...as far as I know, we never really settled on anything for the July contest. Heck, I dunno if we're even thinking of doing a contest or an all-star jam (like the good ol' days) this time around. Does anyone have any ideas? Any theme ideas? Any preferences?

I stated in the June thread that I thought that we could use the theme of "Freedom" for July, and then do a general summer theme for August. That's my suggestion, anyway. What say you guys?

I've had one idea that's been stuck in my head for the longest time:

*Opens her head and let's the idea out*

It's called re-design a character. Basically, you can take whatever character you want (game, anime, show, comic, etc.) and give them a new look (or a new outfit, whatever you choose). Kinda like a makeover type of thing. People can really let their imaginations run wild.

Well, that's my idea. Anyone else want to contribute? :anime:

I don't have any ideas at the moment, or any real preferences. Metadreams's idea is cool, I think it would work best as a contest though.

I think we should go around a quote this time, you know, everyone draw what they depict from the quote. A great example I believe I heard Magneto say in X2 is

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend"

I think that could be a great theme, or if we could get a good character driven quote like it.

The redesign month has been going around for a while now, I am actually up for it this time around, would anyone else would care to comment?

Not a bad idea there Spidey! If we were able to get the right quote, that could be one heck of an interesting contest. I'd definitely be game for trying that. Otherwise the recreating of a character sounds pretty cool too....provided I could figure out what character I'd want to redesign!

I like all these ideas! Maybe we should do a JULY Comp for best idea for the JULY Comp... heh.

Good ideas so far - really are. The re-design a character idea would probably be the most accessible, however the Freedom (from the US POV maybe more that the Brits) is an obvious July theme and Spidey's is certainly the most original...

Whatever floats people's boats.

See how the feedback goes.. I believe there are some other ideas yet to be heard!!

These are all great ideas, really. Even mine. :D I still think the Freedom one works the best for July on many levels because:

-Canada Day
-Independence Day (US)
-Bastille Day (France)
(all these holidays are in July)
-freedom from school
-graduation from school
-leaving town, going on vacation
(etc, etc)

Of course, the subject doesn't have to incorporate national holidays to work. It can involve people breaking out of prison, out or partnerships, out of relationships, or it could just involve someone reading a book (freeing their mind).

I really like the other ideas:
-Redesign a character (better as an ASJ than a contest, in my opinion)
-"The Enemy is my friend" (great as a contest)

I think they can be saved for later months. Here's my idea:

-July: Freedom
-August: General Summer-based picture
-September: ???
-October: Halloween/Death/Frightening stuff/Horror/etc
-November: ???
-December: Christmas-themed, most likely.

The two other ideas thus far can easily be put into those other months (as I doubt people would go crazy with a "Back to School" or "US Thanksgiving/Rememberance Day/November Sweeps" concept.

Of course, we can always do a contest AND all-star jam each month. It doesn't have to be just either/or. Besides, it's the summer, so most of us should have more free time now, right? :)

Hell, we can all do portraits or caricachures (sp!?) of fellow TZ members if you want. I plan on doing so myself anyway, but it could be a fun ASJ. Everyone's name is thrown into a hat, and we randomly pick who we'll draw. Just a fun idea.

I like the idea to redesign a character the best. I could think of a couple different things to do for that one. :D

for December, I think Winter Fun would be more politically correct to include those that dont have Christmas. Then again... that wouldnt include those who dont have winter. argh!

people could choose to include Christmas, but it wouldnt assign the holiday to those with other beliefs.

September could be School Daze. LOL. I like the possabilities of this.

...as for November... it's a particular person's birthday that month *cough Delia97 cough*

LOL. Just a mention.... hehe.

...and I like the idea of a self portrait month if we dont have any ideas. and need a quickie filler for the month. People could draw themselves in an actual sense, or say a portrait if they were a character in a comic book or a show... maybe even like Trisaber's "online persona"

it was a cool idea.

ooh I definantly like the Freedom idea. Of course I live in the USA so it does make the most sense to me but as Tim has pointed out it has so many implications I don't think we would suffer from a lack of ideas.

Really though, I think the July contest should relate to me some how. That's right my birthday is in July (7) so how about all pictures have to relate to me somehow? :D

Okay maybe not...

This is how I see it:

July: Freedom

August: I agree with Tim here again, a general summer month.

September: Umm, maybe the redesign a character or quote month.

October: Haloween, horror, ect.

November: We could do the redesign a character or the quote idea.

December: How about it just has to relate to a winter holiday? That way it could be Christmas, Hannaka (sp?) or any of the other winter ideas.

Just the ramblings of my mind though.
