Well here are the winners. Nice to see some different faces winning. So without further ado.

Winner of the CONCEPT catagory (and also the artist receiving the most points in total) PYROMANICX
http://pratt.edu/~jstone/june/pyromaniax.jpg

Winner of the best PENCILS catagory, ALIENFIRST
http://pratt.edu/~jstone/june/alienfirst.jpg#

Winner of the best use of COLOUR catagory - TIMTWOFACE http://pratt.edu/~jstone/june/tim2face.jpg

So well done all. Silverknight gets a mention for doing well in all catagories but Pyro seemed to catch everyones attention with his great pic!

Like I said, the results were a far more spread than before which is good. Normally, while most would get a vote, it would be a competition merely fought by three. Here, everyone did well. Some better than others quite clearly, but EVERYONE had good representation - and that's how it is supposed to be. Nice to see some more unusual and less CG orientated pics getting such attention!

Thanks all for voting and submitting. It's been fantastic. Some feedback on the comp and the new rules would be helpful.

so with this new method, we do away with 2nd and 3rd places? Awww.... lol.

Very cool! Go everyone, especially Pyro! Yours was such an enjoyable concept, and to draw so many different Disney characters was very cool and you pulled it off perfectly.

you know, we ought to do winner's banners lol, so people can have bragging rights on their web page... if they have web pages LOL.

---as Alienfirst is like "What!? Banners? I have to make more banners?"

hehe:elle:

Yeah, fraid so. It took a loong time calculating the votes. I think three winners (as well as overall which happened to be Pyro anyway by a large distance) is enough!

I'd like to thank the people of Toon Zone for voting for me. I put a lot of work into my pic, and I'm sure all of you did too, so I'd also like to congratulate the other entants of the comp! :) I guess it's time to change my signiture now. http://images.bravenet.com/brpics/smilie/17_wink.gif

Congrats to the winners.:) I think those were all the ones I voted for.

Eh, I wasn't really expecting to win on my first time out anyway.

To all the winners I present to you a :donald: (mostly because he's the only Disney smiliey we've got.)

You did very well actually. I'm not really one for giving out details - I don't think it's condusive to the community, but yes you did do very well.

I liked that one too but I agree, PyroManiacX dserved to win something. Hmm several of my votes won but I'm having trouble remembering who I voted for in each catergory. Oh well.

for some reason I enjoyed it knowing there was a chance to get 2nd or 3rd. With this, there are 3 seperate areas but it's less of a chance to get anything for example, in pencil or not. it's either pencil or it isnt.

boy it's hard to come up with a system for this.

Whoo! I actually got top spot for one of these contests - after five tries I finally did it! *DANCES A JIG*

Congrats to Pyro and Alienfirst and all the others out there that submitted their works, and thanks to all those that took part in the voting! :) There was a time where I thought that this Disney idea wasn't really rubbing the DB members the right way, but it's nice to see that everyone pulled it off in the end.

Yeah, I kinda miss that, too. Maybe next month we can add that in. :)

We're looking at changing the catagories AGAIN! :p I was bouncing ideas off Barb and SK last night which was very helpful. My idea was something like this:

Concept: The idea. How good was the idea put into it? Which picture has the best concept?

Layout: The plan. How it's layed out. Does the pic draw you in? Is it well balanced on the page, or does it all float too much to the left? Which picture has the best layout?

Tools: The application of pencils/ink/colour/CG. Which picture has the best linework/colour?

From an arty perspective, we are looking thus at the three stages of a drawing. The idea in the head, the plan, and the application of technique. As I was saying to SK, this maybe a little complicated for some. What do you think?

As for 2nd and 3rds. I'm reluctant still. That would mean we'd have up to 10 names up there. If we have 15 people submitting, you have an excess winners (up to 10) to those who didn't (just 5!). You end up highlighting those who didn't win to those who did, and I think that will make it too competitive.

I'm happy to give a basic run down (it was even/only several people really got votes/Silverknight was leading till late etc) but I'm not comfortable to add more winners. I'd rather have more rather than less that lost. I think that makes losing a lot easier. This isn't league table stuff! :) It's fun!

Now I like Pyro's work. It is so true that these straight-to-video sequels are killing our perceptions of Disney. (remember that SNL sketch Bambi 2000?)

I liked the idea of being able to place 2nd or 3rd because with the system we did for the last, you have to be the BEST to get any sort of mention.

I know I can't be the best in any area, I just don't have what it takes, so I end up shooting for 3rd or 2nd at best. It may sound pretty stupid or weak, but it's what I usually do for something fun like this (not school... thats a different strategy). Doing away with 2nd and 3rd kinda throws it off whack.

I also liked to see 2nds and 3rds because there is a lot of work that deserves getting a place, and all of them deserve mention and thats what 2nd and 3rd helped do.

The hard thing is, I like the different areas because I got to vote for different areas of work. I had fun stopping and looking and figuring out what I liked best for each area of work. It was hard but fun lol.

Maybe we can do an Art Gallery for July where people just take the theme and do the art for it without having to vote. We can focus on the process of drawing (sketches, inks, finals) rather than just the result. I loved seeing sketches this time around and it was fun to see where they started and where they ended up.

Thanks a lot Viper! It’s nice to know how much you liked it.:) I might’ve not won, but I’m glad I was able to participate. Congratulations to the winners! :)

Oh, and since SJJ was asking for feedback on the new rules, I must say that I preferred the old ones. I liked having second and third place winners, and they weren’t as complicated, imo.

I personally like the idea of having both. A top three should be listed in all three categories. Then we get the best of both worlds. :)

If we had more entries I'd agree, but if we get just 15, and we have a potential 10 winners, that seems unbalanced to say the least.

As for the old system, it's up to you. The old one will mean the same people will win, this system gives the opportunity for people to judge the merits of different styles and different artists.

I'll run either system, although I'm yet to be convinced that ranking each catagory is a good thing with such a small group of entrants.
