Actually I thought Nazz never really said that much in the first season and was just "there". It was starting in season 2 where she started talking a bit more.

The characters are remarkably different by season 4. Edd went from a horribly generic "neat freak science geek" to an incredibly brilliant, sarcastic character with hilarious observations of the other characters. He's the best written character of the past... well, 6 or 7 years, I'd say.
Eddy and Ed I could still do without. At least Ed's lines are funny in a way, and if you study them long enough, you'll realize just how relevent to the situation they are (in seasons 3 and 4, anyway).
That's why I wish people would watch the later episodes before judging, but Eddy probably turns them off. And why not? The character is extremely unlikable. That's the point. But still, it's like The Eltingville Club. Eddy is supposed to be pathetic and angry but in no way is him being convincing going to make him endearing to the viewer.
Favorite line in a Cartoon Cartoon (simply because of how it was read):
"What, I wasn't looking. Did Rolf already IS THAT THE SUPPORT BEAM TO THE HOUSE?!?!? ...this has been a long day."

At first, I really didn't like Ed, Edd, & Eddy, but as time passed, and I watched it, I began to like it, mainly because it's a mostly normal show about 3 boys, constantly scheming up ways to scam the rest of the children of the Cul-De-Sack to pay them money for thier ultimate goals. Too bad the characters provide so much static to the Ed's, that it rarely works.
As a show, I'd say that it has evolved quite nicely, but not as much as some of the other shows have (Such as Courage the Cowardly Dog, for instance) but then again, this show doesn't nessessarily need it. However, there are some issues within the characters to address.
Ed: Ranks among the stupidest of stupid characters, yet he is loveable all the same. They've established that he's highly gullible, yet has the intelligience to understand monster movies & comic books. Definately the power house of the group, and although he has his moments, Ed has developed slowly over the show, and he's a decent character..now if only he wasn't so daggone stupid....
Edd: My personal favorite character on the show, mainly because he started out as a textbook nerd, and is now, one of the few sarcastic people on the show. He's a delight to watch, from his weird run, to the ultimate secret to exactly WHAT his hair looks like without his cap. He's always been the source of righteousness, but sadly, is constantly ignored by Eddy and Ed, mainly because Eddy is an evil character to begin with, and Ed is extremely gullible. I'm a bit glad that he's not as much as a cleanaphobe as he was in the beginning, but it's still a funny quirk to watch. (Remember the sewage ride they tried to make work when all of the guys were out?) He's also quite the genius, as some of the things he's build out of normal household items, are very unique. Definately overworked. I have a theory that he'd be the only one in the group who could actually separate and be relatively normal.
Eddy: God. Jeez. He's up there on the highly unlikeable scale, and he presses further with his balatant greed. If anything, he's just gotten bigger and bigger ideas about getting cash that is ultimately dashed by someone else (The Kankers, for instance.) or something else. He's definately a procrastinator, and is extremely lazy, as he's shown through various scams. I Also believe that Eddy is a very young Eustace. But Eddy does have one likeable quality, though. His sarcasm, while a different brand from Edd's, is a nice touch. But still, whether it is his greed, the legend of Eddy's big brother, or his generally outrageous scams, Eddy is one guy I'd have to seriously hurt in real life. I'm absolutely positive that Eddy will become a Used Car Salesman in the future.
Johnny & Plank: One of two characters who's racial ethnicity is blurred, these two are quite strange. Johnny seems to be almost as vapid as Ed, but through Plank, he expresses his intelligience, which is often crafty. I'd also venture to say, that next to Jimmy, he's one of the easier ones to scam. He's sorta changed a little bit, but not a whole lot, other than his apparent gullibility. And it's very, very hard to get him mad. And when he is..waaatch you!
Nazz: I don't know what it is about her, but she's...ugh. They don't explain her well, and only seems to exist to arouse the boys of the Cul-de-sack for a love interest. It is hinted that she is taken by Kevin, but it's never confirmed. She's also a bit of an athelete, and generally, has a "Normal" female adolescent attitude. Innocent, but with fragile nerves. Rarely comes into the contact of the Ed's.
Kevin: Another character that I like, but like his Nazz, he is also not explained very well. He highly insists that the Ed's are dorks, yet I think this is covering a deep insecurity within him to make himself feel better than them. His Paranoia of the Ed's is shown in an episode, and quite honestly, this proves my point that if the Ed's aren't around, he has no one to make fun of, and he becomes quite insecure, and spends his time at home. He seems to have an ongoing friendship with Rolf (Strange in my opinion) and again, like Nazz, enjoys athletics. Also the only kid with a Bike, a most prized possession of his. And oddly enough, Kevin is a bald kid with three hairs. The very ones that stick out of his hat.
Rolf: Perhaps the most heavily devoloped character in the series, Rolf is delightful, and is my second favorite character. Rolf is a joy to see onscreen, as his accent is quite the nice touch, and like Johnny, his racial ethnicity is blurred, but I believe he comes from somewhere in Eastern Europe. His farm is often visited by the Ed's, as it tends to have things they might need from time to time (Eggs, a Job, etc.). His "Great Nana" is a constant subject for him to yap about, and he seems to be little more than an Urban Farm Boy, always working. Perhaps the Embodyment of "All work and no play makes Jack a dull Boy." Cept Rolf's name isn't Jack. Nor is he dull. I often wonder why Victor isn't used more.
Sarah: The most tyrannical little sister one could ever have, and possibly a reason why Ed is so stupid. She's loud, arguementive, bratty, annoying, a liar, agressive, and everything else one would be to be a wrestler. Like her big brother, she seems to have impressive strength, yet I find it hard to believe she doesn't use it in atheletics, like Nazz has. Ballet is hardly a use for strength. It's also quite odd that she has an interest for Jimmy, but I suppose she has to have at least one friend. Did I mention she's a stickler for soft things?
Jimmy: Well, at first, he was a pansy without a friend..now he's a pansy with some serious back-up (Sarah). And a clever one too. He's the girliest boy who's ever existed, and often times, I wonder if this was intended. Probably. Normally, he's very easy to get money off of, and is the first to cough up a few quarters. But he does have the capablility to out-scam the Ed's, and to outsmart everyone. People seem to overlook him for that aspect. He's gotten the Ed's on more than one occaision, but seems to supress this fact often, making him..quite odd. It's also nice that he sees so many injuries, because often times, what he says afterwards, followed by Sarah's reaction, is quite funny. Definately a serial killer when he grows up. ;)
The Kanker Sisters: They exist for one reason. As a constant reminder of what they'll be enjoying in adulthood, and loathing now. They seem to outmanuver, and trick the Ed's in to being in thier presence. You'd think in a trailer park, they'd have more to do than harrass boys that have nothing to do with them. They seem to be Female counter parts to the Ed's, but oddly enough Marie doesn't seem to be intelligient (like DD), and the Red-haired one isn't caniving (like Eddy). And it's possible that the blonde one may out-strength Ed. Unfortunately, since that's all they exist for, they have almost no development.
Ed, Edd, and Eddy is a nice show, but as I wrote, some characters need a little tweaking.

"What, I wasn't looking. Did Rolf already IS THAT THE SUPPORT BEAM TO THE HOUSE?!?!? ...this has been a long day."
Yeah, the way that line was delivered simply made it an instant classic.
As far as development goes, I think people have hit the nail on the head. We have seen Double D evolve from the nerd in season one to the sarcastic kid we have today. Also, his 'relationship' with Sarah seems to have evolved. There are hints of feelings on both sides, and he seems to be the only one of the 3 that she can stand. I mean, even Kevin can occasionally put up with Double D.

A while back, I actually had the E,E, and E as one of the worst Cartoon Cartoons. Now this show is actually starting to grow on me.
My favorite one of the Cul-De-Sac gang is Rolf. His nicknames for the Ed Boys and the other Cul-De-Sac members is one of my favorite running gags on the shows.
Also, Ed steals the show with his crazy lines.
So, overall, Ed, Edd, and Eddy is actually a pretty good Cartoon Cartoon.
Also, great post Courage.
My favorite character in the ENTIRE show is Eddy. Why?
He's the only character I can relate to. A sarcastic bastard who doesn't get his way and is NEVER trusted by ANYONE. Also hated by everyone. At my school, anyways... I don't know what happened, but nobody wants anything to do with me. damned bastards....
The only thing I have that he doesn't is sympathy. I have a lot of that, I just don't use it because nobody I know seems to deserve it.
Edit: Nazz kissed Double D?! When?!

The episode where Ed thought he was a monster and was wreaking havoc on the kids (a classic). I agree, Courage. That was a terrific post.

Nice job there Courage. In that case I will try to sum up each character.
Ed: My 3rd favorite character of the show. He seems to be best friends with Eddy. His random one liners and monster movie/comic book geekish tendecies remind me of my old friends back when I was in High School and College. He's a character I can relate to. He's not the best developed in the show, but he's one of the greatest dim-witted characters in animation today.
Edd: My 2nd favorite character of the show. He went from a gullible, neat freak science wiz to a very sarcastic and rational thinker. He's good friends with Ed and Eddy, but is forced to do all the dirty work for Eddy's scams. There is something under his hat that he hides from the camera and always keeps the viewers in anonymity. His character is imaginative and like Matt said, one of the best characters created within the past decade.
Eddy: The guy you love to hate. A greedy and selfish bastard who only thinks of himself. Loves to prank and scandalise people for cash. He's the most hated kid in the cul-de-sack. He's also best friends with Ed. I can't stand Eddy. His voice, the way he laughs. And whats with the chained wallet if he has no do-rei-mi to protect? The only times I though he was entertaining was in The Luck of the Ed and An Ed Is Born.
Johnny 2x4: A crazy kid with an imaginary friend made of wood. Johnny is one of the average kids on the show........who am I kidding? He's hyperactive and talks to wood. He may seem like a stupid pigeon, but his true intelegence can be shown through Plank. He's also a real hot head when he's angry. So watch out for him whenever he does.
Jimmy: The fragile liitle kid with the retainer and 1,000 different casts and bruises every week. He's always beaten up or humiliated in some manner. Even though he outsmarted the Ed's a couple of times and was the first person ever to hit Nazz, I still don't think he's really a strong character like he tries to make himself in these episodes. I could spit in the kid's eye and he'd have an eyepatch on for 2 years. He's a walking disaster. Although he'd make a great human shield if you ever got into trouble.
Sarah: The Princess. Best friends with Jimmy and the younger sister of Ed. She's a real *****. Nuff said. She just doesn't know when to stop. I just wish Ed would stop being a wuss because she's got his strength and lay down some laws with her since he's the big brother. He only did that once, but its a side of Ed I'd like to see more when talking to her. I hope she grows up to be a lonely widow in the cul-de-sack.
Kevin: The wannabe tough guy who allways rides a bike. Best friends with Rolf and has a crush on Nazz. He loves to pick on the Ed's so he can be the boss of the group of kids in the cul-de-sack where Eddy's brother would take over. He's very well respected, especially by Johnny. I think this kid is a real pushover if the Ed's were not there to prank him. He even got captured by the Kankers yet he was riding his bike.
Nazz: The pretty girl in the cul-de-sack. Has a crush on Kevin (it seems). She's very athletic and always uses different beautly tips from magizines to make her look more attractive. Her character design needs a lot of work on to convince us that she is suppose to be as attractive as the guys see her because even the Kankers look better than her. I almost gaged when I saw her in boxers. She looked more like a man with those colored boxers on.
Rolf: My #1 favorite character in the show. A foreigner from Eastern Europe who strongly believes in his country's cultures and herritage. Best friends with Kevin. The strongest kid in the cul-de-sack. Rolf is the most heavily devoloped character in the series. His words of wisdom and his crazy racial traditions make him stand out the most of all the characters in the show. Everytime I see Rolf I know something funny and random is going to occur. From " May the fleas from your cow inflame your Rhubarb," to "Do not burn the candle at both ends as it leads to the life as a hairdresser," Rolf has the best one liners ever spoken in the history of animation. In conclusion, "May your nose infest with the rage of Otis!"
Kanker Sisters: The redneck troublesome trio from the nearby trailer park who are feared by everyone in the cul-de-sack. They have a crush on the Ed's. They also are the Worst characters in this show period. Like Danny Antonucci once said, these characters were only used after their first apperance whenever the writers had writers block. And every apperance they make is pointless and ruins the plans and fun of everyone else in the show. The worst thing they did was kill the half hour episode, If It Smells Like an Ed. You think that it could've been Rolf and Jimmy teamed up to show how much each of them hate the Ed's for making their lives a living Hell. This also could've been the perfict way to show the first apperance of Eddy's brother and say he set the whole thing up. But no it was those God damed Kankers instead. They killed such a well written episode. Curse you Kankers!
Yeah, the Kankers suck. IMO they should've been one-time characters. But in Ed, Edd, n' Eddy, there's no such thing as a one-time character. You should include that in the evolution thingy.
And I think that Eddy's character was meant to be hated. :D

Which one y'talkin' to, me Courage-Bagge, or the new Courage? BTW, Welcome Courage! I hope people don't get you, me, and CourageEditor mixed up.
one thing I'd like to point out about Ed that no one's mentioned is how extremly moral he is.
The intreging thing about the show is the fact that the eds are a group. It's been shown several times that if one is gone, the whole group would fall apart. I don't mean in the ovious ways, but in a deeper aspect. Just try to imagine the group without one of the Eds. They all balance each other out. It's a triad. The show itself has an underlaying tone of this in every episode. What makes it truly interesting is the fact that they couldn't stand each other. But now (in season 3-4) you can see how they have effected each other. Like how Edd became sarcastic, Ed became slightly more phylisophical (although it sounds like nonsence most of the time, like Matt said), and Eddy began caring more about his freinds.

For the record, the only character Nazz ever kissed in the entire series was Edd.
Yet he also yelled and the kids were suprised that Edd was yelling at Ed when he was acting a monster, that was very brave, also don't forget the time in season 3 when Sarah Trusted Edd for some of the scams that Eddy sort of did in the first place, yet after words it backfired and Ed, Edd, Sarah and Jimmy agreed to have Eddy be punded the heck out of for 1 cent for making both of the Ed's be the victom wich was kina mean in that, so Eddy got what he deserved for messing around with the scam it self.

Simple solution for all of it. Call you Bagge, call him Editor, an' call me Courage. :D Simple.
I don't exactly see Eddy starting to "care" for his friends other than "We need him to do something! GET HIM BACK!"
I'd think It'd be hard for Eddy to even consider the word "compassion". :p

I believe all the problems around the kid's in Ed, Edd N' Eddy is because of one person. Eddy's brother. Would Eddy be as bad as he is with out him? Would Eddy be scamming kid's. Would Sarah be as mean to Ed without good old Eddy. Would Jimmy need to relay on Sarah so much. Would Johny and Plank be best friends?
Believe it or not, Eddy is one of my favorite characters. Sure, he may be selfish. He may have an ego. And he may be a bit of a bastard at times, but deep down he's a good guy.
If you remember, he eventually was touched and let Double D live in his house. He even read him a book and might have rubbed his feet, but we didn't get to see it.
In the episode for free jawbreakers, sure he chose to get a jawbreaker over trying to save Edd from the chicken stampede, but he did think about it for awhile.
Eddy does have a good side, it's just burried very deep in his character.
I, however, am growing to dislike the Kankers more and more. They just seem to be used too much. Some episodes would be better if they just were to stay out of it. Like the free jawbreakers episode.
Another character I don't like all that much is Sarah. She's just a whinny little brat.
I like Ed for his stupidity, Edd for his sarcasm, Eddy for his sarcasm, Kevin for his... character I guess, Nazz just because, Jimmy is funny sometimes, Rolf is funny all the time, Johnny and Plank are great too.
"Is this guy going to sleep through the whole show?!" ~ Eddy
"Kevin wasn't in this episode, Eddy." ~ Edd
"This show needs subtitles." ~ Kevin
A problem I have with EEnE is they show the same episodes a bit too much. I like the episode about the Eds hunting for Eddy's magazines, but I see that one on all the time now.
However, the character on the show I seem to realate to the most is Double D.

Yeah, I'd agree with this sentiment. His blind love for his brother, combined with the other kids fear of him(or deep respect, which is often caused by fear) would suggest that his family life may be to blame. He has shown that he does care about his friends, he just expresses it in bizzare ways. But the end, he is an okay guy.

All I can say is, CN.com's schedule shows Sunday night, the 24th. You will find it there.
Be sure to watch Duck Dodgers too, in case you miss the Saturday airing.
Ed, Edd n Eddy has changed a lot since season one... The animation has improved, voices changed, and characters changed...
Ed - Ed started out as a simple-minded smelly kid who loved science fiction. Now he is a smelly complete idiot who loves science fiction. He was always under Sarah's power, but as the series progessed she molded him more and more. Now he cowers in her presence. In the early epiode where he babysits Sarah he is able to tell her, "SARAH! DON'T THROW STUFF!" ...Sarah's unsupervised out in the cul-de-sac everyday... Why'd he have to babysit her, anyway?
Edd - Edd was just your typical geek. He was very organized, obsessed with cleanliness, intelligent, creative, poliet, and usually kept to himself. But after spending so much time with Eddy he has become more sarcastic and argumentative. With Eddy, at least. While he tries to stay poliet, it's hard for him when he looses his temper. In one episode from season one, Double D's pupils turned into hearts as he looked at Sarah saying someone stole his magnifying glass. I'm glad that was the only thing ever shown that hinted Edd liked Sarah... A twelve-year-old isn't going to like an eight-year-old... Especially one like Sarah. But Sarah's got the crush on him, now. Edd has turned to liking Nazz, like most of the others.
Eddy - I don't care what everyone says, you gotta` love Eddy. He may be selfish, but he has a soft side deep down. Over time his respect for his brother showed more. He's always wanted acceptance, but he doesn't want to change for it. He now seems to have more on his mind than "cash." Seems... Because their scams never work it seems more like they just try these scams because it's a habbit. But maybe it's still for that jawbreaker... At least he talks about other things.
Kevin - Kevin is one of those kids that without other kids to make fun of wouldn't be considered cool. At least this is what he's become. At Nazz's sprinkler party the Eds were hardly noticed. Kevin wasn't making fun of them but still got acceptance. Now he sees people like it and makes fun of them all the time. Would his athletic skill keep him popular? He's grown to like Double D more than Ed or Eddy, but he still classifies him as a dork.
Nazz - Nin-Nin69, I really don't understand how you could posibly find the Kankers to be more attractive than Nazz... Anyway, in the first season Nazz hardly said anything. It wasn't until she got her new voice that you learned more about her. She seems to be the most intelligent in the cul-de-sac, next to Double D. I really don't think she likes Kevin. She's kinda` just with him because he's the popular guy, and she's the popular girl. She's one of the few characters that like all three Eds.
Rolf - I don't really understand why some people are saying Rolf is the most evolved. I don't think he's changed much at all... Through his ramblings you've learned a bit more about him, though. I guess he's become a bit more proud of his heritage and showed us (and especially the Eds) that he has become pretty strong after all of his work.
Johnny - In the early episodes the only weird thing about Johnny was that he talked to Plank. Later on he started to act weird. ...And that's why we love Johnny. He seems to want to protect the environment, too... That stayed the same... In an early episode he didn't want the Eds sawing a tree to build Club Ed. In a later episode he wanted to protect a raccoon, who was really just Ed.
Plank - Why do I have a spot for Plank? 'Cause he changed, too! In the beginning Johnny would just say things to Plank. Not have conversations. Pretty soon he made conversation with him, though. Still in season one, I think. Plank seems to have gotten a mean side to him. He doesn't like the Eds, especially Eddy.
Jimmy - Jimmy started off as just a girly boy. But he does seem to have a crush on Sarah... Jimmy used to just do whatever he was told and feared Eddy. But while most of the changes the characters experienced were gradual with each event changing them a bit, Jimmy had an episode about it. After Eddy morphed him he started to use his brain. He stood up for himself and realised Sarah is the ultimate body gaurd.
Sarah - Ed's bratty baby sister... She didn't change much... She started to like Double D in an early episode... By the end of that one she apparently didn't anymore... But I guess she still did deep inside... But she doesn't mind beating him up with Ed and Eddy... Blah...
The Kanker Sisters - Yes, Plank had his own spot, but May, Lee, and Marie aren't seen enough to establish much of indivisual personalities. Perhaps this is for the best... When used correctly, the Kankers can be halarious additions to an episode, but normally they're just thrown in. They can get rather annoying. They've always been that way, so there wasn't much evolution... Well... I guess with Lee and Marie often arguing with each other and both of them blaming things on May...

Good summary! 10/10 lol. It's all true too.

Eds Forever!
Or not!
They'll end after season four.
But I'll love the show forever!
As long as they don't screw up on the fourth season.

Well I can say that explains that cursed Phone that Rolf was trying to hide aways got after Eddy, at least in the process Plank really took a hold of the phone and kept the calls comming so that the can get after Eddy on most of the things that he did to Jhonny wich seems quite funny, just like if Eddy is getting his just desserts for scamming the Cul-De-Sac and the kids as well.

The show got better over the seasons, I'll give you that.;)
It's one of my favorite Cartoon Cartoons.
Wait.....
It's ending after it's 4th season?!
And what the heck is Matt talking about?!

Ed: I used to hate this guy. He was loud and dumb and annoying. But he graduated from being stupid to being stupidly clever. It's true, if you think hard enough about what he's saying, it does make perfect sense. And like Eddy says, you just wanna pinch his cheeks.
Edd: Almost unrecognizable from his first season self. He's so great, all fussy and maternal and adorable. Somewhere along the line he became the hero of the show.
Eddy: OK, this guy would be a lot more likeable if we could see the deep down buried nice guy we saw in the sticky note episode and other early episodes. He seems to have gotten meaner and dumber over the years. Of all the characters, I'd say his is the only one that's gotten less pleasant to watch.
Johnny: Reminds me of me. The eccentric, easy-going, hippie loner. He's gotten a lot happier. Much like Ed, he laughs at everything. "Are you a doughnut hater?" Hee hee.
Plank: Words fail me. All hail king Plank!
Kevin and Nazz: I lump these two together because they're both kind of boring. They seem to work best as straight men.
Rolf: I love love love Rolf. He's got the best dialogue in the whole show. And unlike in the first season, you can understand what the plague he's saying now (at least, to extent that his weird sayings can be understood). I quote Rolf's Olde Worlde-isms in real life. I've decided he comes from one of those unpronounceable countries that lie between Europe and Russia.
Sarah: Also kind of boring. Does she like Edd anymore or not?
Jimmy: It's nice to see him get his independence from Sarah, as an Urban Ranger and in his own stories, something that seems to be happening more and more. Sarah doesn't really work without Jimmy, but Jimmy works fine without Sarah. He's a very complex little guy.
Lee Kanker: What's sad is that Lee is actually nicer to her sisters than Eddy is to his fellow Ed-boys.
Marie Kanker: Seems to be the wildest and craziest of the Kankers. As I said in another post, she's almost the polar opposite of Edd. I guess if she were like Edd she wouldn't be very intimidating.
May Kanker: Not quite as lumpy as Ed, but close.
In general, the show has gotten much faster paced. It used to really dra-a-a-a-g in some parts. The dialogue is still sometimes incomprehensible.

Matt Wilson said that the only character Nazz ever kissed was Edd.
Edd gets kissed a lot, doesn't he? Aside from Nazz and Marie, he's been kissed by Rolf (on the tongue), Ed (inflated), and Eddy.

Edd has evolved alot, and is thankfully getting more of a backbone. I really like the recent episode, where he even helps out Kevin, to get back at Ed and Eddy who were bothering both of them. Perfect revenge for My Fair Ed, when Kevin and everyone else were holding Edd responsible for Ed and Eddy's antics.
I really don't think she likes Kevin. She's kinda` just with him because he's the popular guy, and she's the popular girl. Yeah, because ultimately, they bore each other. Like all those times she's tryiong to show him some sentimental thing (like Jimmy's Friendship Day, or Edd's treasure hunt, --till she realized it went over her head too), and he's like "yeah, whatever". But one time when he was showing off his bike stunts to her, she was like "yeah, whatever".
Edd seriously annoyed the heck out of me for the first few seasons. But he seems more likable in this current season.
Eddy is my absoluete favorite. At times, he can come off as annoying (Season 1) but overall, i like him. He's got such a big ego.
The only non-Ed character i like on the show is Rolf.
Can someone tell me why Edd had a crush on Sarah in the first episode? Isn't she like, three years younger than him? Then it went vice-versa..

You guys are all right, just about everyone has evolved in one way or another since season 1. And granted, the entire series is basically supposed to be around one [looooong] summer, it seems that each character has somewhat matured - especially Double-D...although Eddy I would say (who's my least fav) hasn't matured one bit.
Also, you guys seem to have overlooked that Ed has changed a little bit, too. Think about it. Up until around mid-3rd season, and especially now, he has been fairly quiet. Only speaking a silly word, or a couple of funny sentences every now and then..even got smart when he "lost his pants" when they turned them "gold." But Ed in this season has started to really form full sentences and carries conversations. He actually talks now. I can't remember which episode it was, but while watching it, I was amazed that Ed was talking so much, and then I noticed that with each new episode, he would continue talking more and more. :)
And honestly, I may be alone in this, and I know I've mentioned it before, but yeah Double-D being my favorite "Ed" (though Ed coming in really close 2nd), Jimmy is my favorite non-Ed. Listening to his voice, and the funny way [Keenan] delivers the lines cracks me up about every time:
"My thighs...they're burning." *LOL*
"I think I'm getting heatstroke from this hat, Sarah..."
"Buttered toast with gravy?....people eat this?"
"Did Ed's head fall off, Sarah?..."
All of that just cracked me up, and even during reruns it's still hilarious. But even he has started to become more talkative, and even somewhat independant of Sarah. Sure they still play together, but not as much as it seems in this season.
I definitely like the fact that the characters have changed so much, because it keeps them somewhat "real" if you get my drift. They can't just remain the same throughout, but it's good to see that most, if not all of them (minus Eddy) have matured a bit.

The characters sure have changed a lot from the first season. I like the change in Double-D of him being more sarcastic and Ed being...well um Ed. :p Though I would like to see Eddy's "softer" side. ;)

When did Double D start to get sarcastic? I believe it was the middle of Season 3, or was it earlier?
LavenderGray

I don't think Edd ever made snarky in the first season. Maybe once or twice. It must have started somewhere in the second season.
I forgot to mention that I love Jimmy too. Ed: "Speak to me, Jimmy!" Jimmy: "Some things are better left unsaid." I love Jimmy and I love Rolf. That's why I'm glad we got to see them together in the money tree episode, trying to get along despite being so different. I just wish we could have seen more of that in the episode.
I hadn't really noticed, but Ed DOES talk more lately. I especially saw it in the Plank's parents episode. And of course it was Ed's brilliant idea to buy a scam. "We must scam him, my gaggle of pals!" Actually, looking back at the first season, Eddy was the only Ed that ever talked much. And he WAS nicer back then. Not that I'm saying Eddy should be a saint. I liked it when he said to Ed for no rational reason, "This is your fault! Admit it! If you do, I promise not to leave bruises!"

*as Ed is trying to fit the key into the cow's udder*
Double-D: I think Ed may be up to something.
I think that's the first snarky remark Double-D made in "Key to my Ed", 2nd Season. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Are you saying that Nazz is a man?!

Call me stupid for bringing this entire thread up again, but now that EEE is renewed, the Evolution needs to be updated, so here's the updated Evolution:
FIRST SEASON
Ed:Thicker Eyebrow
Slightly Deeper Voice
Double D: Scratchy Voice for first few episodes.
Eddy: "Pee" Colored Tongue
Higher pitched voice for first few episodes.
Jimmy: Muffled Voice.
Bigger eyebrows.
Nazz: More talkative.
Jonny: Head never got stuck in trees.
Animation: Moving lines didn't move as much.
Opening Segments Music: Different before the other seasons.
Aka Cartoon Logo:Yellow.
SECOND SEASON
Ed:Eyebrow became thinner and stayed that way.
Voice got a little higher and stayed that way.
Became more stupid
Double D:More use of his homemade scientific equipment.
Eddy:Tongue became a lime green color and stayed that way. Age revealed as 11.
Jimmy:No more muffled voice.
More prone to injuries.
Nazz:Less talkative.
New voice actress.
Jonny:Head got stuck in trees more.
Animation:Moving line moved more.
Thicker outlines for first few episodes of season 2.
Opening Segments Music:Changed, and stuck with the new music.
Aka Cartoon Logo:Purple.
THIRD SEASON
Ed: Got even more stupid!
Double D: Didn't change much except get a little more gullable.
Eddy: Didn't change at all.
Nazz: Still new voice actress.
More smart (seemed like she was some rocket scientist!)
Jonny: Head started getting stuck in any place.
Kevin: Was actually nice to Double D in one episode.
Animation: Moving lines pretty much stayed the same.
Other: Two episodes were held over from this season and aired during season 4.
Aka Cartoon Logo:Lime Green.
FOURTH SEASON
Ed: Was actually smart in one episode, but he does seem to be a little more productive.
Double D: Became more sarcastic and would argue with Eddy more. Also, middle name revealed: Marion. In fact, some sources say his entire name is Eddward Marion "Double D" Sobchak.
Eddy: Scams seemed a little dry, and totally predictable. Age now 12. Middle name revealed as well: Skipper.
Jonny: New voice actor, seemed seemless at first, but later, you could tell it was a new actor.
Jimmy: Man, this guy became a sad, strange little man, who seemed to get the upper hand.
Aka Cartoon Logo:Gray. (I honestly thought it was going to be red!)
Other:Kids started to trust the Eds less and less.
HOLIDAY SPECIALS
(so far)
Ed: I don't know about you guys, but I thought his voice is starting to sound a little off.
Edd: Now he's in love with May Kanker?
Eddy: Didn't notice that much change in him, except he's taking a bit more leadership.
Aka Cartoon Logo: I don't know, I haven't seen the new color this time.
Animation: Still hand-drawn, but now the characters are colored digitally, making the colors a bit brighter, bolder, and closer to the colors that we see on merchandise, or promotional images.
Other: The cul-de-sac kids now go to school. Peach Creek High, and will be seen in school more now. This allows for more storylines. The only problem, in an upcoming story, the Eds are having recess, which is only in elementary school.

I don't think it wise to presume S5 changes from what's been on so far (2 specials. Both of which are purposefully off the usual styles). And these specials aren't a part of Season 5 anyway.
The Edd/May thing was a one off as well. To avoid confusion they will more than likely go back to the original pairings. Ed did sound slightly off in Hanky Panky Hullabaloo to me as well.
The scams aren't becoming dry, but more far-fetched in order to get more laughs. We've seen all the basic summertime scams like Ice-Cream truck, Eds-Mart and En-O-Gee Drinks, so to avoid being cliche about the whole thing, the scams are becoming more of a show introductory gag rather than strongly contributing to the storyline in any way.
Edd's last name ain't Sobchak by the way. It was the cover name he used when digging for Eddy's brothers treasure. Have you ever tried Google image searching Sobchak with the safesearch off? xD

Ed I could still do without.I wouldn't watch the show without him. I think he's the best written character, closely followed by Edd. I don't see how a show with only Edd would be worth watching, as Eddy always comes up with plots and gets them in trouble, Edd tries to get them out of it, and Ed follows it through with his hilarious dialogue.

Another stupid quote by Ed, after Double D is ashamed of being part of Eddy's scheme to spend Sarah's allowance of jawbreaker, and says "I don't know who I am anymore!" Ed happily replies: "You should write your name on your underwear Double D, (pulls up his underwear with 'Ed' written on the tag) see...I'm 'Hand-Wash Only'!"

"Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care."
"North to Alaska!"
"End of first sequence and fade to black."
"I should have all of the feeling in my feet back after these messages from our sponsors."
"Anybody got an itch to scratch?"
"Simple my friends, it was a foot."
"They're snug like a bug on a rug in a jug by a slug..."
"Baron O'Beefdip is pleased now!"
"There there little man, there;s plenty to be ashamed of!"
"Table for two!"
"Who brought the tartar sauce?"

"I say, the cheese is always twice the fencepost"
"A. is for "helping" which comes from a tree. B. is for "lifting Edd and Eddy". C. is for "grapefruit" which I don't like one bit, except with cranberry relish."

Sorry I'm going to have to get us back on subject by putting my two cents on the characters changes. Let’s see;
Ed: Hasn't really changed much in my opinion, but yes he has started to talk a bit more. Also in season four is starting to realize Eddy is not such a nice guy, and is starting to respect Double D a bit more. In that episode where we meet Planks parents for the first and last time lol Ed listened to Double D a lot in that episode and got more of a back bone in that episode too.
Double D: My favorite character of the show has indeed changed a lot over the seasons. He's become more sarcastic over the years, guess he couldn't take much more of Eddy's ordering around, though he still cares abut Eddy. Also has become more of a ladies man. Each girl seems to fall for him.
Eddy: My least favorite Ed, I agree with what you guys said is probably meant to be hated or something like that. In season one-two he was a great character, I didn't mind him because he treated his friends with respect. In season four his attitude changed greatly, he did become lazier in creating scams, and doesn't really care about his friends much now.
Sarah: Starting to be a little bit meaner to everyone except Jimmy of course.
Rolf: I don't see any change here. He is one funny guy, is my favorite non Ed character.
Jimmy: Has become more annoying over the years. Became more independent without Sarah, and has also been easily getting hurt as of lately.
Kevin: Nothing much here except he has become a little bit nicer to Double D so yes that's true.
Nazz: Is talking a lot more, also has some what of a personality now.
May: We never really saw her apart from, her sisters. In the Valtintimes Day special we see a different side of her. She seems to have become smarter in a séance and nicer too.
Marie and Lee: No change here either.
That's about all I can say oh yes the animation has changed tremendously over the past years, it has become better that's a good thing. Um any who continue with what you guys were doing if you want, I just wanted to give my thoughts on the subject. Sorry about that :) .

No need to apologize Ron, that's the why I started this thread a whooole year ago! I just brought back up again, since EEE has ACTUALLY been renewed. So, don't be sorry, the whole point for this thread to discuss how EEE have changed over the years, because believe me, when you really like a show, you DO notice changes as the seasons progress.
