Most people have only heard Evanescence from the hit single "Bring Me to Life" featuring the guys from 12 stones. This song is also located on the Daredevil soundtrack.
Now back to business or rather my opinion. Amy Lee, the young angelic voice of E. is just amazing. Her voice can go to haunting to pure whispers. It's creepy yet, in a good way.The use of choirs in some of the tracks just hits the songs perfectly as well. I've been listening to every track and I have to say my faves are "Going Under", "Everybody's Fool", "Haunted", and "Tourniquet".
At first listen, I thought it was a little Linkin Parkish but, now that I've fully analyzed the cd in my head, I have to say that E. is on a who 'nother level. The rock and guitar riffs just match perfectly with Lee's voice and the lyrics are especially impressive.
It's not angry white boy music nor alternative. It's simply a work of art imo. But maybe I'm just bragging a little bit :p I have yet to take it out of my cd player though so, its all good.

Yeah, Evanescence RULES. It's very, very rare when I have a CD in which I like all the songs. In this case, I not only like all the songs, I love all the songs. It really surprised me that they could also pull off strictly instrumental songs with just as much grace and beauty as her heavy metal ones. That proves they have a great flexibility.
I also noticed a lot of religious references, which somehow enhanced my listening pleasure of it, because that means she wasn't simply on the "my life sucks/my boyfriend's gone" stuff that most singers and/or bands usually focus on.
My favs have to be "My Last Breath", "Tourniquet", "Haunted", "Imaginary" (for the longest time, I called this song 'Paper Flowers'), and "Hello". Great, GREAT CD. Definitely worth plunking down $25 bucks.

I absolutely love Evanescence. Every single one of their songs are gold. 'Cept this one song, I don't know what it's called but I know I don't like it :p. I've been listening to them since mid-last year when they were still an unknown Arkansas quartet and my opinion has not changed. Best group in YEARS.

I may have to get this album, just to see if I can agree with all the fuss! :p I was not overly impressed with 'Bring Me To Life' single which rated just above Linkin Park for riding the wagon marginly better. I suppose that in itself is good. Anything that shakes up the rock scene regardless of similarities is cool.
Perhaps it's the sign of age :( - I'm sure I'd have rushed out to buy this album 10 years ago - just not so keen of 'angst' in songs unless it's very much 'from the soul'.
Catchy, but vacuous is how I'd have described them if so many friends hadn't thumbed up this band. And this thread is pushing me closer to buying the album. I hate thinking my arrogance is stopping me from enjoying something which is a little deeper than it intially appears to be! :)

Love it love it love it. :D
Even if it's just another "Linkin Park" as some people say, the vocals more than make up for it. Damn, Amy Lee has a great voice.
EDIT: Crap! This is Nightflower. I'm at my boyfriend's house.

Yeah, I bought the c.d. awhile ago. It's cool, but I think I overpayed. In fact, they'll be in town next week for only 16 bucks. And I hate to say it, but I don't think I'll be going.
True, Amy Lee has an awesome voice. "Haunted" is cool, and "Tourniquet" and "My Last Breath" are the best songs on there, but for some reason, I was expecting more. I give it a 7 out of 10.

I always tend to focus on songs rather than artists. I'll listen to anything as long as I like the song, and I'll be lucky if I know what genre it's in, let alone the name of the singer or band who produced it. But let me tell you something...I remember Evanescence. They are the first group in history that I liked every single one of their songs. I bought Fallen as soon as I could, and now I regret having only bought one copy, as my sister and I constantly fight over it. Though there are some songs on there I like better than others (Going Under, Bring Me to Life, Everybody's Fool, and Haunted jump out at me, Tourniquet is so sad it's scary), they are all beautiful. Evanescence rocks.

Definitely worth plunking down $25 bucks.
You paid $25? :p
I agree with the masses and saying it is a great CD. all the tracks are well done and very enjoyable. The edgy, goth-like metal songs combined with the sereeness of a few other tracks offer variety. Amy Lee has a very angelic voice, compared to some other well known singer/song writers (yes she does both boys and girls :p).
However, many of the tracks do not compare in edginess to those from their first EP, Origin (which, due to their popularity, you cannot find very easily).
I was not overly impressed with 'Bring Me To Life' single which rated just above Linkin Park for riding the wagon marginly better.
Trust me, that song is probably the most popish (and worst ) on the entire album. [I]Tourniquet and My Immortal are way better.

Nightflower, using her proper account...
Heck, I still like "Bring me to life". I'm surprised I'm not sick of it yet. A lot of people are, since it apparently gets played five times an hour on the radio stations here. But that's okay- I don't listen to the radio. :D

Yes, from the songs I've heard (just a few mind you), I really like the "feel" of the music :D

I didn't like them, at all. Maybe it's my taste, but I downloaded some of the album, and really didn't like it.
I think they're all talented, though, I don't think they're on the level of a lot of other bands out now.
