Cartoon Network's DRAGON BALL Z Conjures Top Afternoon Ratings
Online Users Flock to CartoonNetwork.com for TOONAMI Total Immersion Cartoon Event
Fans of action-adventure animation responded in record numbers last week as Cartoon Network presented never-before-seen episodes of DRAGON BALL Z, coupled with its latest "Total Immersion Cartoon" event, TOONAMI LOCKDOWN, which combined on-air interstitial programming with online interactive gaming.
DRAGON BALL Z (M-F, 6-7 p.m.) averaged triple-digit household rating increases (2.9, +107%) for the week, including a whopping 10.0 rating with boys 9-14 (+317%) for the week. The Sept. 20 6-6:30 p.m. telecast (3.1 HH rating) also tied the Sept. 14 DRAGON BALL Z telecast as the highest-rated Cartoon Network program to date in 2001. That same airing earned a 20th-place finish for the week among all ad-supported cable programs. In fact, DRAGON BALL Z and its prequel series, DRAGON BALL (M-F, 5-6 p.m.), charted nine of the top 50 programs for the week among ad-supported cable programs.

The Monday-Friday 5-7 p.m. event scored a 2.5 household rating and averaged 1.9 million homes, representing the highest weekly rating and delivery ever for the Toonami programming block. Boys 9-14 drew in the largest increases, with an 8.3 rating that charts as the highest rating for the demographic in the history of Toonami.

At CartoonNetwork.com, users posted a record 72,034,659 page views for the week, a 186 percent increase vs. last year, when the previous Total Immersion Cartoon event, Toonami: The Intruder, earned a little more than 25 million page views. More than 2 million unique visitors logged onto the site, a new record as well as an 83 percent increase over last year.
Cartoon Network, with a 1.8 prime time household rating, finished the week tied for third place (with ESPN and USA) among ad-supported cable networks. In total day, Cartoon Network finished the week in fourth place with a 1.2 household rating among ad-supported cable networks.
DRAGONBALL Z is the story of Goku, his son Gohan and friends who battle for the Earth against the deadly forces of the mighty Saiyans, who sweep across the universe leaving a path of destruction. Their best chance for survival rests in the power of the Namekian Dragon Balls, which provide them the power to summon the mighty dragon, who grants one wish - any wish within the dragon's power.
