Is it just me, or does "The Hungry Goat"'s ending look a little... fixed-up? Oh well, it was still great seeing that in what probably IS its original form, as well as "Tops in the Big Top". :andy:

This was a REALLY great show. I liked the special opening to "Tops in the Big Top". You don't see very many Famous cartoons where the credits appear after the title card (they usually appear before).

My TVcard decided to cease all timed recordings for the night, I would love a copy of tonight's show, but have almost nothing to trade for it, would any of you kind folk provide me with a copy, if I provide you with the cost of a VHS tape and shipping charges?

T'was fixed up digitally -- I thought Bozo might use the ship's anchor title card before the Paramount logo at the end, but given the cycles he needed to recreate on the goat's laugh to get to the final title music, just getting that part done was work enough by itself.

It may not have been perfect, but combined with seeing the original opening for "Tops in the Big Top" for the first time, this was one of the more 'special' episodes of The Popeye Show so far. Too bad there are only three left to go.

(And just as an aside; I got into the house from vacation with five minutes to spare before the cartoons came on, though the VCR was also set -- too bad the cable company's signal for CN and the other upper channels on my system apparently went straight into the dumpster while I was away from home).

Though the goat's laughing animation did look a bit repetitive, I was sure it had to be the full original ending. It just looked like the animators had the end credits appear on the movie screen before the frame closed in on it. I'll assume that's how they did do it back in the '40s as well as the hard work by Bozo.

This and the one with Happy Birthdaze in it are the best of a great show. Looking forward to Moving Aweigh (that's the 3rd Shorty one, I believe) next time!

I loved the ending to "The Hungry Goat" and it was finally great to see the original ending for the first time.It seems that Paramount had some good endings to their cartoons.

If the ending was done using digital sleight of hand, then what I'm wondering now was how come the opening cards for "The Hungry Goat" looked so shockingly good? On the other Famous black and whites, the cards look a tad fuzzy and the A in "A Famous Studios Production" is normally cut off. The picture quality and sharpness of these titles (plus the fact that you could see ALL of the picture-they looked like they were windowboxed) made me think that an original print had been found (from WB's restoration program).

I sure hope so. I was travelling up the interstate an hour and a half from home when I remembered that I forgot to set the VCR. When I was leaving the house, I *knew* I was forgetting something.

I recorded it on DVD. If anyone still needs a copy, let me know and we can probably work something out, I'm always looking to add to my collection.

"Moving Aweigh" is another Popeye cartoon, that I'm looking foward to seeing a new restored verison of this cartoon.Just like "The Hungry Goat", this ending also seemed to be cut before the jump of the AAP titles.Beside, this is my favorite Popeye cartoon with "Shorty".

It was great! "The Hungry Goat" is one of my all-time favorite Popeyes, it was good to see it restored.

And Nelson, my toon brother, I can't wait for "Moving Aweigh" myself.....
