Whew! it's been a busy week, but I finally got some new online work done. I was looking over my design for the Golden Age version of my character the Savior and I couldn't shake the feeling that he looked a bit too much like the early Superman. So I went back to the drawing board and completely re-worked the character's appearance. Let me know what you think of his new look, and please give me your honest opinions (as usual).

That's pretty awesome. My only suggestion would be to rethink your choice of colours, and perhaps the number of colours. You've got red and yellow throughout much of the costume (cape, boots, belt). The green top ties into the green power flame, but that flame seems reminiscent of Green Lantern. To me, right now the blue pants seem out of place. So I guess if I was at the helm, I'd drop green altogether and then change the flame's colour to either tie in with the yellow and red or blue parts.

But then again, since this is a Golden Age hero, maybe your colour scheme doesn't need to be so conservative.

can you post the original next to this one?

I like it a lot.

With me, I'm RG colorblind to some extent and when Red and green come together it looks bizarre to me.

I like that energy coming from the hand. I wish I knew how to do that. I'm not sure how to come up with colors that look like light.

I think this is an improvement on your already great work of the past, Trisaber. Know why? The colours are great as always, but the shading job blends in with the surrounding colours, while in your other pics you had three distinct shaded areas with no colour gradations. Both look great, but this one has less of a comic-booky feel and looks more "real". :)

Thanks, folks. Glad to see you're liking my work so far, and I'm even more glad to see people giving their honest opinions, too. I tried to limit the colours to the ones that we most often see in Golden Age superheroes (red, green, blue, black, brown, yellow and white). So putting them in an effective combination proved to be surprisingly difficult. The fact that this is the Golden Age version of the Savior is the reason for his costume being somewhat simplistic by modern standards (especially in the case of the emblem).

I appreciate your comments regarding my colouring, Tim. I wanted to try for something different with this project and go for blending colours rather than the usual "hard edged" animated colouring so that the characters could have more depth.

And Delia, per your request, the two versions are posted below.

Here's the original version ...

oooo I like both for different parts... how about using the red from the first (boots) for the shirt color of the second one? I like the first one a lot but it reminds me of Superman. Hmm...

you know... this is really hard. lol. How about the dark blue from the first, for the pants of the second. I like the logo on the second.

ugh this is so hard! LOL I love them both... and it's so hard for me to come up with some way to tweak the colors. One thing I love better is the boots on the second. it really works with the time frame of the character. That and the mask. A definate improvement.

I like the second one, but it does remind me of the Golden age Green Lantern now...

... I think that no matter how you design a character in golden age fashion, that you'll automatically hit a parallel to a DC or any other Golden Age character. Im not saying it isnt good (far fom it), but you'll hit that wall everytime, partly because everyone has that certain idea about a design of a super hero in the old days of comics. They are all the same basic design (cape, mask/other way to mask identity, basic colors, etc).

No matter how you slice it, creating a Golden Age hero in the Modern Age is difficult (if not impossible) without the character bearing some sort of resemblance to an already existing Golden Age character. Heck, they even had those difficulties back in the 1940s when the Golden Agers were still spring chickens. I cite the similarities between Fawcett's Captain Marvel and DC's Superman as the most glaring example. Another example is the similarity between MLJ/Archie's The Shield (who is, in fact, the first patriotic superhero) and Timely/Marvel's Captain America. But oh well. On to other things ... like the Silver Age Savior (who's on the drawing board right now).

Your a talent TriSaber, your art looks very professional. I loved the bright colors, it gives the drawing a very 1940ish feel. I also like what you've done with the Savior's fist, that green glow around it really makes me feel like he is powering up to attack a villian so something. I think the mask is well designed and gives the wearer a distinct Zorro look. :D Finally, his logo is neat, I like the curved s over the yellow circle a lot. Overall this is a master work and I hope to see more of your art in the future. good work! :D

Silly line. Thanks a lot for the praise, BL. If it's more you wish to see, please feel free to take a gander at the Silver Age Savior on display in its own thread. :D
