I know there was a topic of this before of how CN in 1995 showed Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, Twilight of the Cockroaches, and Lensman. What I want to know is how did CN get away with VHD and the editing with the other shows?
I think I am in the right thread.

First off, they showed them at very late hours of the night where no kids were watching (and any promoting they did was at night time probably, just like AS), and there were some edits for of the most gruesome parts of the movies. That's the only reason I can think of (before AS, the only things that were ever given adult ratings was Gundam Wing Uncut and some episodes of Space Ghost Coast To Coast).

Short answer is, CN didn't. IIRC, all those movies you mentioned aired on the Sci-Fi channel.

Nope, I remember watching VHD, Robot Carnival, and Twilight of the Cockroaches on CN, especially VHD, which I watched every time it came on. I don't think they ever showed Lensman though.
On the editing, I know the nudity was cut from VHD, but I can't remember what they did about the violence. I remember it being pretty bloody, though. I don't remember much about the other two (not to mention I don't own them uncut like I do with VHD).

Yeah, it's confirmed fact that CN tryed running them once. They didn't get back into anime until Toonami though really, and back into the adult stuff until AS.

What time did they show the movies like at 1 am? Did they show all the movies one after an another or how?
You don't think it is possible to show VHD and the other movies on CN nowdays right?

I know CN showed Vampire Hunter D and Fist fo the North Star, that's the way I was able to see them the first time, a buddy of mine tped them.
IIRC a nude scene in FotNS was left in. as was a sexy scene in VHD

So if they did that then, then why not show movies after AS now?

Too afraid, probably. People are more attentive to the media then they were about seven years ago, IMO.

Also, pretty mcuh every one with cable has CN now, but when they aried it, CN was still a new channel and was in the "call your provider for it" stages.

Yes, but putting Vampire Hunter D at 2:00 AM is better than watching 3 and 1/2 hours of CC's and then Captain Planet. That stuff could even help out ratings of CN and have even more adult sponcers. In another words, more fans, more cash. And if soccer moms cry about this, then it proves that their 8 yr old kid they're protecting has no curfew. Who in their right mind would stay up at 2:00 AM to watch anime movies *besides teens and adults*?

The thing is, is that that movies cost money to acquire (and they'd have to reacquire those films at this point), and CN wouldn't waste the money by putting new material in a dead time slot. They'd be more likely to start an adult analogue to the cartoon theater.
Was Robot Carnival syndicated? I remember it being on the Sci-Fi channel in 95 as well. Or maybe it was earlier. I forgot. The point is, were they airing at nearly the same time?

Oh, plenty of kids will stay up until 2 am for the chance to see blood and boobies. I know I did back in the day. The real question is, what parent in their right mind would let them?

If the kid's got a tv in his room, a lock on his door, and a pair of headphones, I don't think he'd have a problem. :p

CN's anime movie block only lasted a mere three weeks.
The version of Vampire Hunter D that they aired was the same edit that TBS used to air. A large chunk of the violence was edited out.
Sci Fi Channel's version was nearly unedited compared to it.
I've never seen the TBS edit, but some old Usenet postings seem to indicate that it was hacked to death.

There no way CN would air fist of the north star. That shows is to dark and gore for their AS block.

(Joke) Never say never, people said said CB would never come to CN till AS showed up so what if the editing guidelines might be different in the future. (Joking)
No in truth I really doubt Fist of the north star will show ever on CN anyways I think showtime beyond has it.

Which again begs the question: what parent in their right mind would allow their children all these things?
Depending on the age of the child, of course. Depending on a parent's philosophy of child-rearing, a child of fifteen it's probably okay for; a child of eight, definitely not.

No offence, but I know what I saw. it was VHD and Fist of the North Star. it might have had some editing done to it, but it DID air. like at midnight or somehting but still. Also, this was before CN was available to EVERYONE with a friend of my brother's taped it for me and I saw it.

I find that too unbelieve abile. VHD could have ben edited but fist of the north star is just too bloody and dark to be edited. Unlike vash or kenshin, kensro don`t let the bad guys off so easly. And if you saw F.O.T.N., you know when he killes them, it not a pretty sight.

Uh... no... there's talking in some segments, particularly a lot in the giant robot battle parody. Here's a partial excerpt from this website:
http://www.jurai.net/~jjpatt/RC/RCLD.html ('http://www.jurai.net/~jjpatt/RC/RCLD.html')
"A futuristic FANTASIA" is how ROBOT CARNIVAL was described when it was recently released in Japan. The producer, A.P.P.P. Co. Ltd., invited nine of Japan's leading animation artists to create a segment for it. The rules were that each segment was to show robots in some manner, and each should tell it's story primarily through visual action. The result is a 91 minute feature which combines the best aspects of a theatrical movie and an animation festival compilation. There is drama, comedy, lyricism, fast-paced action and dreamy mood pieces presented with beautiful art and haunting music. Showcasing the work of nine world-class animators, ROBOT CARNIVAL is an "art-lovers dream come true." Noted Animation Producer KAZUFUMI NOMURA has gathered an impressive group of artists, each with their own unique style and filmic vision, to create a collection of mini-masterpieces. The result is a broad based retrospective of state-of-the-art animation. This is traditional, full animation complimented by a sophisticated stereo score by JOE HISAISHI, ISAKU FUJITA and MASAHISA TAKEICHI."
