I recieved the "Whole Ton Catalog" today, and it included a section on a distributor called Shokus video. There is a particular volume I'd love to see: "Cartoon Collection Volume 3: Coal Black and the Sebben Dwarfs", that includes some rare stuff. I assume this is a PD distributor, but can anyone here verify that this video is worth buying? Are the prints good? Any redrawns or tracking problems?

I purchased that vol.3 tape several years ago, and boy was I dispointed...Regarding "Coal Black", it's a very bad film print and that there are some scenes missing from the cartoon, to make matters worse, the film looks very dark and faded...The worst public domain print i've ever seen."Shokus Video is not a really good underground company if you're looking for public domain cartoons, I wouldn't recomend it to anyone.

Shokus Vol. 3 suffers from a major, major tracking problem during (of all things) "Coal Black And The Sebben Dwarfs". At a couple of points the cartoon all but stops for a second... Why they never corrected it is way beyond me. Their other videos are generally pretty good to very good. Buuuuut some of the stuff is rare enough to rank as rare gold even if not made from a sparkling print...

The copy of Coal Black that I have on my site came from that tape. It looked fine to me!

I recently purchased a copy of this video from someone on ebay at Coal Black looked fine to me too. At least it was a lot better than the copy I already had.

Actually when I bought this, I had no idea Coal Black was even going to be on it. I thought it was just public domain Bugs and Daffy toons, but it had Coal Black, plus Confusions of a Nutzy Spy and Kristopher Kolumbus Jr. and a couple of Bosko toons. Surprise! Surprise!

Pussykins Cat Food tastes real good,
Satisfies cats like a cat food should,
Hardens their muscles, softens their fur,
Pusssykins Cat Food makes cats purr!

Are you getting more cat food lately, but enjoying it less?

I have had no real problems with my copy. As far as I can tell, it included the entire cartoon. The opening title for "Billboard Frolics" was missing, but like I really bought the tape for that!
