Hi,

I recently rediscovered a great show. And unless you didn't read the header, you've probably already guessed what it is: You Can't Do That on Television. Are there any other fans of YCDTOTV here? (As you can tell by my avatar, I'm a big fan.)

Not really a fan, but I saw it on Nickelodeon when it aired. Not really my cup of tea, though :/ Not a horrible show, either.

LOL! Well I don't know WHAT you would call me but I DID watch the show regularly. Those were the days....although, that show was sure disgusting! It was in a comedic way, though. One thing is for sure, I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Would that happen to be on Cable or Digital Cable? I noticed something that really gripes me. I have IO Digital Cable (not by choice, by monopoly :p) and I've noticed the channels you can't get unless you have IO are the ones where ALL OF THE SHOWS ARE THAT I GREW UP WITH. Specifically, in my NY area I'm talking about the 120s, as far as channels go. Anyway, that is a terrible terrible crime to put all those in the attic while we raise kids on getting baggy pants beepers and cell phones while they're 10 years old! That is without a doubt the worst thing in the world.

Babble aside, if the show is on cable I wouldn't mind catching it once or twice again.

The ultimate site for the show is YCDTOTV.com (http://ycdtotv.com/). There, I finally remembered the name of the original series (Whatever Turns You On, featuring Ruth Buzzi), which I'd forgotten for many years. I also found out that Vik Sahay (from another favorite show, Radio Active) was on the show for a while. :) So was Alanis Morrisette. I think my favorite member would have to be Christine "Moose" McGlade.

The problem with the show now is that it's still owned by the Ottawa network called CJOH, which began airing the show in '79. There are no plans by them to release episodes for airing or to produce new ones. If they did, CJOH would have to pay everyone who was every associated with the show, so don't hold your breath. :p

Probably my favorite homage to the show was a site called "You Can't Do That on Star Trek," which, unfortunately, doesn't exist anymore. :( There is, however, a site that contains galleries of the pictures that the original site wouldn't accept: You Can't on "You Can't" (http://www.bones3d.com/trek/). Some pretty amusing stuff there, but nothing will beat some of the stuff at the original site, especially a couple of the movie poster parodies.

Actually, I read that Carleton Productions, the company that produced the show (and, AFAIK, the owner; CJOH doesn't own it), is working on "clearing the red tape" for a DVD release. (Who knows, it could actually become a reality!)

Oh, man, I LOVED this show as a kid. First thing I'd watch after school...

"The introduction to the opposites."

How disgusting is the chef, Barf, who collects the kids' vomit? I liked it before, but I don't know if I sit through an episode today.

Oops! Yeah, you're right. I just looked at the FAQ at ycdtotv.com and it says that Carleton Productions owns it. At any rate, interesting note you added about a possible DVD. Do you remember where you heard about that?

P.S. I just found this article about Les Lye, which includes a video montage featuring many of his characters and the You Can't...theme! Check it out! (http://www.ottawacomedy.com/LesLye.htm)

Some parts I liked, some I didn't. It was an okay show, and is probably on of Early Nickelodeon's most remembered, even if no one has access to the live hour first season episodes that we never rerun.

I know that I LOVED the show as a kid, but then again, I haven't seen an episode in many, many years, so I couldn't say how well it's aged. I know that there are plenty of shows that I loved as a kid (TMNT comes to mind) that really weren't that enjoyable when I went back and watched it later in life.

Erm, no. Piracy is piracy and TZ does not advocate it's use or be used to advertise such site. I've amended your post. Sorry mate. :)
