Why Only 13 Episodes for The Sheild???

The show was a major hit and its quality virtually unmatched.... why so few episodes and why so long in between seasons?

First off it's the SHIELD not SHEILD, and secondly, while there are only 13 episodes a season, they are very well writen and produced, and making any more might decrease the series quality. And what do you mena so long between seasons? It's only been six months between the first and second (which is the average ((or at most a month)) length between seasons) and the second only ended about two months ago, so of course they won't be having new episodes for a while.

Also FX does not have the type of budget any major network has, even though its owned by fox. You can get 22 episodes of a comedy like Lucky cheaper than you can for a Hard Drama like the Shield. But I heard rumblings of a full 22 episode season for Season 3. So who knows?
