As most of you probably know, SJJ, SilverKnight, Salvor and I all do an online comic (http://wf.toonzone.net/DKA) at the World's Finest. Salvor, who normally does the covers, is going to be gone over the summer and we are left with out a cover artist! I got a lot of emails from people wanting to join the DKA team, when we first started, and I've been wanting to do a cover contest ever since then. Now is the obvious time to do it.

So, I was wondering, how many of you would be interested in participating? And, since I haven’t been able to give it much thought, any suggestions on how I should go about it? I should let you know, that I want to host it here at the Drawing Board... :)

Always showing us love over here, man... Thats why youre the boss on this! :D

hmmm... An interesting idea. There are a couple ways to go about it.

One is doing a similar thing like the Opens... Or perhaps take submissions and go from there to have people vote?

I, for one, wouldnt mind throwing my hat into the ring :p

That is seriously a spectacular idea, Flash. Great way to allow some of the fans of DKA the chance to help out with the actual comic, not to mention keep us all entertained and busy and give us all something fun to do! I'll definitely be glad to participate in it.

I think a vote would be the best way. Have a deadline for the submissions (stick to it too! :D ) and then post a thread in the DCU board asking them to vote. Those in the contest could be banned from voting, just to make it cooler.

Any chance of some ideas as to what you want on the covers i.e like a "Nightwing vs Batbeast" (thats what I call it).

Also, this is the coolest idea to come by the DB in months.

Quick question, do we colour it?

Quick question, do we colour it?

You will probably need to color it. Salvor has colored all of his, thus far. I will release more of the details soon! I was just seeing how much interest I would have... and judging from the fast feedback, looks like it will be a lot!

*GASP* This is my big break! My chance to be discovered! ;)

Just kidding as futile as it will be I'm in. If I were you I would put up a thread, have anybody that wanted to enter a drawing, then the rest of the DKA team (Flash, SilverKnight, SJJ) could decide which one they all liked the best and that would be the winner!

BTW, could we just draw anything we wanted on it or would there be drawing directions?

Actually, I wanted to PM you guys for awhile now to see if I could draw a backstory like Salvor did (in issue #2, right?), but the reason I haven't is because I don't have an idea yet. I really haven't tried drawing a comic book yet, and I want to see what I can do. This is a cool idea!

Yeah Flash, are you going to give us a topic to draw from?

Yeah there will be a theme.

LOL, I forgot about this! I don't know whether this was going to be the July comp or not... *smacks head against Batarang*

Not sure how we'll run this, we're still deliberating... Glad you are all so interested! Rocking!

We will post more about this soon, guys! So hold on with your rough drawings and ideas for a little while. SJJ tells me he's getting them thrown at him, which is awesome, but depending on a theme we decide for the cover, your current ideas and roughs will probably be useless by the time we get around to starting the contest! Hang in there we still need to plan it all out!

Alright, I'm in. :D

It'll give me a chance to come up with something original, instead of mere re-creations. :)

Do you want the cover to have the BTAS style?
Or something similar.

Or just any style at all?

*Wags tail impatiently*

Is the topic ready yet?

Huh?

Is it?

I'm no editor, but I may be able to answer some questions.

As far as the drawing directions for the cover is concerned, I'm assuming Flash will give you guys some guidelines, but they'll be vague to allow for artistic license. (And, to not spoil the rest of the story!) Yes, it'd probably be nice to have the cover drawn in an animated style, but as said before, artistic license is allowed. It doesn't have to look like an animated cel from the show; your own style and flair is allowed. Just try to keep it TNBA-ish. Yes, you should color it on your own, but if there is some legitimate reason that you can't; you can feel free to ask me. I very well may not be able to color it, seeing as how I'm going to be working on a huge issue, but I'll see what I can come up with.

Hopefully that clears up some things. (And, hopefully I'm not stepping on Flash's toes in the process. :D)

I posted a pic yesterday of Batman, Robin and Nightwing.

Is that style qualified as TNBA-ish?

Can this be July's idea, as I would like to use the monthly contests voting system on the covers.

James

Not sure. We did want to do the two seperately, but the turnout for the voting on JUNE has been pitiful to say the least. Running two comps seems pointless unless the trend changes.. so maybe, we'll see..

Be on the look out for instructions for the cover, ect. We've pretty much decided on what they're going to be. Nice to see all this interest for it!

Just to make sure, are you going to post the topic in this thread, or a new one?

The competition will be opened in a new thread and will be stuck to the top of the board.

Very cool! I for one am quite excited about this! Not only to participate in it, but to see all the amazing art that I know will be done for it. I have so many ideas already swimming in my head, and that's without knowing what the guidelines will be yet!

I'm finalising the final points with Flash who is the DKA editor (and my boss! :D) - just working out the best way to do this. This will take place in July. It's not one of the monthly competition. We are taking a break from those. This is a joint effort between World's Finest and The Drawing Board. The rules and processes may differ.

We'll post the details very soon!
