View Full Version : No JSA on JL?
Though I don't know much about them besides the basics, I'm kind of disappointed to hear that the JSA won't appear on JL. We'll just have to settle on them making them their on characters. Hmmm...Maybe they could have Warhawk's (from the JLU) father as part of the made up team. I had hoped that maybe Warhawk was the son of Hawkgirl and Hawkman, but if they can't have Hawkman, they can always make up another character then.

I was hoping to see Dr. Mid-Nite and the rest of the JSA in animate dform. I think we'll still get them down the lines. I also think it won't be too long before we see The Titans...

They just have to do a JSA story at some point. It's just a given. What would a JL series be without at least one JSA team-up? Hopefully they'll be able to work around the problems at some point.
I'm also hoping for a Young Justice appearance, but I think that a JSA takes precedence over all other team-ups.

I hope that Hawkgirl gets killed

Why? The show hasn't started yet and you already hate the character?
I doubt they'll kill off any characters, good or bad. Hmmm....maybe a few bad, I guess. BTAS did kill off Clayface very believably up until TNBA brought him back.
BTAS also seemed to kill off Joker at the end of Laughing Fish, but I think that everyone knew that he would come back.
And Turpin and Bowman both died, but they weren't main characters. I really strongly doubt that any of the main characters will die.

Hmmm..."archetype" characters?
I wonder if that means they will be archetypes of various DC golden age heroes or something else? I wouldn't be surprised if Timm and company took a "Planetary" approach to these characters and presented them as a loosely based group of "pulp" heroes. A team with a Doc Savage type character. Or maybe characters inspired by Mandrake the Magician, Flash Gordon and any one of several femme fatales of the 40's. We might even see the "return" of the Grey Ghost. That character was reminiscant of The Shadow after all. And no one ever said that the Grey Ghost TV show seen in BTAS wasn't based off of the adventures of "real" person.
I would definitely rather see the JSA in the show (looks like Black Canary gets bumped again), but there is something to be said for using pulp characters, too. Doc Savage, the Phantom and company pre-date Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman anyway.
Besides, I'd love to see the show played out as a two-parter with the first part set in the 1930's or 40's. We could see a lot of that art deco, film noir look that made the original Batman series so cool.

Remember, this is the second team Timm is getting to create himself, he totally remade the Justice League successfully in "Batman Beyond" and it turned out great, he loves to make these "similar" heroes. This team he's creating might even be made of a DC hero or two that we already know, but we already know JSA or not these episodes are gonna rule. Itd be cool if some of the new characters popped up in the mainstream DCU too, the shows seem to influence the mainstream books sometimes too.

I know that we all wanted to see the Justice Society make an appearance, but let's face it--it would be too difficult. After all, which Justice Society would they use? There have been three so far:
1) The 1940's JSA
This is the version that first appeared in the 1940's and had a line-up including Golden Age versions of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman that were identical to their modern day counterparts. This team got so convoluted and tied into the "modern" Justice League that DC needed to expunge it from the records in 1985's Crisis on Infinite Earths. This would have been way too complicated to try and recreate.
2) The Post-Crisis JSA
This current DC Continuity version existed in the WWII era but still managed to survive unaged until the mid 1990's. Sure, we lost the older Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman; but we still had the Golden-Age versions of Flash and Green Lantern. This would only confuse viewers--not every one watching this show will have knowledge of 60 years worth of DC Continuity (hey, we still get slipped up by it). Explaining why one GL is a space cop and one has a magic ring and is unaffiliated with the Corps would take too long.
Besides, multiple versions only would dilute the uniqueness of our versions of Green Lantern and the Flash.
3) The current/modern JSA
Why bother? The Golden Age counterparts of Green Lantern and Flash are still there plus several newer, less established versions of the vintage characters. Why use the new Mr. Midnight when they could have used the older one?
The crew of this show knows what they're doing. After all, this team (or people from it) have created Harley Quinn, the Gray Ghost, and the JLU--plus fantastic revisions of Batman and Superman themselves. Besides, an older version of the Justice League--with or without the same characters represented already--would make the current one redundant.

Eh, I don't think that it would be so difficult. There are A LOT of pre-Crisis JSA members, and if necessary you could combine pre and post-Crisis members. I'd understand leaving out the original Flash and GL (now Sentinel) not to mention original Supes, Bats and WW (those last 3 would make things incredibly confusing). This is different continuity from the comics, so I don't see a problem with mixing and matching members of different versions of JSA, just try to avoid the most recent members who are pretty young.
You wouldn't even have to say that they were around since WWII, just say that they are an old team (maybe time travel?)
They could easily piece together a team with none of the confusing or repetitive characters. I don't think that it's that much of a problem of simplicity.
Anyways, I'll wait until I see the new version before I complain. Maybe they'll manage to keep a few of the old members. I don't see why they couldn't have a team with Mid-Nite, Sandman, Black Canary, Starman & more who wouldn't confuse the cartoon continuity.
