The latest LT DVD rumor is up at DVDFile, click here (http://www.dvdfile.com/news/special_report/events/studio_day/2001/warner.html).
Here is the quote:
[Warner Home Video] is working on a Looney Toons collection for release sometime in the future, though due to the amount of work required it may not arrive in 2002.

When I read it at the site earlier I thought it said "until 2002." This makes a lot more sense.
Well, this doesn't bother me too much. (1) It's a rumor, they say it might not be done until 2002. (2) I would rather have them spend more time on it and do a good job than rush something out just to meet a deadline.

All the mystery surrounding this DVD thing...."they're planning it"...."no they aren't"...."Yes they are".......makes me think that they are doing some special project and think it would be a waste of time to release random cartoons, perhaps the blue ribbon restored versions or lost bonus material are planned instead. They probably figure that they can't do a complete unedited remastered run in Japan due to some of the racist WWII stuff against them, so there is no real holdup for PC stuff like Tweety. Besides, I don't really mind, they can take their time, I want to wait until they come out with a basic DVD play and record unit that works just like VHS only with its digital quality...I think they'll have more lasting power than Laserdisk, but they need to make them recordable, then I'll get one.

As long as I can trade with others from the board, I think I can wait. I might be too old at the time to notice...:p

maybe we can make a pool of it -
pick the year in which you think WB will release region 1 DVD's of the LT/MM's.
for extra credit, guess the year in which the uncut 'The Isle of Pingo Pongo' will be released by WB:rolleyes:
when WHAT freezes over?...

This site (http://www.archivalmovie.com/cartoona.htm) has a bunch of movies called VCDs. My DVD seems to be able to play these things. Scroll down and there are quite a few Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry VCDs. They have ALL of the T&J videos in this format, and those Bugs Bunny & Friends discs (in VCD) which were released in Japan on LD.

I think WB found out how many pre-1948 cartoons needed to be re-composited and restored for color...
WB did start the remastering last summer, but I think they've waited TOO long.
WB should release volumes of post-1948 cartoons first...
I can wait, as long as it is of good quality when it actually gets released. Which means virtually all cartoons made before at least 1951 need some kind of restoration...

I originally posted on this on the DVD board, but I thought I'd put it here as well. On the subject of restoration, I've been hearing that WB is doing very limited restoration on the post 1948 cartoons. However, the pre 1948 cartoons have been left virtually untouched. From what I understand, the folks at Warner Home Video don't see that there is really a market (for adults OR children) for these classic shorts on DVD.
I'm interested in hearing what people would want on Looney Tunes DVDs - I'm considering starting a petition in the near future and could use your input.
Would you want them released chronologically? In "Best Of" collections? Some other way?
What kind of supplemental materials would you want to see on them?
What else would you want Warner Bros. to know?
Any input would be appreciated. :)

By now, it's very apparent that Warner Bros. is simply stringing us along with vague promises until video-on-demand is here, and they can then forever deny collectors ownership of their
favorite cartoons.
I now have the Japanese Tweety DVDs, and the quality is awesome, far better than LD. If those cartoons can be released now and look as good as they do, then surely the other post-1948s can as well, without need of more years of restoration- if Warners were really interested in doing it. They seem to be interested if it's in some place other than North America.
If I believed that Warner Bros. had any interest in releasing Looney Tunes DVDs, I'd vote for character-based collections. They could complete the Tweety collection (I'm more than a little miffed that "Hyde And Go Tweet" isn't on the Japanese DVDs), then a Road Runner collection and then a post-1948 Bugs Bunny collection, Daffy Duck collection, and Foghorn Leghorn, Pepe, and Speedy,
with a Supporting Players set as well. If they ever get around to improving on the pre-1948s, perhaps the GAOLT sets could then be reissued. If not, release them anyway.
Academic, though. We can only hope that the Japanese DVDs sell well and will continue.
BTW, two Tweety cartoons not on DVD are "Tweety And the Beanstalk" and "Trip For Tat", two cartoons with Oriental caricatures. Coincidence?
