I haven't really been into Mega Man since around the time MM Legends was new. So I was wondering can anyone explain the seperate Megaman Universes to me? What games they are and such. Last I knew there were just three, MM, MMX and Legends. I' know jack-squat about Battle Network. And I never really understood if any of them were the same.
Can anyone help me out?
I assume that all the universes are seperated based on the series.
Megaman 1-8 would be one universe.
Megaman 1-4 on Gameboy is another.
Megaman Legends 1(or Megaman 64), 2, and Adventures of Tron Bonne would be another.
Megaman Battle Network 1-3 and Network Transmission would be one more.
I'm not sure about the MMX series since Zero seems to pop in and out of them. And there's always exceptions like Megaman Soccer and games like Marvel vs. Capcom if you want to make it complicated.

Technically, the original and the X series take place in the same continuity.
*needs to get around to buying MMX 5-6, and to beat X4 with Zero*

Well, there's been some talk of all the games taking place in the same continuity. They'd have to be in an enormously disjointed and confusing timeline, but it's definitely possible.

not really the only real contimuity flub would be Dr Light CONSTANTLY leaving armor upgrades all over the place for X to find them hundreds of years in the future.
X4 STRONGLY hinted that Zero was built by DrWily. A Megaman arcade gae had an ending with Bass where he confronts Wily , who shows his robot the plans for his next "big" bot. Its a silouette of Zero and Bass even comments that it looks "girly".
so yeah, same univere there.
I'm having trouble understanding how the MMX sereis and XXZero are united, they share the same characters, but Zero seals himself away at the end of MMX6, yet he's apparenmtly in MMX7. OMGWTF!?

Ok, it goes like this:
MM1-8 and Bass
50 or so yrs later is MMX series.
Dr Wily built Zero sometime after the incident with King
Light built X, but sealed him away
Wily never finished Zero
Zero wakes up, and destroys Reploids until Sigma beats him, but is infected with the Zero Virus
X is discovered by Dr Cain
MMX1-6 take place
MMX7
or
MMX6's Zero ending has Zero locking himself up in a capsule for 100 yrs
100 yrs later is when the MMZero series takes place
Alternate Universe #1:
MMLegends
Alternate Universe #2:
MegaMan Network Series
The original MegaMan games and the MMX series take place in the same continuity (MMX takes place somewhere around a hundred years later) but much of what happened in those hundred years is a mystery (particularly the question of what happened to the original characters).

X7 took place after X4 and before/during X5.
MZero1 took place after X6.
So, unless Capcom decides otherwise, X6 is the end of X series in that period.

One problem I see with that.
From what I know, Reploids didn't exist as a race until after X was discovered, and was used as a model for all future reploids. So, how could Sigma be around before X?
Of course, as I mentioned before, I don't know everything about the series, and from what I understand, after X4, the human race isn't even mentioned.

From what I recall it says in the manual of MMX1, Sigma turned shortly before X was awakened, maybe not found, but it was before he woke up because Zero was a good guy by then.
Now how does X7 take place inbetween X4 and X5? If that is the case, it means X7 is just another waste of a story that will not tell what happens because X5 and X6 haven't happened yet.

The X series is obscure already. X6 starts from one of the endings from X5. In X6, three weeks have passed. In X5, three years have passed. Anyway, trying to combine Legends and .EXE with the original and the X series is too complicated. Just leave them as seperate entities and enjoy the games.
Later.

Actually, I'd say even the original/X continuity is so disjointed that, at this point, it's silly to even try to make sense of it. X5 and X6 had so many nonsensical developments that I simply can't get a bead on what the hell is going on in the X-verse by now. All those plot holes don't help.
What I'd like to see is Capcom going back to the non-hackeneyed world of the original Megaman. Then we can skip the angsty anime-esque drama of the X series.
Trying to follow Megaman's story after X3 and 7 is next to impossible. I don't even try.

I still don't understand how Zero died (yet again) in X5 and just SHOWS UP in X6 and everyone's all like, "oh, hi Zero". That is IMPUDENCE!
so X7 takes place between X4 and X5......riiiiiiiiiight.

See the thing with Zero is that Wily planned ahead and equipped him with a programming subroutine known as the "Kenny" virus, basically it's like the sigma virus only it renders anything it infects immortal but at the cost of coherency
