Hey, all! Just a couple pics I've recently been working on. Comments and critiques much appreciated, as always! :)

The first is an illustration for a rather odd little fan vignette I wrote for a friend. For those of you unfamiliar with the character, Sesshoumaru is a dog demon from feudal Japan (featured in the anime series Inu Yasha), so seeing him on a train is a bit. . . unusual! He's sitting in a private sleeping compartment on an eastern Amtrak train (yes, the rooms really are blue and purple). Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this one. (Many thanks to Outlander and Nightflower over at the workshops for their suggestions on perspective! :)) I'm not satisfied with the window, though, or rather, my attempt to make it obvious that the window has glass, and I'm extremely dissatisfied with my scanner - I'm afraid a lot of the subtle shading got lost. . . sigh. Ah, well, someday I'll get a real scanner! :D

I'm also putting up the pic from which comes my current avie. This one started as doodle, but I liked it so I kept working at it, then I played around with the color a bit! I really like how the sunset came out, although I'm afraid my scanner has cheated you guys again: everything got a bit washed out (except for a random blue streak which it put in - arrghh). But all that aside, I'm still pretty pleased with her.

Hey Ikkity-wig! :) As with all your pics, I love the softness you bring with each one. The flowing...everything (like windblown hair :D), and the soft colours. Those ARE all done with pencil crayons, right?

I dunno which one I like more - the shading in the top Amtrak pic is great, just as is that character's expression, but the mermaid one is beautiful and surreal. I like 'em both!

*GIVES YOU A PERSONAL TWO-THUMBS UP*

Ahhh... Its done! :)

The Sesshoumaru pic is excellent, Ikwig! I dont have any suggestions as to what to change because you have made the corrections already (btw, youre very welcome :)). You should trace this and try experimenting with watercolor to color it...

The mermaid pic is very appealing because of the colors used. Again, delicate colors and line work that bring a softness to all of your pics. You have also progressed since you began to posting stuff on here, also.

Keep it up! :)

Sesshomaru, taking the train? I guess his floaty cloud thingie broke down. :p

He looks great. Makes me wonder what he's thinking about.

And the mermaid! I LOVE the sunset in the background! How did you get it so bright? It looks blindingly realistic!

The colors on both of them are great, as always, Ikwig. So do you ever draw Inu Yasha, too?

Thank you all for the comments! :)

Yes, Tim, I've just been using a beginner's set of 20 colored pencils (plus a couple of skin-tone ones I bought), but maybe I should branch out a bit (as Outlander suggests) and give watercolors a try - just for fun! :) And thank you for saying that I've improved, Outlander - it's always nice to know that the practice is paying off! ;) And StarScream - yeah, poor Sessh - no floatie thingy or lesser demons to ride, but don't you think it was nice of me to at least give him a private sleeping compartment rather than putting him in coach? :D I haven't done an Inu Yasha pic in awhile, but maybe I will, just for fun! :)
