I mean, he has metal bones. Why doesn't he just sink like a stone?

OOOO good question!

I myself think he would have a hard time because his metal would make him heavier.

Does anyone have any references that would dispute the concept of him sinking?

Maybe he's just a really strong swimmer lol.

That's highly unlikely, Adamantium may be the toughest alloy, but it might not be the heaviest. It depends entirely on who is writing the story.
In the 'X-Men: Evolution' two-parter ep. 'The Cauldron' we saw Logan fell into the sea (after Magneto thwarted his attempt to save Professor X) and he swam to the island with great ease.

Actually, that's what made me ask this question. He did seem to float okay first off, but IIRC he apparently didn't swim with great ease, because when he got to shore he seemed wiped out and Sabretooth made a crack about how hard it must have been.

I think he should walk on the bottom like Godzilla.

I think Wolverine's weakness could be drowning, since he'd just continually die over and over, unless someone fished him out of the water.

And in Ultimate X-Men, Sabertooth mentioned that if Wolvie's brain was suffocated by drowning, the best the healing factor could do was leave him a vegatable.
