed-Up Pup is one of Tex Avery's last masterpieces, much more desrving of the Oscar than When Magoo Flew.

1955 - In the same vein, and at the risk of offending my fellow TTTP board members, I gotta say that The Legend Of Rockabye Point blows Speedy Gonzales away.

I agree 100% with Milky Way. Although back then, the three nominations could all be considered one-shots.

Quiet Please is a great cartoon, but how could outbeat the even greater Donald's Crime?

Lend a Paw didn't deserve the Oscar, IMO, Rhapsody in Rivets should have won that year.

What I don't get... how come Sylvester got so many nominations (and 3 winnings!) while Daffy was never even nominated?!

As for Magoo, I think it deserves the two awards he won. Those cartoons are hilarious.

1948 - (Mouse Wreckers is way funnier than The Little Orphan.

For me, A HICK, A SLICK, AND A CHICK (Warner Bros., directed by Arthur Davis) would qualify.
Hey it IS 2706!" (In 1976, I saw it for the first time in ages, must've been 1969 during the DARK AGES of Warner Bros.animation last time I saw it--Art Davis shorts back then were ESEPCIALLY hard to come by on television, the pre-48s, particularly! I'd forgotten about that when I saw it again in 1976.

1953 - The Ralph Phillips series is a special favorite of mine, so I'd pick From A To Zzzz over Toot, Whistle, Plunk & Boom.
Here I'll go with the actual winner.

1954 - I think that Crazy Mixed-Up Pup is one of Tex Avery's last masterpieces, much more desrving of the Oscar than When Magoo Flew.
For me I'll have to see the latter before judging.

1955 - In the same vein, and at the risk of offending my fellow TTTP board members, I gotta say that The Legend Of Rockabye Point blows Speedy Gonzales away.
Here I have no preference but SPEEDY GONZALES blows away the Daffy/Speedy teamups!!!!!!:D

I hate The Milky Way, is it any different from Little Buck Cheeser? Lend A Paw didn't deserve an oscar either, I agree with Javeman.
I think Walky Talky hawky should of won over The Cat Concerto.
Speedy Gonzales is funny, but not as funny as The The Legend Of Rockabye Point.

My vote would go for The Milky Way, it was just simply "Little Buck Cheezer" with a new title:rolleyes:

It isn't that boring. Cut the beginning and end out and A+ cartoon.

Like with live action films, you can't really count on the Oscars to determine what the best cartoons are. For pretty much any given year during animation's "golden" age (I'm not as familiar with more recent winners or nominees...) one of the nominated cartoons is better than the winner, and many of the best cartoons weren't even nominated...
