I've always wondered if Groening was a Stanley Kubrick fan. Im a huge fan and Ive always noticed kubrick references in the simpsons, there might be some in his other works but I only know the one from the simpsons. Like bart dressing up as Alex Delarge for halloween and Mr. Burns making Santa's little helper watch film after film using the Luvadko treatment, and of course the 2001 refernces. Anyway has anyone else noticed this in his other works and is he a big fan or is this just putting pop culture refrences in the show?

There was also the reference to Dr. Strangelove and The Shinning, but than again he only directed the movie. I'm only assuming they are just pop culture references I don't know for sure.

I'd say Groening is probably a fan of Kubrick, but I wouldn't say he's been influenced by him.

I wouldn't say he's influenced either. i would say he's a fan showing homage. In the Tree house of horrors there were a lot of twilight zone refs. Futurama there's a lot of refers to older sci-fi and even sci-fi literature not adapted to screen as of yet.

The man has pop culture references all throughout the show. The first 6-7 seasons were thick with them. I know I'm not the only guy who had to write essays in English class in highschool about all the allusions Groening created to other literary and film artwork. The show has really died down in these terms lately. Futurama still has quite a few, though.
