Since this is a live action movie and not animated, I thought it should be on the board here. Anyways, this comes from comingsoon.net...

Here's the official release on the live-action announcement:

"The Transformers" -- the ever-morphing Hasbro toy line introduced in the mid-1980s that has gone on to spawn comic books, multiple television series and an animated feature -- are being prepped to change shape again, this time into stars of the big screen. Angry Films topper Don Murphy (whose next film is "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") and writer-producer Tom DeSanto ("X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United") have teamed to produce a feature-length, live-action movie based on the popular brand. The duo are expected to shop the project to studios shortly, and DeSanto said they have already received interest from a handful of directors hoping to get involved in the project. DeSanto is currently working on a story treatment for the project before he and Murphy hire a screenwriter to adapt it for the big screen.

Wow, I didn't think this would ever happen. But until a story is written, a director and actors hired and then filming actually begins, then I'll believe it for sure.

so long as it doesn't turn into something like having ashton kutcher playing optimus prime, i'll set aside some cash for a ticket as of today.

I'd rather see a new animated movie. This seems like the Scooby Doo approach: a live-action version of the original series.

Hmm, I dunno, I'm worried about this one. First, the robots are almost certain to be in CGI, which tends to be kind of hit-or-miss. Second, who knows whether they'll be basing it more on the original series, the comic books, the Beast Wars / Beast Machines revival, or what-- and we all know that, while some of the iterations of Transformers have been brilliant, others have been total crap. Third, I don't know how this can possibly live up to the monolithic icon of cheesy 80's pop culture that was the original, animated Transformers: The Movie. Well, I won't count this out immediately-- I'll certainly wait on more information before making a judgment call. But let's just say I have my doubts.

It will probably be generation one.

i also think that this new transformers movie is going to be mainly cgi with a few human actors. but, isn't cgi a form of animation? there for, this movie isn't going to be live action...no? :) i'd like to see it based on the old 80's series, but if not, beast wars/machines wouldn't be that bad. i loved that series but then i felt they ended it a little too abruptly. they couldn't have done a whole lot more with that wolf creature in beast machines that first housed megatron's essence. i mean, was the wolf creature separated from silverbolt resulting in silverbolt the character becoming just an eagle rather than a fusion between a wolf/eagle? also, did it cost him his love for the arachnid character?

Well I'm gonna wait till there's at least a plot or pictures of what the CG bots are gonna look like to pass judment, and I hope you do the same(You have no idea how much I hate it when people sham a movie that hasn't even begun production yet).

Anyways...This is a kick-booty time for us TF fans, this will make Transformers unstopable. Even if the movie does suck(not implying it will), it will put TFs on the map like nothing before. I have high hopes for this film, especial with the director and writer they have(X-Men 2 kicked ass and TLoEG looks like it will kick ass, so by logic, TF the Movie will super-kick ass as well.). It better be about G1 though. I already though up the cast for the Humans.
Chris O' Donnel - Spike
John Goodman - Sparkplug
Chistopher Loyid - Dr. Archevil
Will Smith - as the voice of Jazz
Tobey Maguire - as the voice of Bumblebee

I agree that we are passing judgement too early, but not on weather the movie will be good or bad, rather weather it will ever actually happen. All that's been stated is that some people want to make a movie, and are looking for a studio. That's all. It is a far cry from definite. I'll be willing to invest a little more when I hear that a studio is attached to the project.

Here's another thing to think about. When it comes time to cast the voice actors for our favorite robots, considering the budget they'll most likely have will be high, they could hire Peter Cullen(Optimus Prime) and Frank Welker(Megatron). Who better to voice the two most well known Transformers than the people that originally voiced them.

Man that would be sweet.

Well those who are hoping the movie will be based on G1, your wishes are coming true.

Transformers Seeking a New Movie Deal
"The basic thing is that if you've been going to the comic book festivals and seeing all that stuff, the '80s kind of came back last year in a huge way," Angry Films producer Don Murphy said. "We figured the technology had finally caught up to the point where we could actually show a 18-wheel truck turning into a giant robot." Although the Transformers toys have changed over the years--rom animal shapes to the current series of futuristic machines--Murphy said the movie would be based on the original lineup. Coming Soon! reports that the 1980s Hasbro toys, which the cartoon helped turn into a money-machine for the company, have recently been reissued by the original Japanese manufacturer, Takara. A recent comic book based on the Transformers and a DVD of the original cartoon series have also become best-sellers. Murphy and his producing partner, Tom DeSanto, are still in the early stages of the Transformers movie. The project has not yet settled at a studio and no potential release date has been set.

Sweetness :D
