According to Davis DVD (http://www.davisdvd.com/News/daily_news.htm) the Lorax & other Dr. Seuss cartoons will be returning on DVD. I haven't seen a Lorax since I was a child. :) I thought the Lorax was gone forever.

Ah, the joy of reading Dr. Seuss books as a young child. Now I feel like finding them all (they are scattered over the house). I loved "The Lorax." Those were great books. The video adaptations were usually pretty fun too.

Most of the Dr. Seuss cartoon adaptations were produced by the DePatie-Freleng studio, using their usual staff of animators, most of whom were Warner Bros. veterans. Some of the later ones were done at the successor studio, Marvel Productions.

It's great to see SOME D-F work getting onto DVD. Now where's BLUE RACER?

The Lorax, eh? I remember that a few years back there was some controversy regarding the book and the public schools in California.

I did a search and found this item on the web:
"The Lorax...was brought to trial by the Unified School District of Laytonville, Calif., in 1989 because it 'criminalizes the foresting industry.'”

Sheesh, just when you thought you heard it all.

Yes, the Lorax! Grinch is already done, but I would like to see Horton (not Clampett) the original

You're kidding. The Lorax on trial? My goodness, it's not like the book PROMOTES the destruction of forests. In fact, it provides a good moral for all the children at the end. Censorship is way too overboard these days, with the huge exception of cracks on Christianity. The media seems to have no trouble with those at all.

There is no other animated version of Horton Hatches the Egg, other than the Clampett one. However, Horton Hears a Who (based on the follow-up book) was turned into an animated special by Chuck Jones, and it's a bonus on the DVD of Jones' version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The loging industry wanted it banned. I found some info on it from IMDb.

Summary: Speak for the trees!

A Dr Seuss relatively unknown gem. A narrator (never identified) tells a story of how a person discovered a crop that could be used for anything. Soon all the trees where this crop grew were cut down and factories were built along with houses and highways while all the while a creature in the forest gives warning, saying he speaks for the trees. Unfortunately the warning goes unheeded and the wildlife that lives there make a fateful decision. A cautionary tale that was ahead of its time but seems very on point today. It warns us to be careful not to become to obsessed with our needs for consumer items and not to be suckered in by commercialism at expense of nature and the wonderful world around us. A Dr Seuss that should be shown on televison much more often than it is - some Logging companies in the west wanted it banned because of the ecological message - but now it is available to all. A must see and one to watch and discuss with your children. On a scale of one to ten...8
