Talk about out of the blue! What an odd, random thing to suddenly turn into a cartoon. I'm not a fan of CG but it's the writing that counts and Mainframe has a good history of shows with either silly premises or a toy line as their source material that still proved very well-written and cool.

Of course, the show doesn't interest me as much as the idea that maybe this means a re-release of the toy line or an entirely new one.

Incidentally, the copyright on "Monster in my pocket" is entirely why "Pocket Monsters" had to become "Pokemon" for the western world. I bet at least some of you never heard of it at all and were actually thinking "pokemon ripoff" from the title, weren't you?

Is this show a ripoff of Pokémon? What is this show? What's it about?

Well, it came before Pokemon, so...

Anyway, I don't remember much about the show...there's little monsters, based on various things like Frankenstein's Monster and Dracula. And they...do stuff. Yeah, that's about all I remember. I had a bunch of them when I was younger, but I have no idea where they are now...I remember it had a pretty good NES game too.

It's certainly an unexpected thing to revive, but Mainframe have proven themselves talented many a time before, so they'll probably do something good with it.

Really surprised to see it being given new life myself since this doesn't really seem like a top choice when it comes to franchises to revive. Never saw the older cartoon myself but there's a preview for it on one of my old Dragon Ball tapes and it always looked pretty boring to me. Well, I'll be keeping an eye out for the new series either way, since the toys and game were pretty cool.

All I really remember was the NES game. I don't remember if there was an explanation in there about why all the monsters shrunk to bite-size.

I remember the concept because of overplayed commericals, but not much else about them.

Monsters in my Pocket were cool!!!! I loved the Ninentendo game it was so awesome. Too see it brought back in CGI was so unexpected but such a big surprise and so awesome. If Mainframe is making it i know its going be cool. Maybe they could a new game too !!!!

I hope you are being sarcastic. Did you actually read this thread? I specifically joked about the people who will think from the title that it was a pokemon ripoff.

"Monster in my Pocket" were toys released in the early 90's or late 80's. They were a bit over an inch tall and made of bright, unpainted rubber. They were just all different mythological and literary monsters...medusa, dracula, frankenstein's monster, the hunchback, bigfoot, and tons of lesser known and awesome creatures from folklore such as Baba Yaga, the Nuckelavee, Bloody Bones, and even a Haniver (hanivers, presumably named after their "inventor", were actually dead stingrays carved, tied and dried to look like dead baby sea monsters. It was something bored sailors would do. They actually made a "Monster in my pocket" of what one would look like as a real, living sea monster!)

There were hundreds. Later they did the larger "super scary" series that had a little bit of color and some glew in the dark. After that, the U.K. (but not the U.S...) got some weirder, goofier series including dinosaurs, aliens and a series of pun-based insect figures (i.e. the bedbug is an actual bed, the stinkbug has a gas mask...those two are my favorites)

The show will probably be silly (I recall a comic for it when the toy line was new...the plot was that some monsters shrunk by a magical curse befriended a kid) but it may mean new toys which I'll want to see! I wonder if they'lle be full color this time?

:o I did read it, and I thought you were joking at first, but I was one who had no idea what they were, and since no one had explained it, I thought, maybe you weren't joking. :p sorry.

:p

Anyways yeah, they're way older than pokemon and that's exactly why it came to be called "pokemon", because if it kept the original title of pocket monsters in america it would've been sued by..ummm...I think Matchbox. It was either Matchbox or Mattel that made these toys.

Oh wait, yeah, dim memories are coming back. They were like MUSCLE men, only monsters instead of wrestling guys, right?

Pretty much, yeah.

This site has pictures of all of them as well as Muscle figures and other similar toys:

Yes, I hate KidMark, too.

What about Blinky Bill? Anyone heard of Blinky Bill?

Anyway, yeah... I heard of Monsters in my Pocket from that Dragonball video, too, because I once rented it. That's also where I heard of Blinky Bill.

They explained the plot in the ad... After one of them made them all shrink they went to some guys house (I forget who... I think some writer.) He was away, but apparently his ten-year-old daughter wasn't!

Yeah... I'm not interested in a remake... I'm not interested in the old one... But I do find it interesting why Poke`Mon had to be called Poke`Mon.
