View Full Version : About Wolf's Rain's Summary Episodes

In the "Bandai announces..." thread, JeffTMBG said that "Wolf's Rain would have been great for Adult Swim if it wasn't for those four summary episodes". Well, I've noticed something interesting about those four episodes...
That show is chock full of symbolism/references/modern reworkings pretaining to the stories of Jesus and the Revelations in the Bible. Some of these things include the red moon (red dragon), Kiba himself (Jesus), the disappearance of millions (the Rapture), and their search for "paradise" (heaven). The four summary episodes are no different. Those four episodes, which feature for different retellings of the story from four different points-of-view, are meant to symbolize the four Gospels.

ok....why would it have been great if it weren't for those episodes? do they suck or something? or are people just sick of biblical references?

It's not that, it's just that (I finally got to them >_O;;; ) four friggin' recap episodes in a row is kinda hard to handle.

I do believe it was announced that the four recap episodes weren't originally intended to be part of the series. Bones was behind on production, and rather than take the show off the air for four weeks to catch up (which they'd already done once), they decided to quickly splice together four recap episodes to air instead. The series is still going to be 26 episodes, but with the recaps, it adds up to 30. It's not yet clear if the recap episodes will even be included in the show's final cut.
Back when the same people were producing Cowboy Bebop, I believe they also made a recap episode which aired somewhere in the middle of it's run (IIRC, it switched to a PPV type station afterwards). Cowboy Bebop's recap episode wasn't included in its final cut, and I suspect that will be the case for Wolf's Rain... but who knows.

Nah, the Biblical references are pretty obscure, aside from "paradise", and even that has its more secular interpretations. Heck, the Biblical references in .hack//SIGN are more heavy handed than in Wolf's Rain. Nevertheless, the references are still there.
People are just sick of four recaps in a row. ;-)

When Cowboy Bebop originally aired, 14 out of 26 episodes were cut due to the insane censorship climate at the time(thank you very much Evangelion!). To finish up with 13 episodes, they made that recap episode. Not really one of the 26 episodes, it was just there as filler, hense it hasn't been officially released.
Very happy about the WR news. I stopped watching the fansubs cause of those recaps, glad to know it won't screw over the whole series. I wouldn't mind if they do what they're (apparantly) doing with RahXephon and skip them completely on the official release.

Glad to hear the recap eps weren't just a horrible error in judgement. I don't know what some of the hardcore fans might think, but I'm hoping those eps don't make the official cut.

Not sure if I'm happy or not with that news, but they did reconfirm the fact that it's in addition to to the regular 26 episodes, so it's not like we're being cheated out of anything...
Still, this is going to be a pain to explain to people if it ever airs on Cartoon Network, which it very likely will.

Well it depends on how important it is to the overall story. The Kikaider Recap episode contributed nothing to the story so it was cut, but they aired the Trigun recap episode, which had a little to deal with the story (the people who saw it know what I'm talking about) so are the 4 Wolf's Rain episodes have to deal with the story at all?

Ok I realise this os horredously off topic, but I've heard this said a nuimber of times and noone has been able to give me a definitive answer. What EXACTLY did Evangelion do that was so bad, it's nothjing compared to alot of other things I've seen, before and after the show. So what was it that pushed the censor's buttons so much?
On Topic: I'd get really sick of 4 clip shows too, one is usually more than enough for me. but for us jsut crazy, why didn't they jsut RERUN the damn things? it's better than trying to pass off a "new" ep with just clips of previous ones, let alone FOUR.
