View Full Version : I've been cursed!?!?

I was opening up my e-mail and apparently I've done something to be cursed by a witch. I can't think of anything that I've done that was remotely offensive. Okay, maybe it was this story I posted on FF.net:
See I've been getting both praise and hate about a fic called A word for that feeling (http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1343227) that involves the new Ed Brubaker Cat Woman.
Anyway, some people loved it, and others hated it. I got some e-mails a few months ago when I first posted, telling me to stop it. Not to be deterred, I updated a few days ago, to end up with an e-mail from a witch telling me that I'd "ignored her warnings" and now I was being cursed. Go figure, people are that uptight about a comic book character.
I considered that maybe it was a virus thing and I'm still prepared for that, but I also have to wonder whether or not this is the real deal. What do you guys think?

Even if curses are real, any type of witch today would probably just be said to do curses from stereotypes. So really, what it would be is just nonsense. She might be into Wicca and taking it wrongly, either way don't worry about it any. Just another moron talking outta their rear.

This is kinda funny, actually. 10 cyber bucks says that your "witch" was a 40-year-old man with nothing better to do than to harass people because he doesn't like their fanfics.
Hopefully, it was just a harmless prank, and you can continue on your merry way. :)

Morbo hopes you and all foolish humans are cursed by witches to live a life on a puny mostly water covered planet forever! or until your puny bodies cease to function, whichever comes first.

Honestly, what could anyone have against your story? Are they against pairing the Bat & Cat in general? The first part was really good (haven't had a chance to look at the new chapter yet).
I wouldn't worry about a 'curse'. It's just a very sick individual who's trying to play with your mind. Delete and never look back! :D
*sends tNc some good mojo* :)

Jedigreedo: I've cooled out since initially reading it. I'm not particularly worried about it anymore, but I was angry at the thought that they'd be angry enough to put myself as well as those around me in jeopardy. That and I'm religiously opposed to such bad vibes being sent out towards somebody. How negative.
StarScream64: That lifted my spirits.:p I was actually more angry at the person who'd e-mailed me next telling me how dumb I was to be writing a fic like that. It kills me how utterly disgusting people can be. At least the person who e-mailed me way back the first time I put up the fic was polite about it and commented on how intelligent I seemed to them. Sheesh.
Supermonkey: I don't know if that's supposed to be a joke or not, but I guess I'll have no choice but to take my eternity trapped on earth with dignity.
Calico: I know right? I'm usually what people could call a likeable person. I guess fanfic'er's over there don't agree. And it seems they're overly sentimental about the Jim Balent era Catty. Personally I'm more attracted to the new one because she just seems so much more realistic, that and she's a better role model in my opinion. Yup, apparently I'm the fool who supports DC's taking a strong female model and making her into a: (I quote with no disrespect to the person who originally sent me this) "...and made her into a confused weak squeezetoy for the writer's own standin." I had no idea I was setting woman's rights so far backwards. Go figure. I guess there's just no pleasing people. That person also told me to stick with Jim Lee's Hush (which I love and buy when I can find it) and other fan fiction. Who knew fans could be so close-minded? Oh yeah, thanks for the good mojo.
P.S. I guess now isn't the time to post more "Broken" (parts 1 (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=1579) and 2 (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=60925))over there, since it's only got Supes being an iconoclast, not to mention an adulterer and treasonist, huh? People are too sensitive.

Ahh, now Calico you went and hurt my feelings... how will I ever get over it? I'm the sensitive type, and your thought provoking brilliance makes it all the harder :(

yeah I was just kidding, good luck with things, I don't think you need to worry about anything though re: the curse.

This reminds me of an e-mail I just got. It had a picture of some dead girl with a caption that said if I didn't send the e-mail to 15 people, she'd come to my bed at night and kill me. I don't believe all that, but the picture sure did creep me out. Damn rotton.com...

OH yeah! I've totally stopped going there, it that damn pig movie that got me. I got all depressed. Glad to see someone else is just as morbidly disturbed as I.
I think you're trying to imply that this is spam. Well I guess it could be, it was pretty random, but I don't spread my e-mail address around the net willy-nilly so I can't figure out how they got my name out of the hat.

Funny.:p It just goes to show that people are actually more obsessed with comic book characters and continuity than I am.

Awww tNC, first off, don't be worried about some silly curse. If you don't believe in them, they won't happen. :p
Still, I must say, that all this negative publicity now has made me more...eager to see what all the fuss is about. :) I think I just may go amble on over to check that action out.
(Oh yeah, I agree with how the revamped Catwoman is much, much better than before. She was just getting too unreal in the previous series...)

I wouldn't worry too much. If you get paranoid you just might make something happen.

I think that whoever that idiot is, they're giving real witches, ie people who follow the Pagan or Wiccan path a bad name.
Without getting myself put in a straitjacket and pushed out of the door I also have to say that anyone who truly believes in their own ability to cast curses also knows they are not something you would mess about with lightly for what you give out will come back to you in spades and I find the idea of someone sitting at a computer and typing out that they have cursed you for something as inoffensive as a piece of fanfiction just ludicrous.
That email you recieved is the work of a coward, someone relying on intimidation and not able to nor have the courage to offer constructive criticism. Forget it and go on with your writing, words can't hurt you.

My thoughts exactly. I know a couple of witches, and they don't go around 'cursing' people just because they don't like what another person does or writes. More or less, your 'curse' was an empty threat by some person with too much time on their hands.

*does something to keep Runey out of a straight jacket* :D
Yeah, there can be real wackos out there who do things like that just to get attention and scare people. I wouldnt worry about it. Real practioners of Wicca and Neo-Paganism dont curse... only bind those who harm others for the reasons Rune explained.
Nah, I'd chalk this "curse" giving person up to being an agst-ridden kid. Please continue to write, tNC! Id love to read some! :)
I am looking for someone to renew the 100 year curse on the Boston Red Sox, though... any takers? My girlfriend wont do it because she hates the Yankees :D j/k :)

tNC, I wouldn't worry about that curse either.
But, that's easier said then done. You see some one cursed my mothre to her face about 10 years back. She believed all of it and now she is always sick yet doctors say nothing is wrong with her. I keep trying to convince her that she is only "cursed" becasue she believes she is cursed. Blah, blah, blah... she's still trying to find out how to counter the curse. :(
I hope NOTHING like that happens to you. It's all power of suggestion and all that. BE strong!
The person who emailed you must be some wierdo. If s/he didn't like your fic so what? The person should have stopped reading it. It's not like your fic threatened him to read it or else.
[I'm sorry if any thing I said sounded negative. It's just my family has been victim of many "curses".]

As of today, I have lived two whole days cursed, and somehow managed to procure more comics for my collection than I have in the past year. (Including the new Batman: Hush hardcover. But sadly couldn't find Selina's Big Score anywhere. A year later and they're still sold out.) I also brought great thai food, visited my share of places, and managed not to even stubb my toe or hit my head in the process.
I think maybe they got the curse wrong or something. :p
Now I don't believe in luck, but if I did, I'd say this was the luckiest streak ever.
Who knew getting cursed could be so much fun?
tNC
P.S. thanks everyone for all the advice and encouragement. Glad to know I'm not alone in thinking some people are just a little too wrapped up in their special place.

I'm glad things are going well for you! That's the way to show 'em! :D
You didn't subb your toe and hit your head? I managed to do that a total of 5 times today. I'm such a clutz. Hope things keep going well for you! :anime:
I wouldn't worry about it. Any one can say, "I curse you", but it takes a huge amount of energy to actually do it. Anyhow, unless s/he has something of yours, curses are very personal, s/he probably couldn't do squat. Anyhow, there is such a thing as Kharma, so people rarely cast curses unless they are infuriated, or very desperate. I doubt s/he'd do something so dangerous over something as trivial as a fan-fic.

Nope, WingZombie38, I've been having a klutz free time, which is pretty good for me, because I've had some pretty interesting falls, usually involving water or yogurt (!!!) and my head or feet. It's kinda sad actually.
And Alex, yes I too know that it's a big risk putting those kinda vibes out in the universe. Either this person is nuts or doesn't care. I can almost appreciate the tireless devotion to Catty, but geez, there's a thin line between love and obsession. Just ask your local stalker.
