John Delaney Sketch of the Week #66 - Battle of the Runners Up!

Welcome to "John Delaney's Sketch of the Week"!

The Intro
Out of the kindness of his art, John Delaney is doing something big for the fans - an exclusive weekly sketch for the fans who frequent Toon Zone!

Every week, he will draw a new picture based on the results of the poll. That means that *we* fans choose what the image will be!

The Low Down:
The contest will begin every Monday, and end at 5pm Eastern the following Friday, giving fans a solid five days to choose. You can only vote ONCE! John will then draw the sketch over the weekend and we'll present at the beginning of the following week. The characters must be animation/comic characters drawn in the Animated style, and if you have any requests for future polls, send me an email with your ideas! Keep an eye out on the Comics Forum for all the latest action!

You can also post your thoughts on the poll in this thread.

The Rules:
We ask that all users encourage each other to abide by the rules.

Rule #1
Respect others on the boards. It's one thing to disagree with the opinions of others and discuss it. It's another to insult them by verbally bashing the choices of the poll. Do not insult any choices on the poll.

Rule #2
If rule 1 cannot be adhered to, you will be warned. If the situation happens again, banning will occur. There is no strike three.

Rule #3
The moderators reserve the right to suspend the poll for a week (or more) if they deem that the situation warrants.

Rule #4
Campaigning is allowed and encouraged, but in consideration of everyone with slower connections, all images should be thumbnailed. If an image program is not available to assist in that, then they must be linked to. Any post with images larger than 300 pixels in width, will have to be deleted.

Damn its a close race between Hiei and Fujicakes . I love YuYu , I read both the manga in Shonen Jump and watch the anime , but Fujiko is the best and will always be the best anime girl of all time period . She's smart , sassy, sexy (oh so sexy) , and "gifted" if you know what I mean . When will this sketch of whatever character come out and will it be available for download ? Some freakos who voted Zoidberg over Fujicakes are some crazy people .

I'm hoping the Adult Swim fan vote will be divided between Walter & Perry, Dr. Zoidberg, and Fujiko. Also, there seem to be a lot of anime character choices on the poll, so that might help divide the anime fan vote. Gray Ghost and Green Hornet might divide the Comic Book fan vote, and hardly anyone will vote for Snoopy & Woodstock, so if everyone else votes for Rocko, he might have a pretty good chance of winning this time. :D

Man, this week is a tough one for me to decide, as it the contenders in include the two gays kids from Home Movies (even one of those Adult Swim cards suggests that those two are gay), Snoopy and Woodstock (Woodstock is so kawaii), and Kenshin Hamura (I would like to see what Delaney will do to that idea).

So, it's Runner's-Up Week in the sketch polls. :) Well, I would've voted for Fuji-cakes because I still like her from Lupin the 3rd. I like the way she handles herself when Lupin gets too fresh with her. :p

Anyway, I cast my vote for the Green Hornet for only one reason: this has always been JD's #1 fave & he's been waiting a looooooong time for his choice to win. Also, I feel since he's done so much for us, let's do something for him! And that's help his big character finally win!!!!! :)

Drat it, I *knew* this would happen!

There's no fewer that *four* candidates in this poll that I'd really like to see sketched; Green Hornet because John deserves it, Snoopy and Woodstock because I love them, Gray Ghost because he was the subject of one of my favorite B:TAS eps, and Kenshin Hamura because that would be such a funny image.

I know it could've been even worse- Agent Elle would also be in the running if she hadn't been included in that MIB win a few weeks ago- but still...

I'm probably gonna need a couple days to decide.

At this early point I'm tempted to vote Zoidberg to try and build a defense against Fujiko. I never really liked her, she's just always seemed like a hollow charmless character to me. But I have to go with Ranma, who I hope will find another surge of support and take the poll this time. I just can't think of another anime character that I would choose over Ranma and given the choice, very few other animation characters either.

Obviously, more people wanted to see Fujicakes sketched than people wanted Green Hornet, so it really isn't fair to call losing to an anime character a "disgrace".

I also don't see how Anime characters are "dominating" the polls. If any one cares too tellme how they are, please tell me.

#57: Zorak - Space Ghost

Ugh...looking back, I voted for three of these people. Eh, not that bad. Anyway, out of the past ten, anime won 3 (2 of them being the last two polls). Adult Swim Comedy has two (and hopefully more in the future ;)). X-Men have 2. And MIB and Gargoyles both have one (and both of those people had been on the polls many times). So, it's only 2/10...not really domination...although at the same time it seems anime made up a lot of the runnerups here (as evidenced by this poll itself).

Wait a sec, I thought it was AS that was winning too much, that's what everyone was saying during the last runners-up poll.

We vote for what we know and like, Green Hornet has an uphill battle. I think it's tremendous that GH gets so much support he finishes second or third on (I think) every poll he's in and is on every runner-up poll.

I don't see how Rocko did so bad. He was in first place a good bit of the time while he was on the last poll, and he ended up with a solid third place victory.

how many more times will the hornet lose to some anime character? how many more times will anime characters continue to utterly dominate these polls? how long before someone finally puts a stop to this?

John agrees to throw in a KATO and STILL THE GREEN HORNET LOSES!?!? and by a wide margin at that!

screw that. my request now is that the Hornet never shows up in the poll again. im sick of him being disgraced by all of these losses.Then they should take all anime and Adult Swim characters so you can get your way.

I just got in and I am very happy to see Fujiko win. I haven't been this happy since Roger Smith and Vegeta won. So thank yous go out to the 50 plus people who voted for Fuji Cakes, my second nominee to win a poll (the first being Roger).

How could you forget ot mention Strongbad win (I mean in you're comparsion to how much each has been winning) espically since it's the first win for an internet cartoon character. Anyway, winning in only dependednt on how the people are feeling that week, and which of the characters in the choice is their favorite.

You know, if you think about it, the polls starting from the one Asuka won (which was #57, before Elisa, after Zorak) (except for the Strongbad victory) have all been ones where the X-chromisone factor could have had a bit (but not too much) of a factor for victory. All of them feature women in one way or another...even the Elle pairing with Jay and Kay (which actually is a bit more of a long-deserved victory for Delia) and Rouge alongside Gambit. Sure women have won the poll before (such as Zelda, Ed, the various DC heroines and villainesses, and Mary Jane), but it has been really en masse recently.

LOL Kay is a hunk and Jay and Elle were there for the heck of it LOL nawww... they all rule.

I think it just seems that only particular types of characters win because of each individual poll and how irresistable it is to vote for some characters.

I would have loved to see what he would have done with Kenshin Hamura, but I can't say that I object to Fujiko winning. :D It was surprising to see KH take 3rd place, since I wasn't expecting him to do so well.
