The actual event is held on July 30th. It airs on G4 on August 8th though.

However, fanboys have ruined the voting process, so you can pretty much guess which is going to win already. Just, no one ask why Windwaker wasn't nominated. It's a topic already beaten into the ground. -_-

EDIT: Well, G Phoria took place last night. I didn't watch it, but Vice City won game of the year. Like I said, fanboys ruined the voting process.

I was there. Was quite fun and interesting. Didn't have a chance to hear what won what though, so I'm quite excited to see it air on the 8th so I can see what I missed!

Probably because it was released in 2003. Makes sense to me.

Vice City doesn't even deserve to be nominated.

Sure it does. It's big, open-ended, non-linear, full of variety, fun to play... yeah, I would have given Metroid Prime the nod before Vice City, but GTA would be a close second choice.

Strange, and here I was thinking it was a very playable game that certainly deserves some recognition at the very least... :p

I've had great fun playing that title. Whether it should win is another matter, but I don't think it's an outrageous scandal for it to get game of the year.. you may not like how it did so, but it is a fine game nevertheless.

I'm just saying that a game that revolves around drugs, sex, stealing cars, shooting people, and running them over, for no apparent reason, with glitchy gameplay doesn't deserve to be nominated for best game.

But it does have the best VG soundtrack I've ever heard, so I'll give it that.

I'm surprised that AC is even nominated for best game. I don't think it should be a nominee. Sure it's a cool game, but it should be nominated under something like "Most Innovative", or somethin'.

Pfft, I watched my brother play Metroid Prime, and I think that wins for presentation value alone. It's like how Cowboy Bebop wins best anime series of all time, because it has presentation value that no other has.

The shooting/drugs/sex/running people over for no apparent reason is what made the game so fun. Regardless of the morality, such non linear gameplay is very addictive. Let me tell you, it's rather rewarding! :) (After 20 years of linear games, such anarchic freedom is VERY satisfying!!)..

I understand, and I'm sure it wasn't THE best original game (since it was really just an update of the previous GTA), but it was good. And a fantastic update too. The additional elements added to the game really finished it off. An intelligent update.

Oh, and I found no real bugs in my copy...

But I know what you're saying, and it's the same for every industry whether it be music, art or film. Those with the money get the exposure, that get the public support. That's life. How many people here enjoyed X-Men 2? I wonder how many people in comparison saw a classy independent flick (you can tell I wasn't one of them since I know of none that came out this year.. :p). We're all guilty of the fanboy culture in one genre or another.

I'm just happy that a GOOD game one - even if it did make the results rather predictable.. but again, same in all artistic genres...
