Thought I'd throw something up here that's new (besides "Survivor" contests and soft-porn manga-style comics obnoxiously abusing a family-oriented cartoon...). Watched this new "Enterprise" show a few nights ago, and my observations on it are as follows. As you may or may not know, this show follows the adventures of the "Enterprise" 150 years before Kirk took the helm (it takes place 150 years from now), as humans are first exploring deep space (and meeting Klingons/using transporters/etc. for the first time), commanded by Captain "Scott Bakula" Archer...
(SPOILERS)

OBSERVATIONS:
They did the best job they could in making some things look futuristic, yet not overtaking the Original Series' already-dated-looking "futuristic" style. Thus, the original versions of the communicators are seen (complete with original sound effects)...however, some aspects of the ship itself still look a bit too "new" relative to the other shows (like the tricorder Capt. Archer was holding).

Scott Bakula's character seemed rather, well, angry or stressed-out to me for most of this episode. Guess it might just be the pilot (vs. the way Capt. Archer will be portrayed in later episodes), or something else (Bakula's acting style? Never cared for "Quantum Leap", so I don't have much knowledge of his acting...), but I guess that's what I got the impression of his character as....

Guess they haven't invented the tractor beam yet, so we get the "retro"/predecessor version of said device (reminded me a bit of something one might find on the Batmobile...or what the tractor beam must be like on the Flintstones' version of the "Enterprise"...).

More abuse of the ol' space-time continuum via time-travel-manipulation attempts from the future, I see....though that bit between the lizard-like aliens and their futuristic Fearless Leader reminded me of "Earth: Final Conflict" (a show I've only flipped past, but always see some scene with the aliens in some purple/dome-like chamber room...).

LIKES:
Porthos, the beagle. So far, the only really likeable character (which puts it one-up on "Voyager" as is ;-)

Those lizard-like alien guys who could contort their bodies...

The design of the ship itself looks as if it'd make for a neat-looking model (though I'm sure it's already available at your local Toys-R-Us, glue not included :-)

DISLIKES:
How much the Vulcan science officer reminds me of (the disliked-by-me) Seven of Nine...

The opening theme song...neat images, but don't care for the song itself...

The inane scene where the Vulcan "7 of 9"-esque character and a male crew member are forced to decontaminate themselves via rubbing some sort of lotion-like substance on themselves in a shower-like chamber, partially undressing to do so....ack. And the closing shot of the Vulcan at the end of the scene... (Salem the Cat-style sobbing noises).

Overall, I guess it didn't leave a bad impression on me, but not an exciting impression on me either. Still doubt I'll become a regular viewer, though I'll be watching next week's episode at least (to give it another chance, I guess)...

I don't think ANYONE likes the theme song. 80s ballad rock, eeewwww.

Personally, I didn't think it was all bad, the characters just need a chance to warm up. Though I have to admit that I think the human science officer is darn cute.
