How is this for great 24 DVD news? From http://www.darkhorizons.com/news-n.htm:

24 (DVD): Details of the Season Two disc set are up at The R2 Project. Amongst the extras are a 96-minute documentary, a featurette, episode commentaries featuring practically all the cast, and 45 deleted scenes which you have the option of 'branching' back into the episodes.

Expect the Region 1 DVD to share the same features. The set will be seven discs.

Sweet ass.

Totally agree, man! It's mind that the last set was bare bones. It was a rush job to make some money, but it still came out great. But this new set, which looks to have alot of special features, has me incredibly excited! The deleted scenes and commentary would be enough to have me, but a full lenght documentary and featuettes? Man, I can't wait for Sept. 2nd to get here!

I'm a bit of a 24 fan and never really participated in the talkbacks. I should've, too. Great series. I was at Video Business and it looks like they changed the release date and adds a bit of new info. Here's what I saw:

"Due out on 09/23 (to coincide with the debut of the third season), this set will be priced at $69.98. Unlike the first season DVD release, this will include several bonus features -- created by our friends over at Sparkhill. According to VB, "the box set includes two "Making of an Episode" features, 44 deleted scenes, commentary on selected segments and alternate endings."

Looks like they pushed the release date back from the 2nd to the 23rd.

'24' Set for Second Round on DVD
By Brian Ford Sullivan

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will once again give viewers the chance to catch up on one of the longest days in Jack Bauer's life. The studio announced over the weekend it is set to release "24: The Complete Second Season" on DVD on September 23, just in time for its third season debut the following month.

And unlike its first season release, the seven-disc set will feature a large assortment of extras. Among them are 44 deleted scenes, episode commentaries from the cast and crew, two "making of" featurettes and alternate endings. The producers credit a six-month lead time to create the set as a reason for the plentiful extras. The previous season was rushed together in order to hit store shelves in time for its second season bow.

The set will again feature all 24 episodes in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 2.0 Surround with an MSRP of $69.98.

Can't wait for this release!

This sounds like a great set! As a big 24 fan, and a huge fan of the last season, I can't wait to purchase this seven disc set! We get a host of amazing extras, a great price, and a great series. I can't see how anyone can refuse this set!

www.thedigitalbits.com revealed a bit more about the DVD. Copy & pasted below:

They've also announced 24: Season Two for release on 9/27 (SRP $69.98). The 7-disc set will include anamorphic widescreen video, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, forty-four deleted scenes and alternate ending with optional commentary (no kidding), three featurettes (On the Button: The Destruction of CTU, The Making of an Episode: Production and The Making of an Episode: Post-Production), two multi-angle scenes studies and audio commentary on six episodes (one per disc). Additionally, all of the deleted scenes and alternate endings will be optionally viewable during the episodes they're taken from via seamless branching.

Here's what the DVD cover art for the foreign edition of 24: Season Two will look like. Personally, I prefer the sleek, dark cover art of the domestic release.

Same here, Wolverine. The cover art for the foreign edition, while nice looking, just seems slapped together. I like the sleek cover art for the domestic release, and it's focus on Sutherland. The domestic DVD cover art is actually the same as the poster art that appeared in many of the magazines before the show premiered, and I thought it looked great.

DavisDVD (www.davisdvd.com) is reporting that 20th Century Fox has moved up the release date for 24: Season 2 . The seven-disc set is now due two weeks earlier on September 9th.

I only saw a few episodes of 24, (stopped when I realised I was watching episode 4 and not 1), so is season 1 worth getting? Do you think watching the episodes back to back will ruin the experience, or should I wait for a re-run on TV? Also, other than covers, is there a difference between R2 and R1 releases?

Cheers

Season 1 has no extras, but is worth the buy, just for the show.

I know nothing about the R2, R1 release differences.

Season 1 has no extras, but is worth the buy, just for the show.It is worth the buy, there are a few extras except they are all on the last disc of the set. There is an alternate ending with optional commentary, an intro from Sutherland (which should have been on disc 1) and I believe a few other things. Nothing to get excited about, but the show sure is!

Let me get this straight, The R2 release got 7 discs, and we get 6?

So, do we not get the Destruction of CTU featurette?
I know we're missing something, I'm not sure what.

And damn all of those in R2 who already got it.

Based on the following image from TV Shows on DVD, I think it's safe to say it'll be seven discs:

http://tvshowsondvd.com/graphics/news/24_S2.jpg

Plus, The Digital Bits, Davis DVD, DVD File and TV Shows on DVD all bill the release as seven discs. I also checked a few online retailers to make sure (I'm a huge fan of the show - I gotta make sure I'm getting the best possible release). We're getting the same set as the UK one, from my understanding. If not the same, still seven discs.

I was about to preorder it from Amazon, and they list it as 6 discs.
But, I went to The Great Satan Site- Wal-Mart.com, and they list it as 7 discs, and actually have a disc by disc breakdown:

Disc One: Additional Release Material: Audio Commentary (One Episode)
8 Branched Deleted Scenes
Disc Two: Additional Release Material: Audio Commentary (One Episode)
3 Branched Deleted Scenes
Disc Three: Additional Release Material: Audio Commentary (One Episode)
11 Branched Deleted Scenes
Disc Four: Additional Release Material: Audio Commentary (One Episode)
10 Branched Deleted Scenes
Disc Five: Additional Release Material: Audio Commentary (One Episode)
6 Branched Deleted Scenes
Disc Six: Additional Release Material: Audio Commentary (One Episode)
6 Branched Deleted Scenes
Disc Seven: Additional Release Material: Featurettes - 1. "On the Button": The Destruction of CTU
2. Making of an Episode: Production
3. Making of an Episode: Post-Production Multi-Angle Studies: Scene 1, 2
44 Deleted Scenes (With Optional Commentary)

I think Wal-Mart is about to make Amazon, their biatch.

Anyway, It costs a dollar less, and I think the shipping is cheaper as well.

Over on the Coming Soon! boards, there's a review of the UK 24: Season 2 release, and it has a couple images from the deleted scenes, including an alternate ending. It's a rather interesting, and different, take on the finale if you want to check it out:

http://www.comingsoon.net/forums/showthread.php?threadidea=16687

I might sign up at these boards, since 24 seems to be popular there.

Holy Crap!

That would have been a great ending.

That would have topped season 1, in terms of shock value.

Yeah, sure beats "the fruit roll-up of death" ending that will probably undone.

That ending does leave a big question mark - how did she escape custody, unless...that was one of the deleted scenes on the disc? Man - I can't wait to own this!

As a big fan of 24, I'm counting down the days to this set! It's going to be such a great collection for the fans of the series! I love what Fox is doing with the series, by giving it a quick release to tide us over until the next season.

So...was it this Sunday?
Or is it on the DVD release date?

I hope to God it's on the release date.
I will skip class, and drive to Midland to get it.
I'd skip class and go to Dallas to get it.
