Wow, at least they get something good out of all this mess.

Well most of the animation from Canada comes from Teletoon (I heard) so I'm guessing Teletoon isn't a fan of anime then, or doesn't want it on Canada. I'm with Matsuo though: After all Iraq has had to deal with in the past years (even if it was partly their fault) they deserve to have at least one anime in their country.

Do you think the U.S. government will allow them to air Grave of the Fireflies? ;)

They don't have a free country yet. ;)

It's free, but it's not quite a country. Yes, this is a really weird thing. One has to wonder what they'll think of Quatre when they see Gundam Wing.

That won't be nearly as bad when they get all those internet sites of Quatre being... in relations with all the other Gundam pilots. I don't even want to really think of what they'll say about that (and yet part of me does want to think of that and see it. Damn, what's wrong with me?).

Oops, sorry, the paper I'm writing is leaking into my everyday activities. :p

I've seen a picture of an Iraqi girl with blond hair. But since it is also picture of collateral damage I won't post it. ;) I don't think It would be a good idea to show them Gundam Wing. I wouldn't want Hiro & the boys to give them any ideas. ;)

What do you think Iraq is? Iraq is more westernized than Iran and Saudi Arabia.

At least until the fundamentalists take over....
You know, I worry a bit more about Iraq getting Gasaraki than Gundam Wing...well it was about a war in the Middle East. (well, what I had seen of it, which was 3 eps)
Well, Afhghanistan airs Dragon Ball Z, but that hasn't helped out their country, now has it?
As for Iraq, it would be horrible and hilliarous at the same time if they revolted over Quatre.

Has DBZ ever helped anything?
Just a thought.

It's helped introduce a lot of people to anime, thus creating a larger anime market in America and leading a lot of shows to get brought across the Pacific that otherwise might not have.
Just a thought.

I heard that Oolong was edited out of the Indonesian version of Dragonball. I think Muslims have a problem with talking pigs for some reason.
I'm surprised they even allow Dragonball because of Bulma and ChiChi.
Didn't they even ban Pokémon because Misty wears too little clothes?

To avoid problems of cultural confusion here...
It's not that Oolong was edited out completely in Indonesia, but that certian scenes with him were edited out there. (Seriously, how can the show make any sense with out the pig in it? And please everyone, spare me the jokes I know you all want to say here. It wouldn't be funny or factual. It would just be stupid.)
It's not that Muslims have a problem with talking pigs, but more of his rather lecherous and rather uneditible sexual perverted attitude in the early episodes. (This is the guy who wished for the dragon to give him the perfect part of panties after all.)
I'll be honest... I'm surprised it got through here!

That wasn't so much Indonesia as much as it was Turkey. And a child's death was involved in that banning. (Apparently the kid though he was Butterfree and tried to fly. Not a joke. I'll dig up the news article for you if you want.)
And as far as Chi Chi and Bulma is concerned... They're perfectly accepted, being fictious and all. They're not Muslim women, and thus not required to follow the rules of the Quran to cover one's self in public. (Unless of course they journeyed to a holy land, such as certain countries in the Middle East. Of course if they ended up travelling to the Middle East, odds are it's because Cell or Maijin Buu showed up there and it really doesn't matter much longer anyways! Everyone is about to be "sent to another dimension." :p )
Truth is Muslims actually are quite tolerant and accepting of other religions and cultures. (After all my World Religion teacher was a Pakistani Muslim and the only thing she had a problem with was my constant tardiness to her 8 am class!) It's the far extremists that give the horrible stereotype that Muslims are a group of "sheltered mysogynists hellbent on abstinece". And almost always in the cases of those extremists, political avantages are a factor in thier motivations.
So in short, they are a reserved culture, but they are far from the tightly repressed culture we in the West seem to perceive them as.

Although they certainly have their moments, as all religious sects do. "Pikachu" = "Be a jew" ... ? ;)
Everyone gets mad. Hardcore fundamentalists are a minority. A vocal minority, but a minority.
