Certainly lived down to my expectations, what with the recent emphasis on bratty, disrespectful children in toons. It's bad enough that Imhotep has lost his romantic edge and history (his interest in reuniting with his lost love, Ankhsenamen) and is now just another meglomaniac intent on ruling the world. To this must be added a rather boring minor henchman (so boring and blandly rendered that I don't recall his name) and the annoying behavior of Alex. This kid has no qualms with destroying acheological sites or tampering with relics, yet he appears destined to be the focus of this show. Blah.

I will admit that I have been a fan of Imhotep since his portrayal in the original Karloff film (even drew Karloff's version). I also enjoyed the first Mummy movie simply for the fun and action of it all. Haven't seen Mummy II. I sure hope the kid isn't as obnoxious as I found him in the toon. There was definitely potential for a good animated show, but I had a feeling that it would follow the sorry route began by the Jackie Chan show, and so it did. Lord knows, if GTS had been made within the past two years, it would probably be dominated by some loud mouthed, ill-mannered brat, too--probably in place of Randy Hernandez.

I just knew that show would go downhill. I could sense it somehow, making me not care if I missed the premiere. Looks like I was right. And now that I hear a small review I'm not very suprised at the changes that were made between movie and toon. Imhotep's love taken out, kid being bratty, it just seems like those are the things they'd take out to make kids like it more or something.

I didn't like the cartoon. There was more emphasis on Alex, than his father. I could've seen that coming. I definetly won't be tuning in next week. Double Blah!

yeah, it was pretty bad! It wasn't very original either, as far as the story goes. I don't see it lasting a long time or becoming a classic thats for sure!! It was , IMO, a stupid cartoon trying to make money off of the movies popularity.:)

it seems like a lot of cartoon nowadays always include kids as a part of the show, but then with Jade Chan from JCA, i really don't mind as much.

It stunk. But i figured it would, so no harm done in me giving it a try.

I'm dissapointe din the route that animated shows or adapations are heading now. The little kids HAVE to be in there, or cute animal sidekicks. I guess we sorta saw this coming with Batman: TNBA. Why do execs think that kids will watch cartoons if only kids are in them? Grrr....

I think it would have been better if it took place between the 1rst and 2nd movies, that way there would be no Alex and it could fill in that 10 year time gap. JMO:)

That's a good point. Although we'd still have the kid in there somewhere's I think. I was actually looking forward to this series a little bit. For some reason, I think it won't have staying power.

The characterization was good, for the most part..

Rick: Heroic, skilled, witty. I didn't think the suspenders would look as good as the gun-vest, but it looks nice. But, c'mon! Just give him a pistol! His entire world revolved around guns in the two movies!
Evy: Smart woman, with a kind "know it all" personality. Obsessed with her job. just like her movie character...protective of her son..yep.
Johnathan: Loved his character in both movies. He was more than a goofy sidekick, he was a half-hero. And a bad gambler. His movie personality actually filtered into the show PERFECTLY. To bad his character design looks so..bad.
Aerith: Eh'. His VA sounded like a bad reader. And he was simply "there at the right time". Truelly, a ruined character.

To bad, the best-done characters, have such a SMALL PART! GRRR!!

Alex: In Mummy Returns, I actually liked his character. He was simply a neat little kid, that simply helped the plot-go-right. And he didn't distract Rick from being the hero at all(I loved Rick & Imhotep's final battle!) Now...he's "the hero"..obviously has a fetish for putting stuff of his wrist! He wasn't "terrible"...but I wish Rick was the pure focus.
Imhotep: Hmm..in both movies..he was perfect. a beautiful character..his focus was true love..until he realized it wasn't true. Anyway...I simply wish that in the show, when he was resurrected, he would have had more of a.."My love is gone, I have no purpose to exist...but if I must..then all will perish". I like that schtick a looot better. Now, he's a meglomatic villian..like ALL of todays villians. *sigh*
Collin Weasle: Hmm..he's a generic Goofy VILLIAN sidekick....his purpose is done..Resurrect Benji from the first mummy movie! He ruled!!

Anyway....I'll be watching it..in hopes that it gets better. Also, I hope a line of toys are made for this show. The toys for both movie were REALLY BAD. The Mummy cartoon toys are probably the last chance of decent Mummy toys. grrr...

But, the show crossed over fairly well from the movies..but with Alex as focus, & Imhotep as "just another villian"...I'm still unsure of its success...

The kid in MUMMY RETURNS was actually useful, I'll admit. He wasn't the typical kid hostage who sat around and waited for his/her saviour to come. Although he did have that sorta annoying HOME ALONE feel to him. He's really off character in this series.

The concept didn't interest me, so I didn't try it. And the fact that it'll be undoubtedly tame brings it down lower. Tame escapades through caves = boring programming.
