Without a doubt one of the greatest action comedies of all time. Funny characters, original concept, expert writing. It deserved an Oscar.

I just picked up the new DVD Box Set (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=146867) for this movie and the sequel (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=147101) and I'm glad I did. I remember this being one of my favorite movies of my childhood and I can see why now. It's a great comedy and probably the best action comedy made. An excellent cast and a great premise really did make for a one of a kind movie. It still holds up pretty strongly this day and age too.

A true classic of the 80's. Regrettably, it also spawned one of the single worst sequels ever made.

A classic movie with humor, paranormal activies, and fun. Truly a classic of the era, with some of the funniest people ever.
Even though it spawned a medicore squeal, I thoguht the cartoon series was great.
5 out of 5.

This is one of my favorite movies. Great cast, great humor, fun ghosts. I loved Mr. Staypufft Marshmallow man he was so cool even though he did leave a big mess in the end. I give this movie four stars.

This is probably one of the easiest to quote movies I've ever seen. Somewhere between "I am the key-master. Are you the gate-keeper?" and "Aim for the flat-top!", I just fell in love with this movie.
Plus how can you hate a movie where "The Destructor" is the Stay-Puft Marshmellow Man?

Great movie. I can still remember the toys that came out, and the commercials. "We ain't afraid of no... ghosts!" :)

??? I thought the sequel was just as funny. Maybe not as classic, but funny.

I love the Ghostbusters. I had it taped off television and watch it ever day after school. I would sit my Ghostbuster action figures next to me so they could watch also. It got scarier each time I watched it, which was weird since it was a comedy foremost.
I also loved the Real Ghostbusters cartoon series and Extreme Ghostbusters.
When kids wanted to be a doctor, lawyer or fireman in school, I couldn't understand it. I wanted to be a Ghostbuster.

Words can't express how much I love this film. While I don't run around making my own proton pack I can quote the movie like crazy and still get filled with joy every time the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man appears. It's a shame the whole franchise only had two good video games based off of it.

I thought it was pretty good. Not like "best movie ever" good, and not in my fave movies list good, but good all the same.
Defentlly a classic, the oringatlly and lack of dating makes it so

New Ghostbusters II (The Hal Labs one) and Ghostbusters Genesis correct?
Exactly and I own both along with the crappy first one on the NES.
I haven't got the new set, but I've got the original Ghostbusters disc, so I popped it in after work, and throughly enjoyed it. It's got some of the greatest quotes in a movie ever.
"We came, we saw, we kicked it's ass!"
"Back off man, I'm a scientist"
RAY: "Everything was going fine until dickless here shut off our power grid"
MAYOR: "Is this true?"
PETER: "It is true... this man has no dick."
PETER: I gotta split, the Mayor want to rap with me about some things!
PETER: Whatever it is, it's gotta get by us.... GO GET HER RAY!"
PETER: We've been going about this all wrong, this Mr. Stay Puft's okay, he's a sailor, he's in New York, we get this guy laid we won't have any trouble!
Bill Murray simply delievers throughout. Easily his best work. Great soundtrack too. One of the best movies of it's kind.

Definitely a modern classic, and a must-see movie. It's just a shame that Murray doesn't want to come back for a third one after the painfully bad sequel.
I really liked it, i hadn't watched it in a long time and i remember it was slow but goodbut i was a little kid so that is a major factor, i really enjoyed it, i am so glad i bought this set. I just feel Winston has a weak background, i mean not all of them had to be scientists, but he just came and "you got the job" :/
it's just a smal nitpick

I bought the first movie on DVD 2 years ago, but never got around to buying the sequel. Should I still buy this new set, which looks awesome anyway? If I do, should I get rid of the original DVD of the first movie? BTW, it's pretty cool to see my old thread resurrected of my favorite movie.:D

I think you should! Because not only you’ll get both movies you’ll also get two episodes of the cartoon series.

A classic sci-fi comedy right out of the 80's that still holds up to this day.
Other lines that I love that haven't been mentioned:
"Mayor, you would be responsible for saving the lives of millions of registered voters."
And the legendary:
"Lets show this prehistoric b**ch how we do things down town."
Also has one of, if not the best pieces of theme music to a movie.

What else can be said? This movie gets funnier every time I see it. I kind of wish the MST3K-style commentary on the DVD was more MST3K-like, but how can you make fun of a good comedy?

it's just a smal nitpickEven when I first saw this movie as a kid he seemed thrown in, like an afterthought in a late draft of the script. (Possibly to fulfill a diversity requirement?) He's not even on the poster or listed among the "main" cast members, but I've always viewed the four Ghostbusters as equal partners and am displeased that the publicity seemed to downplay him.

maybe winston couldnt make it to the publicity shoots because we was working on an advertising campaign for twinkies ;). it must have fell through because winston made it to all the ghostbusters 2 publicity.
i dont think winston was randomly added to the movie at the last minute. he was originally to join the ghostbusters before they got famous and was to be with them at the sedgwick hotel.

All this Winston talk makes me wonder how bigger his part would have been if Eddie Murphy had been in the role. Now that's an 80s all star comedy cast of a movie. Fit in Steve Martin and John Candy and you've got the who's who of 80s comedy movies.

I can't believe I didn't comment on this thread when it was created in 2003, or resurrected in '05!
This was my ALL-TIME favorite movie for about seven years, and I still quote it constantly. :)
"I'm petrified beyond the capacity for rational thought."
"Nice shootin', Tex!"
"The superintendent's going to be pissed."
"Let's show this prehistoric b***h how we do things downtown."
"When someone asks you if you're a *God*, you say "YES"!"

Wasn't Winston supposed to be sort of the audience surrogate? The one we could most relate to because he's not a scientist like the others, holds know degrees, but is just a regular guy applying for a job because he needs the money.
Great movie, and endlessly quotable: "Okay, so... she's a dog." "I feel like the floor of a taxi cab." "Back off, man. I'm a scientist." And one of my favorites, "Human sacrifices, dogs and cats living together; mass hysteria!"
I feel so old, though. I remember seeing Ghostbusters in the theater, so I was about five years old. Hard to believe the movie is 23 years old now!

He was originally suppose to be more capable at handling the equipment and at the entire ghostbusting than Peter, Egon and Ray. You pretty much nailed the reason why they changed that.
