Didn't see a talkback thread for this book, but I was wondering what people thought of it. (Possible spoilers)

I have been slightly underwhelmed with Joe Casey's run on this book of late. Though it's still tons better than Seagle over on "Superman", I'm a little tired of such standby plots as "the town where everyone has powers" and "the writer/artist who's creations come to life". And the first part of this "Mxy-as-twins" wasn't exactly thrilling either.

However, my opinion has completely changed after this latest issue. I'm not much of a reviewer, so I'll just count down what I loved about this issue:

Cancelling Earth's gravity is the first genuinely chilling threat Mxy has ever pulled off. Much improved from his dastardly "parade balloons gone wild"-type stunts of recent memory.

Superman immediately calling in the JLA to help. It's always bugged me that the same hero will either ask for or ignore help, based on if the trouble occurs in his own title or in "JLA".

Even though this is Supes' book, I'm glad that it was really only the two Green Lanterns who had the power to keep Earth from cracking apart.

The Mxy twins' idea to "create a retcon" was absolutely hilarious, and it also neatly tied up an uninteresting-yet-unresolved mystery from several months back.

I wouldn't have thought of it, but Casey has a genuine grasp of DCU continuity. In one issue we get cameos and/or mentions of the Rocket Reds, Colu, Ungara, and Maltus.

I also liked the high-concept, Morrison-esque pseudo-science used, and the fact that it was Superman who came up with it. Since every character is written as smart as Reed Richards over in "JLA", it's nice to see some of that leak into the solo books.

Casey is like, the FIRST writer in five years to remember that the post-Crisis Mxy doea NOT use the "backwards-name" thing anymore, and that it takes something different to banish him every time (in this case, purchasing the encyclopedias).

For the first time, I am actually looking forward to Mxy's next visit, where he promises to be a real super villain. Amazing that it's taken this long for someone to expand on Alan Moore's idea from "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow".

Well, with "Man of Steel" cancelled, at last I can say the majority of Superman books are readable again (really can't stand Seagle's run so far). Here's hoping "World's Finest" provides the trifecta.
