TV Guide mentioned in the latest issue that a CGI Curious George movie is in the works at Universal Studios, but can CGI really capture these books? Part of why I like the character comes from the drawings...

(Sniff) The magic will be gone...:(

...why do animation studios have to make all these flops from classic books?! It only cheapens the creation...and I don't need to see who will play George's old friend (Man in the Yellow Hat, right?)...

...any particular story they're adopting to the big screen?

At least it's not live action.

Looks like the CGI trend is increasing even more.

I wonder what the movie will be about?

I don't know of any particular story, just:
TV GUIDE SED:
Now the talented simian is starring in a MasterCard commercial ('Trading you checkbook for a storybook: Priceless') and a digitally animated feature film that is in the works for Universal Studios.
It's on the third page.

One big reason why I don't like books-turned-movies: They take the imagination away. With Curious George, sure, people know he's curious, but kids may make up other traits for him. Each child sees him differently. But if it's made into a movie--forget it. It's gone. You try to visualize the character, and the vision from the movie pops up.

Another reason why you won't see me buying a ticket to the Harry Potter movie...

Yeah! If it was live-ation, it would stink. However, CGI? I read the Hollywood Reporter and after Shrek's humongous take at the box office, Universal decided to go with CGI. I'd perfer tradional animation, but that's not going to happen. The only Universal animated productions we get are the "Land Before Time" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks" direct to videos, "The Mummy: The Animated Series" and the FOX Kids "Woody Woodpecker."

Excellent point. And frequently the books start to falter down in plot and all becaus new points has to be marketable...oh, and it LOOKS cheesy seeing it on the big screen too. Too many special effects and mediocre acting.
